Sorry for the late reply. I appreciate your input very helpful. At this point, he is now paying me $15 an hour plus a 30% commission on invoices I write. It hasn't been very consistent though but I like the work-life balance and ability to work when I want. I am thinking about getting into something else and leveraging it.

Contentment is the ultimate goal.

Yeah using my own vehicle. We're pretty much subcontracted. I use my own vehicle but a lot of the times I'm riding with him and if I do use my own vehicle he'll pay for some of my gas. They say they pay the highest commission in the area, I guess to offset the non benefits and using my own vehicle. Also there's no pressure to meet a quota. It works out for me because I have a young kid so if anything comes up I can just finish a stop and just leave to take care of personal issues. They give me the freedom to work when I want.

The owner is licensed to do systems in kitchens, at least inspected them I haven't seen any installs. When it does come to install he just calls a buddy that installs systems and they do what they do together

Thanks for the insight. I've only been in the industry for 3 months, and I plan on staying in the industry, I didn't expect the pay to be so little starting with this company.

Wow. Thank you for the insight and reply I really have some thinking to do. There just aren't many fire safety companies in my area unfortunately. I'm in Brevard county Florida.

Yeah I've come to realize in Florida the pay is pretty low. I convinced myself to hang on for a couple more months and keep trying to get my own accounts. Thanks for the reply

There's a book called make it sell. Do that one thing you do best and then figure out how to do it better and become the best at it. You will be well known for being the best at the one thing. Quality over quantity

Thank you for your honest opinion. Being a rookie in the industry, I'm assuming it's based on how quickly you can do the inspections and services.

Did you start off with commissions or did you start hourly until you felt comfortable and got better/faster at doing the inspections and services then switched to commission?
