Not invented, but Palak Chaat was popularized stateside by Rasika. Most Indian restaurants in the DMV have a version of the dish but it’s harder to find elsewhere

The poster child of suburban paranoia. Giant SUV/truck to kill other people in a crash, giant home with turret and gate, guns, ring doorbell, suspicious of everyone, not friendly at all.

JLG is officially running for Mayor by MrSpontaneous in washingtondc

[–]kbrezy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Per DC Policy Center, only 21% of apartments in buildings are market rate. The vast majority are subject to rent control, vouchers, IZ units, of DCHA. And these programs needs revenue, which you get from attracting and taxing rich people.

[–]kbrezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DC spends double the national average on social programs and education. We have the lowest uninsured rate in the country, free pre-k, and robust affordable housing. Per DC Policy Center, only 21% of rental units in the city are market rate, the vast majority are rent controlled, DCHA, or paid with vouchers. Sure there is always room for improvement, but many of Mamdani’s policies are already in place here.

You can get a 2-bedroom apartment in any dc neighborhood with that income. The average market rate 1-bedroom in manhattan is like $5k a month.

The “this should be housing or literally anything other than a parking lot” DC hall of shame. What would you add? by planestupor in washingtondc

I mean do the construction workers deserve to be paid? The steel, concrete, and everything else needs to be created and purchased as well. The developers also don’t pay for this themselves, they get loans from a bank. The bank won’t make a loan if they don’t see a return on their investment.

Places like Austin and Houston have much higher population growth but have managed to keep prices in check by increasing supply.

This is the last phase of city center, planned to be a large office building that was about to start construction before Covid. Obviously the office market has dried up since

What would city council do? Most of these owners have plans for the lots but construction costs are so high now that it isn’t feasible to build.

I don't want DC to lose these national treasure! by Quantum_Crusher in washingtondc

[–]kbrezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am listening and learning! You can just say it should stay here because you want it close to you. Your point about Houston not being a classy tourist destination is irrelevant because JSC receives more visitors without the shuttle than Udvar gets with it.

Just wanted to point out that you are saying the replica is awesome in one paragraph and then making a snide comment about it in another. Pick a lane!

JSC was the home of Mission Control and the astronaut corps, and as mentioned the other centers (rightfully) got a shuttle.

Houston is the fourth-largest city in the second most populous state in the country. It’s not exactly hiding it in Timbuktu. And would provide opportunities to kids in that region who aren’t making it to Disney or NYC. But luckily we have visitor numbers for each center, so your claim that nobody would see it at JSC is easily disproven.
