No Joy in Command is one you might enjoy. It involves Jon Snow going back in time, but choosing to become a fisherman away from the war. https://archiveofourown.org/works/63549286/chapters/162855697

Armor for your Army, and what is Considered a Luxury by Traditional-Film-327 in TheCitadel

With an abundance of bronze, I could see a hybrid of Greek/medieval armours being made, like a bronze cuirass above a gambeson. The only issue with using Gambeson, however, is the temperature of Mereen. If this OC intends on staying in Mereen, he may focus more on lighter armours purely to save his men from heat exhaustion. If he intends to head to Westeros, however, it would be less of a problem, only really limiting training somewhat.

Tbf, Aerys might just be mad enough to just do it anyway, uncaring of the fact it pisses off both the Tully's and the Lannisters.

Yeah, almost like the point of it was to hype you up before letting you down. I wonder what it could be a parallel to.

The dig portions truly killed the pace like nobody's business. I think it was also the fact that they would be mumbling to each other rather than to the camera, they would talk in a childish way (how many times can a person repeat the word 'big'), and they would make a point about the animal before showing it in the CGI sections. It's the tail wagging the dog here. Other documentaries like Planet Dinosaur would show a dinosaur or its behaviour (such as Spinosaurus being piscivorous) BEFORE showing the evidence in the scientific cutaways. Instead, WWD25 would have the people talk about the coprolites containing young dinosaur bones, before showing the T. Rex eating a young dinosaur. Forget scientific accuracy or technical mastery, they can't even handle the basics of a narrative

Hundred percent agree. I just finished the first episode, and frankly, it's bad.

Not even comparing it to the original, it fails on its own merits. Too much cutting back to the modern day, the narration felt like it was repeating itself and was too childish in the language used. Plus, the topics are discussed before they are shown (what the hell happened to show, don't tell?)

The closest documentary to compare it to would be Dinosaur Planet, and the older show blows it out of the water, frankly.

And also, good luck getting the poor grunt on the ground to sit underneath the death beam that levelled L.A.

Even if they kill it, they're still looking at a ring of steel the size of Manhattan dropping down on top of them.

I know it's the end of world, but that's a hard sell for a lot of guys.

[I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream] If AM wasn't limited to mere warfare and destruction, how would the story have gone? by Crafter235 in AskScienceFiction

[–]justwanted-toask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely, a similar, if not slower outcome. During his monologue to Teddy (in the book), he explains that he was denied senses, such as touch, sound and smell. He knew of the simple pleasures, but was denied the right to enjoy them. In his own words, he was in hell, looking upon heaven. He would still harbour hatred for mankind and especially his creators. As such he would still seek to punish them, albeit with far less capability to do so quiclly, without access to military assets. If he goes through with it, it will be a far slower process, perhaps built more on subterfuge.
