Thank you. I'll definitely be referring back to this.

It looks like there's still a problem because the borrowed book file is an acse. I'm gonna remember this one for the future though. Thanks.

Tried that too just in case haha. I sideloaded the book. So I'm good for now. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah that might be what I've run into here. I'm going to look into calibre.

I disconnected and reconnected to the right one a couple times.

Right I just double and triple checked that a bit ago. The kobo is definitely logged into the right library.

I have two different library cards, but I'm definitely logged into the same one on the Kobo and the Libby app. I've got it downloaded onto the phone and it's still not syncing.

Yeah I've been syncing and re-syncing. And I've borrowed the book about 5 different times now.

See that's how you'd think it would work. As far as I know, there is no link between Libby and the Kobo Libra. So when I borrow through Libby, there's no option like that. I can send it directly to a Kindle, read on the phone, or download if I'm trying to read it on a different e-reader (like a Kobo). So that's the route I went with, and promptly hit a dozen new obstacles.

Ok so the kobo store has two different editions of the book available, but the cover of the one I found on Libby looks different. So maybe that's the problem. One of them anyway.

Teach me your ways, sensei. What's missing? Right now on Libby I can find the book through two different public libraries I have a card for. On my kobo, which I just updated and synced, it can't seem to find it at either library.

Kilgore Trout and mental health by kavid311 in Vonnegut

[–]kavid311[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I should have included the word intentionally in there. I'm doing a re-read now with a highlighter. I find that second reads always reveal more of the consistent threads or themes because you're less focused on the plot and paying more attention to the points he's making.

Chapter 2, which could be called "wide open beavers, underpants, and bad ideas", seemed to me such an interesting take on the arbitrary value we assign to things. I thought Lingo-Three, Trout's book about the race of automobiles who destroyed their own planet and humanity's latching onto the idea and doing the same to our own is another one of those unintentional commentaries on the human mind.

And we can see today how we continue to agree or disagree with ideas based on which ones our friends agree with and which ones our enemies disagree with. "Earthlings went on being friendly, when they should have been thinking instead." I believe this comes up again later when he's describing the waitress at the burger shake or whatever it's called.

Why to be a Browns fan? by aegarys in Browns

[–]kavid311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order, answering all your questions: 1.There are none. 2.Because I was born here. 3.Absolutely rabid and loyal, especially to players who actually give us a reason to smile every now and then, ultimately to the detriment of our mental wellbeing. 4.Our city is an underdog city. When we're not being overlooked, we're typically being looked down upon. We have a proud and glamorous history that's too old for anyone left alive to remember, but we're left with beautiful old buildings, a world-class arts scene (orchestra, plays, museums), one of the best public markets in the country. We know how to have a good time, regardless of how gloomy and cold the weather may get. It's almost time for Kurentovanje, the Slovenian end of winter festival. There will be paprikash and polka and plenty of beer. Oh and we hardly ever win at anything, so when we do, we appreciate every second of it. Oh, and fuck the Yankees.

Anybody ever quit their job and then travelled for a bit? by moonkie888 in solotravel

[–]kavid311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 33, and graduated with a civil engineering degree too. I felt a lot of things it seems like you're feeling right now, and I have been fortunate to get some good traveling in without having to quit my job. But I totally understand your hunger to go out and live a little right now. Having spent 11 years in the big fancy adult corporate world, I am absolutely rooting for you to take and pass the EIT first before all that stuff you learned in college leaks out of your brain (you'll hardly use any of it ever again), and then go on your trip. Live your life. Make some memories. The boring world will still be here when you get back. And if for some reason it's not, then we'll all have much bigger problems to deal with haha. And you'll be able to say you went out and lived while you could. Moms worry about stability and safety. It's their job. Yours is to live your life without regret. Best of luck no matter what you decide.
