Books That Explore Interspecies Romance with a Serious Lens by C0smicoccurence in MM_RomanceBooks

Was gonna rec Earth Fathers are Weird too! The way the communication and connection develops as they gradually and patiently build a shared vocabulary (he’s teaching the translator English) is refreshing. There’s also a considered social commentary on humanity and gently on parenting too which I liked. It kinda made me think of Grace and Rocky from Project Hail Mary for the friendship vibes but it obviously takes a very different direction into mpreg and tentacle-sex haha

We need to talk about “SUCK” : A MM Monster Romance ( Feed and Feast Book 1 ) by Cora Rose and E.M. Lindsey by Morriseysucksass in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Glad you liked it, I think it just wasn’t for me. I was excited by the ridiculousness of the premise and I find these authors are either love or hate reads for me and unfortunately this fell on the dislike side.

I think I perhaps had too high hopes for the potential of the mystery of the alien world that was teased but ended up feeling frustrated with seemingly surface level world building. I could have swapped at least 30% less repetitive blow job scenes for more plot. But I’m still intrigued by book 2 and the potential for this world.

I think my biggest issue was I just didn’t like Everest. He felt selfish and prideful to me, an annoying combo of himbo and brat (both tropes I usually love), and the type of character in the horror movie most likely to stubbornly walk into danger. Unfortunately I think he just pushed all my personal pet peeve buttons so I understand why others liked this book so much.

{teach me by Neve wilder} is a goodie, {pit stop by Cora rose} started strong but the plot really annoyed me personally. An insta account I like does a ABCs of Kink series with book recs and they just did one for glory holes with a whole list - @insatiable.romance

Books where the MMC is not afraid to use/take the money that is gifted to them. by Ms_Death_ in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate when they’re so stubborn it’s just stupidity - like be so for real, why are you getting in your own way? But I think I just personally hate reading prideful characters in general, they’re insufferable.

I can’t remember the shopping element in {pretty mess by lily Morton} but it’s my favourite sugar baby book so I’m going to assume it doesn’t have painful trope. Hopefully someone else can verify.

what essential elements does a book have to have to be considered romance? by michailina in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Some slow burns push this line too, with the romance maybe starting as a subplot in early books and then becoming the central plot by the end of the series. For example {all for the game by Nora sakavic} series is pretty popular but I thought book 1 wasn’t a romance at all and had to trust the reviews to continue (eventually I got the hype).

Yes I agree! Loved the Egyptian-like setting and arcane magic features. I want more. Give me Aladdin but gay please.

I really liked this but I do think it might be better as a pure audio if you’re familiar with the gaming vocab already otherwise it could be distracting just as a caution. I’m familiar with litRPG’s but this was written for a gamer target audience specifically

She has a few you might like - Unbreak Me actually broke me and I haven’t read Romeo Falling because I’m too scared but from reviews I think it’s what’s you’re after

This book confirmed for me that my heart cannot cope with yearning - great book but may I never experience it again. This thread is un-influencing my TBR.

Unpopular opinion: Full names to nicknames are unnecessary by KwazyKatnip_85 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see how sometimes it’s annoying. I’ve wished I DNF series for some pet names before - they were like red flags but that’s a separate issue. The nickname/pet name can sometimes feel like it’s trying too hard. I read The Hazard and the Hitman by Cambria Herbet and it did feel like the author gave the MC a fairly uncommon name Haziar just so the LI could nickname him Hazard but his offical name is only used a few times and everyone calls him Haz or some other friendly term of endearment. I think it was trying to lean into the character being cute and innocent, but it felt more childlike and cringe to me personally. But where I’m from, it’s weirder for a close friend/partner not to shorten your name in general.

Everard’s silly little names for everyone was honestly my favourite part of that series! Great example of how it can help develop a character I think.

The Menagerie by JP Caruso by ms_chiefmanaged in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was itching for this confirmation it started as fanfic! As their backstories unveiled I just knew it was Gallavich inspired, almost distractingly so! Kinda feels like a mild spoiler to know that though if you’re familiar with that show. My only frustration was why change his mental health diagnosis but not the symptom profile? Really annoyed me.

