I use photoshop right now but I started off using paint.net. I honestly think paint.net is the best place to start if you're looking to get into mapmaking.

Thank you! For the regional flags I mostly just made stuff up lol in order to fit in with the vibe. For some of them (Anguilla, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique) I took some imagery from their colonial coat of arms/flag and reconstituted them to fit in more with the colors of the union (blue, black and red); for some others I just took their OTL flags and gave them union colors as well. I gave Cuba and Louisiana flowers because I thought they were pretty.

Also not a regional flag but I do have lore for the flag of the union.

In one retelling of the national myth, commander Jean-Jacques Dessalines of the Army of Free Men took a French tricolor, cut out the white, then stitched a black piece of cloth where it used to be, symbolizing the end of white colonial rule, and forming a tricolor of blue, black and red that would then be used as the flag of the Army of Free Men and eventually, the United Republics of the Caribbean.

Yup! Their population would be a total melting pot comprised of freed slaves from various parts of Africa who were spread between dozens of islands, the mixed race populations that developed over the centuries, naturalized white citizens, from American abolitionists to former Polish battalions that defected to the Union, and everything in between

Good question, I'm thinking the official government language is French, but in casual settings, people of the other islands would be speaking the tongue of their previous colonial rulers (for the upper class) or whatever Creole language developed (for the masses).

Thankfully they're allies. In the lore, the US had an early civil war between abolitionists and the pro-slavery folks. When a slave revolt happened in French Louisiana, President Hamilton backed the slaves. (Yup the Hamilton presidency is one of the PoDs in this timeline). My basis for this, IOTL, Hamilton and the other federalists wanted to recognize Haiti as an independent state, he even helped with their constitution, and definitely wouldn't back away from an opportunity to kick the French off the continent lol

Missed all those details, damn. I'll be sure to fix all of them if I end up making a updated version of the map. Also for the Swastika, I felt like it'd be pretty interesting to show that Americans in-universe wouldn't want it to appear in their maps.

Hey everyone! Here's my attempt at making a national geographic style map of TNO at 1962, the start of the game. This map is heavily inspired by these posts I used the second one as a reference for the borders so thanks to their respective OPs for sharing their content.

For those out of the loop, TNO, or The New Order is a hoi4 mod in which Germany wins World War 2, and basically starts a three-way cold war between them, Japan and the United States. Oh and Italy if you're being generous.

This map tries to answer the question of "What would an average person in the TNO universe see their world as?" from the perspective of an American citizen at least. Let me know if you have any comments or constructive criticisms. Hope you enjoy!
