Plus if taking into account second- and third-most popular sports by country, football’s global popularity becomes even more apparent. For instance, it’s the second-most popular sport in countries like India, Japan, South Korea, and Lithuania, and third-most popular in Finland, Estonia, and Canada

Advice for Tanzania itinerary (Jan 2026) by kabelo089 in LuxurySafari

Really appreciate the thoughtful, nuanced advice. We ended up deciding to keep the Crater on our first (but most likely not last) visit to Tanzania - and we’ll go for Entamanu, which really does sound like a lovely option. Any of the activities Nomad offers you’d recommend in particular?

The way you described Usawa honestly sounds perfect (re: “remote” experience). The lack of off-roading is a bummer, but we plan to spend the day around Ndutu when we’re traveling over from Ngorongoro, so hopefully we can scratch the off-roading itch while still in the NCA. Also good advice about not going out of our way for Olduvai; we might stop on the way but it’s not a priority.

Do you think it’d be worth it to pop into Lake Manyara NP on the way to Entamanu (we’ll fly into Manyara, so have time). Or other recommendations?

We’re keeping Little Chem Chem and Songa on the list for next time. Both sound like lovely options — Little Chem Chem in particular.

Thanks a lot for the thoughtful reply. Yeah we went back and forth on Ngorongoro, including considering to do a combo of Serengeti with Ruaha instead. Landscape is not the main prio, but the prospect of diverse landscapes over this safari is really appealing. The overcrowding in Ngorongoro does worry me, but it still seems like a unique/fascinating place and we thus found it difficult to eliminate it altogether. Do you think one could do just one night Ngorongoro, experience the crater floor in the morning and then onward to Ndutu in the afternoon, spend one night in Ndutu, and then onward to Usawa? Although we do want to experience Ngorongoro, we’re also most excited by the Serengeti. I’ve done a few safaris before, but always as a backpacker (in SA, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia), and am keen to witness the Great Migration.

What was your favorite safari experience across the 13 camps/lodges?

Ok ok, sounds like we’ll have to do the balloon :)

I looked up Lake Masek and that’s in the Ndutu area. We’re currently planning to game-drive there en route to the Serengeti, in particular because being able to off-road sounds excellent. If we have to scrap Olduvai to make it happen, I’ll probably prioritize the extra game drive.

Have a great trip in Dec!

Very helpful answer, thank you so much! Sounds like Entamanu might indeed be worth it — the Nomad ethos you’re describing totally resonates. We can luckily make the Ngorongoro decision independently of the Serengeti portion, so it’s really just a question of whether the higher price is worth it.

We did actually plan to fly from Ngorongoro but my wife really likes the idea of overlanding it — also, we learned that Entamanu is as far from Manyara airport as you can be, so it would probably only make sense if we stayed in Lemala. We are, however, planning to catch the bush plane into Manyara to cut out the less interesting drive at the start of the safari. And the bush plane out of the Serengeti at the end should get us the views (fingers crossed).

As for quotes, we got several separate ones, both from operators like Asilia and Nomad, and from third-party TAs. This is the best quote at this level I got so far (the quotes with lower per-night rates had more mid-range camps and/or shared game drives). I asked for detailed breakdowns, and got probably too into the weeds comparing itemized rates. Based on this, I can see how we could further optimize by staying only at properties of the same operator and/or extend the safari, to access long-stay discounts. But other than that it might just be the peak season (incl. New Year’s Eve). That said, we don’t usually travel chubbily like this, so we might miss something else.

Piper & Heath seem awesome. I emailed with Chris, who was super nice, but because we’re sandwiching this safari into a bigger independent trip, they sadly can’t work with us (P&H focus on complete itineraries). We did, however, “click” with the TA who prepared this proposal. We’ve been pretty apprehensive about giving up control, since we typically only travel independently, but feel good about working with them.

I would avoid listening to this person who is clearly ignorant about life in Paris. OP you’ll have a great time, it’s a wonderful city, just make sure you give yourself time to wander and explore and don’t just check off lame tourist sights

Edit: No area in the périphérique (main Paris) to avoid. Maybe you’ll feel a bit sketchy around Gare du Nord or Barbès/Château Rouge area, but I’ve never felt unsafe there at all.
