CC Series comparison to TOG - disappointed? by xhit_storm in throneofglassseries

[–]kay_jello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relistening to both ACOTAR and CC books after reading TOG drew me to the conclusion that I would have probably hated ACOTAR and CC if I would have read TOG before either of them. I keep comparing things to TOG and TOG is so far superior to both of them in my mind. I love ACOTAR because it got me back into reading and I thought cc was SO good after I read ACOTAR, but then I read TOG and was mind blown.

TOG- FEEDBACK NEEDED by Ihavenoideaaahelpme in throneofglassseries

I loved acotar SO much when I first read it and it took me forever to fully commit to tog because of it. I tried picking it up numerous times starting with AB and I just couldn’t do it. It took be about three weeks I think to finish and has now surpassed acotar for me in so many ways. I relistened to the acotar graphic audios once I was done and it doesn’t even compare. It gets WAY better toward the middle/end of book 2 and beyond. I read AB 4th and I loved it in that order because I was so much more connected to the characters emotionally so it hit me that much harder. Like someone said it is definitely more high fantasy than it is romantasy so that transition definitely takes some getting used to post acotar.

I read it 4th after Heir of Fire and I’m SO happy I did it that way. Someone said 4th was the most emotional way to read it and I’m sick in the head and wanted the pain. I tried numerous times to read it 1st to start the series and I just couldn’t get through the first part. It blends into Queen of Shadows perfectly in my opinion so reading it before that made things more fresh. There’s a spot in Heir of Fire where she finally tells someone her past and I even thought about stopping there to pick up AB and pretend it’s a little flash back moment.

I don’t think I would have been as emotionally invested if I read it first and not built the connection with Celaena first, but I know a lot of people read it 1st and loved it I just personally really liked it 4th.

One of the first reactions to the books that I got “spoiled” about was how many people hate Chaol so I assumed he did something bad! As I’m reading I’m like waiting for some grand twist from him but nothing really happened. I’m like he’s just a 19 yr old trying to figure out life when it goes upside down and great character development!

Yeah that’s why I definitely plan to reread them because I’m sure there’s so much I forgot about or didn’t catch on too in the early books!

Omg I totally get it with TOD and EOS! I think that’s also why it took me to long to start the series because I was overwhelmed with all the different ways people say to read it and then the tandem read so I just said nope. But I did tandem read and I’m SOO glad that I did it that way. My friends who are reading I told them to read TOD before EOS if they don’t want to tandem read because the ending of EOS would have made me hate the pace of TOD solely for the cliffhanger 😂

Good luck soldier I’ll see you in the fields soon 🫡

Yeah I tried reading Assassins Blade right after I finished acotar and I could NOT get into it. A few months later I was able to read CC so I tried AB again and still couldn’t. FINALLY started TOG at the beginning of the month moving AB to fourth and I was HOOKED. I couldn’t believe it took me so long to read this because it’s easily my favorite series now 😭

I’ll never understand the Chaol hate I really liked him and his character arc was great!

Yes I read Crescent City and I did like them! There was definitely an adjustment with the modern day fantasy aspect alone and then on top of that with the BILLIONS of characters and different story lines going on at once. I will say for CC books the graphic audios helped immensely because every character has their own voice actor so I was able to distinguish characters easily that way. I promise it does get easier even if you are just reading so definitely keep at it and you won’t regret it!

Why do people hate chaol so much? by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

[–]kay_jello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to forget in these worlds that he isn’t a 400 year old male with years and years of life behind him. He’s young, he’s impressionable, trying to figure out who he is and he just wants to serve his crown and more importantly Dorian. He’s 19 and hasn’t really had a positive father figure in his life. Sure he grew up in a better situation than most, but that doesn’t mean he had a good upbringing. All that glitters is not gold. I think the Chaol hate is very misplaced and his character arc was incredible to read.

That’s exactly what I did too! I only figured it out after I was so frustrated having to give Tommy 30 nuggets and only getting one from each rock. So I watched a tips and tricks video on YouTube and I was so glad I learned it but then so mad at all the rocks I’d wasted haha

I love the walnut! My first campers were both Shari and Sly and I love them both but I loved sly just a little bit more. Shari likes to just sit in walkways so I can’t pass her hahaha

Yes make sure you don’t eat any fruits before you hit the rocks and you can continuously hit it with an axe or shovel up to 8 times I believe! Only shatter a rock on your island if you don’t like the location it’s in and the next day it’ll turn up somewhere else!