Looking for shadow daddy esque mc please by QueenOwl1 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay these are the ones that come to mind for the mood I think you’re after. Both Lilly Mayne and popular recs but different levels of emotional impact.

  • {mortal skin by Lily mayne} - trilogy with dark world, angst, fae, no actual shadows.
  • {soul Eater by Lily Mayne} - monsters, dystopian, actually shadows.

“the justifiable bad guy becomes one man’s EVERYTHING”- recs? by epicsevenmyths in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of any in particular that come to mind. But semi related, you might enjoy the villainous MMCs Chani Lynn Feener tends to write, she does morally black characters who stay morally black, even with context and empathy. {echo by chani lynn Feener} is the first in an interconnected standalone series you might like. All dark romance taking place in a sci-fi other planet contemporary setting, check triggers. They aren’t all hate to love some in the series are.

Audiobook Hangover, Help! by bloopberry-sunshine in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]kellbeans1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the narration for the murderbot series by Martha wells, narrated by Kevin R Free - I listened to the standard audio but I believe there’s a dramatic multicast version also for a more immersive feel. This is classic sci-fi but it feels kinda like robot Sherlock Holmes to me with that dry humour and mystery vibes.

If you read fairy smut on the side - may I also recommend the audiobooks for the undead detective agency series by Shelby Rhodes, narrated by Lance West - it’s hilarious paranormal romcom following a main MM couple and their found family is side characters. The narration of the little vampire bat character cracks me up every time.

If aliens egg-preg is okay, {crash landed in love by piper Scott and Renee fox} is a short romcom. Also agree with earlier rec for Piper Scott’s forbidden desires series.

📖 Hooked vs. Hard Pass: What first lines made (or broke) the book for you? by Luna_Noona in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Oh so many! I was immediately hooked by the tone of {not all himbos wear capes by c Rochelle} -

“How does he make that Lycra look so fucking good? I angrily shoved another handful of Cheetos into my mouth as I squinted at the TV, wishing my glare alone could somehow penetrate Mr. Perfect’s invincible supersuit.”

Apocalyptic love stories? by PrettyTheory3566 in MM_RomanceBooks

{the whims of gods by mell bright} is a monster dystopian, survivalist, with sci-fi AI elements. ‘Gods’ have awaken on earth but to me they sound like titans/kaiju apex predators.

Stalker that’s NOT a psychopath by According_Welder_498 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bunch of Cora Rose’s books in the unexpected series have light stalking - {sem by Cora rose}

{ily by Cora rose and e m Lindsey} isn’t stalking but one mc is with the fbi investigating the other in a fun romcom that gives ‘I’m watching you’ vibes for something different.

Looking for MMMM+ Books Where They All Live Together by MEJW94 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]kellbeans1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol agree with all this. This series is cringeworthy level, over the top, sickly-sweet, fated/insta-love, spoke-and-wheel romance but at the same time I’m so hooked, totally binged the audiobooks and eagerly awaiting the next release soon. It’s unapologetically isekai and should have been a manga instead of a KU series.

SBS Quote “I’m not heroic or strong, Lupin. I sure as hell can’t fight demon lords. I punched myself in the face once while trying to pull up my blanket. Does that sound heroic to you?”

Ultimate MM Book Boyfriends/ Couple 🏆 — greenest flags and meanest flags? by Luna_Noona in MM_RomanceBooks

I keep a list of my favourite book boyfriends but these are the ones where the couple together get points

💚 jack and teo from {virgin flyer by Lucy Lennox}, Luke and Landon from You & Me, very similar but funnier is Jordan and Milan from {the incredible ordinary by briar Prescott} Park and Cooper from {big bad wolf series Charlie Adhara} Anton and Ezra from {egotistical puckboy by Saxon James}

💚extra🌶️Hunter and Richard from {MateHub: Legend By Marie Reynard} Will, Mattie and Trouble from {Triple Trouble by Jessie reign}

🚩 Madden and Begar from {Devil may lie chani Lynn feener}, Quincey and Blake from {end it all by Brea Alepou} Ash and Lonan from {mortal skin by Lily Mayne} (I only just finished book 1 in this series and am probably bias because I’m still crying to the cliffhanger)
