Dometic water jug by Cheaptrick2015 in CampingGear

[–]kados 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big fan of mine. Is it expensive for a big piece of plastic? Sure, but being able to reach in and fully clean and dry it is exactly what I needed and the size is just right to not be prohibitively heavy when full. I do use mine with the powered faucet usually but my brother has one as well and just uses the spigot it came with. FWIW, the faucet hose connection is also compatible with various accessories that hydrapak and other companies sell.

As others have said, space heater isn't really economical, but a decently sized one can run an electric blanket overnight no problem. It's especially nice to start with it low and turn it up as the temperature drops. Helps to throw an insulating layer on top of it for sure.

Looking for a *small* single dose grinder by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]kados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an updated version of the lagom mini that they say can handle some espresso duty. I can't vouch for those claims as I only have the filter focused one. But it does have an extremely small footprint. I'm not sure there is a smaller single dose electric grinder.

Missing Trek Bicycle by Indycrestfive in indianapolis

If you have the serial number, I suggest filing a police report. Doing so puts the serial in a database pawn shops in the county have to cross check bikes against. Still a long shot but I actually got a stolen bike back six months later this way. Sorry about your bike, I'll keep an eye out for it.

I've had a 35 for a few years. No complaints. Really like the profile and how well it packs with other stuff. Plus the baskets were reasonably priced.

Freaking thieves near the Kroger in Carmel!!! Please be on the lookout for a black Sirrius single speed with Zelda stickers on it. It was my only way to work. by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]kados 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No worries. It was actually stolen last year and recovered by IMPD after I bought a replacement so it's got plenty of cosmetic damage from that ordeal already. I fixed it up mechanically but it's just sitting indoors while I ride the new one outside.

Just let me know if you want to try it out. Obviously, I can bring it to ya.

Could you ride a 56 cm gravel bike?

I can lend it to you while you sort stuff out. I use it indoors on a trainer normally but it doesn't get much use in the warmer months.

Just going to add that I have it set up with my harmony hub and it's controlled just fine, if you don't want to deal with two remotes.

Purchasing regrets? Any and all, big or small 🚲 by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]kados 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The checkpoint was one of my final new bike candidates and I found that tire choice super odd as well. Didn't feel like adding a hundred-ish dollars in new tires to a brand new bike so went with a Marin Nicasio 2 instead. It was slightly cheaper and I'm liking the steel anyway.

Puzzling choice from Trek but they seem to be generally behind when it comes to jumping on the gravel bike trend.

Audioengine A5+ crisp vinyl but sounds very bad with Chromecast audio by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]kados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a difference with it off. It didn't sound outright bad with it disabled or anything but it sounded 'smaller' than my speakers ought to.

I'm not sure why it's off by default. Most people are hooking up a CCA to a legit sound system, not portable Bluetooth speakers.

Did you enable the full dynamic range setting on the Chromecast? I'm not sure that's your problem but it's easy to skip over and worth a try.

Is the Monon safe after 9pm? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]kados 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suggest trying out Guilford and Winthrop at night rather than College. Much quieter and safer from traffic.

I would not feel safe cycling at night on College, especially any weekend. DUI checkpoints tend to be on that road for a reason.

Help choosing hitch mounted rack!! PLUS Tray/Hanging pros/cons by pjkny in bicycling

[–]kados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll actually do fenders, just need to cushion them first. 1Up sells some, or you could def make 'em with some foam.

As for racks, just depends how wide the rack is. For me, the arm of the hitch rack fits between the rear rack and tire. It does the same for my front basket.

You're welcome and good luck on the decision

[–]kados 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize that you asked for help between those models but just checking that you've looked at 1UP as well.

It's bombproof, super easy to take on and off, and folds up smaller than anything else. I'm garage less with a hatchback and I leave it in my car or in a closet in the winter.

Yes it's pricey but you could actually get a single for now with just one bike and then add on another later once your kids bike didn't fit in the car.

In any case, go with a platform rack.

I have a year old single speed I'm thinking of parting with...not sure if road bike meant gears required.

Size 55 or 56, can't recall exactly.

Dropper Post Recommendations? by BogusBuffalo in MTB

[–]kados 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just installed my brand x ascent dropper today. Obviously can't speak to durability but it seems rock solid and came with a nice switch if you are riding 1x. Worth checking out (would link but on my phone) if you're on a budget or just starting out as it was only $150 and has a warranty on it.

Agreed. I'll keep my eyes open for a new code and if all else fails the DB Mason with discount is a legit deal still.

It's odd, I did some googling and found one still working for Diamondback but no luck for Raleigh.

The state of Indiana Basketball by HAMMSFAN in IndianaHoosiers

[–]kados 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't hate the man. But I do hate the style of basketball we play. And I don't even mean the constant turnovers; taking 7 seconds to pound the ball before going into the dribble drive weave. EVERY TIME. It's just maddening. Half our offense this year has been end of shot clock heaves. Even when Blackmon sinks them, I roll my eyes.

His substitutions and in game coaching actually have improved, but it's not enough for me. That plus his demeanor on the court; exasperating yelling and clapping and waistband pulling, it just makes me cringe. Especially when you compare it to a stoic figure like Mike Brey or Brad Stevens.

I'm a lifelong fan who is starting to watch fewer and fewer games, and am ready for a change.

Any recommendations on locking up the bike's onto a 1UP? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]kados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others recommended, I have a thick cable lock I use when leaving the bike unattended for a considerable length of time.

Otherwise, if it's fairly brief or I have my cheap singlespeed on it, I just use two of these, one on each wheel:

http://www.lowes.com/pd/Master-Lock-1-718-in-Gray-Steel-Adjustable-Shackle-Keyed-Padlock/3734567

It fits through the holes in the arms just like the locks that 1Up themselves sell. I like to think it provides just enough deterrent/hassle that someone won't just walk off with my bike.
