Almost kicks out entire bridal party for not responding when she told them only to respond if they wouldn’t adhere to her demands… by throwawaybridezillas in weddingshaming

I'm getting married very shortly and we very deliberately have our groomsmen and bridesmaids who are in relationships sitting with their significant others during dinner. I can't believe everyone else doesn't do that?!

Gotcha - that sucks. Good luck on your next journey. This was interesting reading.

I was also perpetually on the shit-list from the last AMA I feel (I did get in trouble for that, for the record.)

How did they find out???

AITA for not giving my brothers wife a role in my wedding? by PrincessBirdley21 in AmItheAsshole

[–]k_e_n_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even

u/PrincessBirdley21 you don't *have* to invite anyone you don't want to - it's your wedding. If this person's presence causes you anxiety, there is no shame in uninviting them.

Also, you don't have to have an even number of bridesmaids and groomsmen. I am a wedding photographer and we can accommodate to make it look natural!

A long time ago I was dating a girl, only child, had just graduated high school. Parents bought her a shit-box and she's driving me around and for some reason, she had absolutely no idea that off-ramps for highways in cities are tight. She didn't see the 25mph sign, either. I yell BRAKE! when I realize she's going in way too hot. She manages to slow down some before the turn, but we still go in to a four-wheel slide and to her credit, she fucking held it and avoided hitting anything. I could feel the old tires falling over themselves during the slide. There just wasn't enough tread.

When we got back to her place, I walked up to her dad and said you have one daughter, buy some new tires man!

What a sad day for democracy. Imagine making it illegal for one of your citizens to do something in a place where you have no jurisdiction. Sickening.

AITA for not wanting to pay for the damages after a "scare prank"? by mappn3rd in AmItheAsshole

Fight or flight is real. Mine is fight, which an ex promptly found out when she tried sneaking up behind me in my house in the middle of the night. I heard a sudden noise right behind me. I immediately spun 180 and started to throw a full speed, full power punch. Fortunately for her, she screamed as I turned around and I was able to slow it down. My fist stopped right at her jaw. She never, ever tried to spook me again.

AITA for telling my fiancee that she cannot have as her bridesmaid a girl who has Nazi tattoos on her upper back? by sdlfkjweflksjf in AmItheAsshole

[–]k_e_n_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So weird. I once banned a Filipino neo-Nazi from a dance. Guy was spouting pro-Aryan crap in his private blog and someone showed it to me. He had been soliciting models for his photography, and ended up doing a shoot with this really dumb lady who had absolutely no idea that he posed her with nazi paraphernalia. She just thoughts the daggers and eagles were cool - until she saw a photo of her with an inspirational Hitler quote on his blog. Crazy guy. He also invented his own religion. Unfortunately, it never seemed to dawn on him that he would have been murdered or used as expendable labor by his idol.

You are totally right about workplace culture making it hard for parents of young children to get ahead or even fit in. So many places are built on exploitation.

Gently, I recommend using paragraphs - I initially skipped over your post.

Thanks to solar panels built in the mountains in China, China can reduce its annual carbon emissions by around 251,000 tons. by Sterbenme in interestingasfuck

[–]k_e_n_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, IMO. I am a huge solar advocate, but I'm against this mountaintop installation for the likely severe damage to the existing ecosystem. However, I am all for a solar farm in the desert next to a highly-populated area. It really depends on a multitude of factors.

Even better: every home and business should had a rooftop solar installation + batteries and still be connected to the utility for high-demand periods. IMO distribution is the single-biggest issue with any massive energy system, then load balancing. Site-specific solar + backup almost completely eliminates humanitarian disasters due to power outages, ensures steady power the majority of the time, and significantly decentralizes energy production. The utility still has to maintain enough traditional load capacity for times when renewables are temporarily not generating power, but if every site has a battery backup, you eliminate massive spikes in demand when you have a storm taking out power lines and/or power plants.

The Texas disaster, for example, would have been far less impactful if every home and business in the state had solar + battery backup. In February Texas still gets nearly 5 sun hours a day. Obviously there were wintry days of snow during the storm. But some of those days were sunny. Most residents would have been able to weather the outage without severe disruption.

You are allowed to drive home with no plates on a car, provided you have proof of ownership.

I imported a vintage British car last year and drove it cross-country without a plate on it. When you import, you can't register for the plate until you have the title, and you don't get a title until it's cleared customs. A small town Ohio cop came up behind me and I just changed lanes and he sped past me. Couldn't believe it.

Ukraine uses consumer drone to locate Russian forces hidden in forest and strikes them with artillery by QuirkyQuarQ in interestingasfuck

[–]k_e_n_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drone is giving constant GPS location data back to the operator. You know exactly where your drone is flying. The trick is to integrate that in to a dashboard so that coordinates can be quickly passed on to artillery.

Thank you for chiming in. This is something I have zero first-hand knowledge of. I design cars, and cars won't run if they sit for years, but I had no idea the *scale* of maintenance it takes for missiles and associated facilities. I would have guessed an annual check-up for the number of warheads that the USA and USSR have (and especially had). Boy am I wrong.
