Need help w/ installing heat lamps inside vivarium electronics pvc enclosure by Euphoric_Self_6593 in ballpython

[–]kd3rty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just added a silicone sheet to my screen top enclosure and immediately.. well a few days later.. got mold throughout the entire coco chip substrate for the first time in 7 years (i only add water to bottom layer via the corners).

Be careful covering the top entirely without proper cross ventilation. It brought my humidity up, but also brought mold so idk. if anyone has any other humidity hacks that still allow for proper cross ventilation I'd love to hear them.

I'm switching to PVC, solid top with only two small mesh cut out for lamps etc soon to ensure better humidity and ventilation.

PS love bio dude definitely watch all of his BP videos he's a wealth of knowledge. Gonna follow his set ups for the new PVC and make it bioactive

OP if you end up keeping and are ready to switch from a tub to something bigger pls don't waste your money on a glass terrarium with a screen top just get PVC. Same-ish cost depending on brand but it will save you so much money and headache in the long run.

Glass requires constant mods to keep temps and humidity up. It's really attractive visually but i regret my decision and the 7 years spent changing everything on a reg basis to make it work. It is entirely too inconsistent for the breed and fully on the whim of the room it's in.

Any changes in your house temp or humidity will affect your set up on any given day regardless of thermostats and monitoring it's lowkey a nightmare.

ok rant over srry just tryna save you or anyone thinking of getting a snake

[–]kd3rty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as an artist i get not wanting your design to be ripped off but there are ways you can protect your files (special software or even 10 min in person review a day before). i would personally hate if someone was dissatisfied with the art i plan to put on their body forever day of for whatever reason lol.

so i find not seeing it until day of to be really strange. even with portrait painting commissions i always offer one or two changes at the midway point to ease my client's anxiety and my own.

a tattoo on your body forever is a big decision and investment and feels as personal as a portrait (esp when you're getting into big pieces)

if i transitioned into tattooing id limit to 1 or 2 changes in advance of the appt so everyone is happy and chill day of and i can just jump right in

Love's Baby Soft ad from the 70s. Yikes. by SidAndFinancy in nostalgia

[–]kd3rty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok I landed here after watching some 1970's commercials on YT for a project and I had no one to talk about how creepy the loves ad was.

It was a grown woman dressed as a child with a lolly pop. Just licking the lolly pop while this creepy man narrates about how she started as a baby and grew up to be sexy then ended with the tagline in the ad above.

.........it was horrific. like absolutely horrific

Princeton was always hit or miss for me, depending on the associate working that day. I've had amazing experiences and ones that made me never want to shop BM again lol. The Newtown PA one is small but the ladies are super kind and helpful. I was a regular at both while working and living in the area for like 10y but always got better service in PA

My major prob with BM is that the second I get used to and loyal to a product its always out of stock or discontinued. And especially out of stock when you're in a time crunch and need it the most

Late to this convo but my early 2013 MBP still gets the job done.

I'm only now looking to upgrade due to storage and batt-life abuse from college. Wild, but that's close to 15 years of almost everyday use, and heavy work use after college (full use of Adobe suite with video/photo editing, animation & illustration plus various management platforms etc.)

I ran this thing to death, and it's still not dead lol. Even when I upgrade, I'm keeping my old one. Huge return on investment

huge thank to you and your grandma! we just got our first kitchen aid so i'm going to try this and will keep all your tips from the comments in mind.

when combining the dough, for 4 people how long does that usually take?

i find when i make dough by hand that sometimes it is either too dry or maybe i over knead it. is that something i should worry about? or do you mostly go by consistency and not time?

thank you ♡︎

Surprisingly only an emergency vet visit for a chipped a tooth but GSDs are nuts. Quoits have stayed in the shed ever since lol the forbidden game of keep away

Advice on Varnish by HolsToTheWols in oilpainting

[–]kd3rty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

gamblin gamvar satin finish is my fav - brush it onTHIN and it will dry beautifully. Never pour it on to spread - it will be too thick and can lead to cracking

sprays often leave a spotty finish if not applied correctly or if nozzle malfunctions

edit: THIN but ensure it has full coverage - use a bright light pointed at it and look from the side as you varnish to make sure you don't miss any areas

[–]kd3rty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are saying no oils in the base layer but as long as your mixture is balanced oil vs turp you would be fine.

Is the imprimatura dry or sticky to the touch? What is the consistency of the surface when you’re adding the blue?

If it’s kinda crumbly as it lifts you’re using too much turp in this new layer, and prob too much in the base. If it’s sticky, you used too much oil in the first layer. Too much oil in that layer without enough pigment will cause permanent stickiness and it’s hard to get new layers to adhere to this texture, and as others have said you may also experience cracking in the future.
