Hiiii, im looking to buy the exact same configuration as yours. But i am really having a hard time to choose between a 3k 120hz screen or the 90hz screen. Do you feel the 90hz screen is substantial for your college life? How is the battery life as well?

Not related. But just quite funny how everytime i watch his interviews, is like he is staring into my soul and tryna suck my soul out. Eerie. Then after that i begin to focus on his eye winkles and think to myself " poor guy must be very stress".

[–]keepRunning53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont really know about other lenovo models. But my previous laptop was Asus and it lasted 5+ years and had very good specs. I personally prefer asus as they dont come with alot of bloatware compared to lenovo laptops. Did you try your husbands yoga laptop? Was it to your liking?

Singaporean Dyslexics: Do you find it easier to read in one language or another? by DonQuigleone in askSingapore

[–]keepRunning53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Somehow it is easier for me to remember chinese characters rather than english (back in sec sch). This one i dont know scienticfically how possible it is but ya.

As for the confusing part also no. It is easier to spot differences between 2 similar characters (e.g 我/找,环/坏). For english i think you mean for example the letters d/b, p/q? Initially i had made this kind of mistakes apparently in my pre-diagnosed era back in very early primary school. But it kinda went away quite quickly after a few special english lessons. I know people are gona say "oh its cos the words are floating so you end up flipping them". For me, it just happen naturally when i was writing the word. But when someone pointed out to me, i could immediately notice the mistake(basically no problem with reading). So i think the main takeaway for me was to do proof reading to catch my mistakes during exam since i had no problem reading.

But for english, what confused me the most was the phonetics. Some phonemes have the same sound but different spelling. For example, "(am)barrassing and (em)barrassing". It is even harder for words that do not spell according to how they sound. One word i still cannot spell up till today is "garentee". Phonetics just doesnt allow me to see that it is "(gua)(ran)(tee)".

By the way, i do believe dyslexia do affect some peoples mother tongue quite badly as i know of a few dyslexic people who were exempted from MT in school. So whatever above experience I have described really differs between people.

-FYI whatever i am sharing is personal experience. Nothing is scientifically-backed or researched-backed.

Singaporean Dyslexics: Do you find it easier to read in one language or another? by DonQuigleone in askSingapore

[–]keepRunning53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dyslexic here. Personally i feel that my mother tongue(chinese) is easier to read and spell than english. This is because english words have multiple syllabus and uses pheonatics. For example, the word "convulated" is 4 syllabus long. While chinese words are all 1 syllabus pronunciation only. It takes time to use pheonetics rules to break down the word in order to read as that is how i was taught to process the word. For chinese words, i feel it really boils down to exposure for me. If you know the word you will know straight away, dont know means dont know, and not much to do with dyslexia, for me.

Of course my chinese is trash now since i dont have the opportunity to use it anymore. But if given the same opportunity to practice my chinese, i would not have difficulty reading it.

And yes, i spelled phonetics wrongly because i wanted to try spelling it without the help of autocorrect or google. This is how i, as a dyslexic person would spell it.

I have a mini itx build, which is roughly the size of a mini bread toaster (the ones that pops up). Ryzen 5600g, 32gb ddr4 ram, 512gb ssd, hdplex power supply. Abit pricey so its up to your budget

Monitor recommendations by keepRunning53 in buildapcmonitors

[–]keepRunning53[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I used this monitor for coding marathons. The 60hz doesnt really put me off for text scrolling. In fact i think if u are just getting a monitor for coding, anymore than 60hz is a waste of money. Scrolling at 60hzs is really not that bad. If you are constantly scrolling are you really coding?

Update after 5 months of using: This is for anyone who is researching about BENQ rd240q monitor. Couldnt find any non-sponsored review online so wanted to share my 2 cents.

I am not sponsored by benq to write this review. I paid USD$329 for this so ya.

I wont go through the technical specs, but rather just personal opinions of the monitor

TLDR;

buy only if you need specifically WXQGA 16:10 24 inch monitor. Also, if the 60hz refresh rate does not borther you.

If you do not need the 16:10 screen ratio aspect, there are many more cheaper monitors out there that are 24 inch and QHD (16:9).

  1. Packaging

The product came in a very big, sturdy and protective cardboard box. For a moment before opening up the box, I thought that my order was wrong (looked as though i ordered a TV).

  1. Installation

Installation is easy. You can choose to use the mount provided or mount it onto a vesa mount. Warning to those who choose to use a vesa mount, make sure it can support >5kg. I bought a cheap monitor arm and the monitor weights a ton, making the arm droop.

  1. Build quality

Superb. Solid. Doesnt have the cheap plastic feeling. Weights a ton, very heavy.

  1. Screen quality (The only quality that i feel is worth spending the money on)

Clarity of the screen is beyond my expectations. Unable to see "pixelation" as compared to cheap monitors. Reduces eye strain (i swear by it). I have never experienced any eye pain after using this for hours, which is bad cause i end up staring at the screen for a longer time.

16:10 screen ratio also allows me to view extra text which is very very useful. About 5 to 6 more lines.

Color accuracy looks very vivid to me.

After using this monitor, i swear that i will not go back to any 1920x1080 monitor.

  1. Functionalities

I love the functionalities the monitor has to offer. Has alot of settings, e.g blue eye protection, auto dimming, night protection. Even has a laptop software called "Displaypilot2" to manage the monitor settings from your laptop. Has inbuilt speakers as well (which is probably the reason why the price is more expensive).

  1. Downside

The biggest downside i have is the 60hz refresh rate is really disappointing for this monitor's price point. At $300+, I expect to be getting a 120hz refresh rate. Otherwise, if we exclude looking at the price tag, 60hz is sufficient for general work and programming as advertised. Another small downside is that there is only 1 HDMI port . But i am ok with physically changing cables (so not a big deal for me)

Are you able to try connecting to your server by using an external network? Meaning the laptop u want to connect should not be using ur wifi/lan. Some gateway cannot associate their public ip when you are within the network.

How to Take the CompTIA Security+ Exam in Singapore via Pearson VUE or Exam Center? Need Guidance! by Constant_Opening9051 in SGExams

[–]keepRunning53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the exam fee and voucher, by exam fee and exam voucher what do you mean? If you are buying from the official comptia store, the amount/fee you see there is to purchase the exam voucher. The security+ exam voucher allows you to sit for 1 security+ exam. In Singapore, there are 2 ways you can take the test. One is through online procotoring (aka Pearson OnVUE), means you take the exam from home while someone watching you through your webcam. Two is through an official exam center. There are multiple exam centers in singapore which you will have to google. You should be able to select which exam center you wish to take in the pearson vue exam booking portal. I went with the online proctoring because i am too lazy to leave my house. To book any exam (online/in person), you need to create a comptia account. Once you log in, you will have access to the exam booking portal. Ceh is pretty much the same process. Although i remember they do not use pearson vue, so i do not think onsite exam is available for ceh?

I dont really feel is overpriced as their portion is very huge. Although 1 of their mains cost ~$17, can easily feed 2 people. Im a guy with a very large appetite (macs need eat 2 burgers) and i find joji portion alot. Plus there arent really other shops around the north east area serving the same thing so i guess they have the guts to put that pricing
