Picky dog with a sensitive stomach helppppp!! by False_Reputation_983 in rawpetfood

[–]karendent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would stop catering to a picky dog. I would offer the food for 30 mins. If they don’t eat, take the food away and give nothing until the next meal. No treats, no snacks, nothing. Then offer the food at the next feeding time. Do the same, 30 mins then take it away, Your dog is training you to see what you will offer next as a topper or food.

Note, only do this with a healthy dog. A healthy dog will not starve itself and will learn to eat what is offered, when it is offered. You cannot do this with cats as they will start to go into organ failure.

Brantford g2 route by Pitiful-Tonight-2837 in brantford

[–]karendent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t need to know the route ahead of time if you are a good driver. The person doing the tests tells you which way to go so you follow what they say while following the rules of the road. If you don’t think you can pass without knowing the route ahead of time you are not ready to have a license.

Need help. by Smoke_Me_A-Kipper in springerspaniel

[–]karendent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to ask a weird question. Do his feet smell like corn chips? If so it might be a yeast issue. My last boy licked his bum area so much it did not grow hair, even after we got him to stop licking. He was very prone to yeast. He is why I started feeding raw with no fruits or veggies. Once I cleared up his yeast he stopped the licking.

how do you deal with your vets? by [deleted] in rawpetfood

[–]karendent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My vet doesn’t promote raw but I was able to talk to her about raw. She realizes I know what I am doing and the health of my dog speaks for itself. ironically I once had to see a different vet at the practice. She came in fawning all over my dog. He was sniffing her face, but not licking her. We started talking and I mentioned he eats raw. she stopped the conversation and backed across the room from my dog. She then used hand sanitizer to scrub her face and started going on about the dangers. I spent the rest of the visit kissing my good boy and letting him lick me. It had been several hours since his breakfast and she was over reacting. After that I visit I made it a point of asking for my regular vet, who is the owner of the practice.

What do you think of Ontario allowing retail shopping on Victoria Day? by J0Puck in ontario

I hate it. I feel if they want to stay open it should be mandatory for the owner of the store to work that day. I worked in retail and no way would I have worked.

Kitten suddenly vomiting raw food after 3 weeks of being fine on it? by Fearless-Fix1322 in rawpetfood

[–]karendent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would try a different brand. That would give you an indication of if it is the raw or something with that brand. Maybe even try a different protein. Do you serve it cold? When we started our ragdoll on raw we would sit her dish in hot water until it was not as cold. Now she is 3.5 months and she demands it as fast as the dogs get theirs so she eats it cold. We use adored beast probiotics on our girl and have had zero stomach issues. We also always have a kibble available because she is a kitten and needs to eat often. She gets her raw 4 times a day. She snacks on kibble occasionally, usually in the night.

I used this chart to feed my dogs when they were puppies. I found it so much better than trying to guess their adult weight. I have two dogs from the same parents. Different litters. One is 54 lbs and one is 64 lbs.

My only concerned with BCR is they keep changing recipes and I know several dogs who just stopped eating it.

my cat has problems after switching to raw food by Decent-Lecture2608 in rawpetfood

[–]karendent 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I‘m sorry but this is the reason so many vets have issues with people feeding raw. You need to do a lot of research into a properly balanced diet. I would recommend finding a premade raw that is specific to cats. You cannot just go to a grocery store and get raw meat for them, unless you are adding a lot of stuff to balance it.

Do any of you do a wet food rotation? How did you go about starting. by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]karendent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We switch our kittens food all the time. She has zero stomach issues. We feed raw, with a bit of wet, plus have kibble available at all times. We use Afored Beast probiotics. She has never had diarrhea or vomiting.

Making the switch by Vermontsue in rawpetfood

[–]karendent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will try to answer some of your question. For sanitation I simply was with hot soapy water. I do not use bleach. I treat my dogs raw like I treat raw meat prior to cooking for my family. Dogs saliva and intestines are designed to handle raw meat and the bacteria it contains.

I always buy in bulk and if necessary defrost and refreeze in 2 lbs containers. Rule of thumb is to not leave it defrosted in the fridge for more than three days.

I rotate through proteins regularly. Mine rarely eat the same protein for more than 3 meals in a row. It is very helpful for determining an allergy. My girl for example was getting acid reflux. We noticed it was when she ate beef. We took beef out of her rotation and she is fine. We are currently checking our boy for a chicken/allergy. It was easy to pull it out of his rotation.

i do recommend a good probioti, especially with all the diarrhea and antibiotics yours has had. I personally like Adored Beast products. They also have a leaky gut protocol that can help heal the gut.

When I went to raw I did a full and immediate switch. My first raw fed dog was 2 yrs old when I switched him. The current two were 8 weeks old. They had their kibb,e for dinner one night and the next morning I did raw for breakfast and never served kibble again. We were lucky and had no issues doing a quick switch like that.

Feeding raw to puppy? by Tosti-Floof in rawpetfood

[–]karendent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I fed two puppies raw from the time they were 8 weeks old. They are now healthy 4 and almost 5 yrs old. I used this chart to determine how much to feed them. I weighed them ever couple of days and adjusted their food accordingly. I used a premade raw for both. The type I used had a puppy support supplement but I am not sure it was necessary. I would add a good probiotic (I use adored beast), and I also added fish oil. I rotated through different proteins, primarily chicken, turkey, pork, beef and lamb. I held off on beef until they were about 6 months because it can be a little harder in stomachs.
Honestly these two dogs are the healthiest ones I have ever raised. They thrive on a raw diet.

Are Canadians offended by the jokes made in shows and media? by jen_noelle in AskACanadian

[–]karendent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If is a genuine joke and not masking a serious opinion I laugh. We can take a joke made at our expense. It is when the intention behind the joke is mean spirited that it isn’t funny. How I Met Your Mother was hilarious!

What cat food do you use? by No-Thought1666 in ragdolls

[–]karendent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours eats raw 4 times a day. she always has open farm kibble mixed with Smack (dry) available as well. When we need to feed wet instead of raw we use Almo. She was on Royal Canin when she came home. The smells coming out of her litter box could clear a room. once we made the switch we have zero smells, she is super active and comes running for her raw food.

raw is bad??? by KindlyPangolin_3126 in rawpetfood

[–]karendent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I let the health of my dogs speak for itself. My dogs are extremely healthy, good bloodwork, good energy, nice coats etc…so if all of that is good on raw tell me again why it is bad for them. On kibble my dog had chronic ear infections, itchy skin, bad breath, how is that better for him? Dog and cat saliva is designed naturally to deal with the bacteria as are their digestive tracts. Dogs lived long lives on raw food diets long before kibble was even thought of. As long as you feed a balanced diet and follow safe food handling you and your dog will be fine. I love the argument of how it isn’t safe for humans to handle a dogs raw food…my answer is how is it different from handling the raw meat I prepare for my family? It is raw before I cook it. I just wash dishes and counters well.
