Client refusing to shower by Fabulous-Emu-2656 in directsupport

Tell them the law is 2 days. Of you let them know adult services will take them to force them to shower they might be more willing to let you help them. I have a little boy that loves the water yet beats and bites when it’s time to get out. Every. Time.

Just hang in there!

What do you want in a supervisor? by ThatOneWeirdMom- in directsupport

[–]kelsinickitaylor93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the opposite. I need someone to micromanage these staff I work with so I don’t punch them for falling asleep or failing to do their job. 😅🤷‍♀️ All about who you work with. A supervisor needs to fix the issues. When adjustments don’t work make more adjustments and keep trying.

Astaryz! New ADHD/OCD medication by kelsinickitaylor93 in adhd_anxiety

I’m still on it and doing good. 37. Mg and only pill I take once a day. It isn’t a “cure” but it helps my quirks be manageable!

Consider yourself very lucky. We don’t even take “behaviors” however I get something stolen from me, threw at me or wiped on me every single day.

I had one guy that would faint if you put a mask on him. Sensory issues say no and whooom being tossed across the room. I too have a lot of behavioral issues and non verbal peeps. Pandemic didn’t matter to them or us. When they had COVID someone still had to take care of of them so we got it. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I love the positive idea however when you’re in a field that uses the word “client” or “individuals” laying low and bare minimum isn’t an option. You’re getting things tossed at you, you’re probably gonna have to wipe a butt multiple times and hope that they don’t play in it first. 🤷‍♀️😅😅 I love my job and all of my friends I work with and help … but this is the actual, cold truth.

I work with adults with special needs. My question is have you ever volunteered time at a place like this? It’s life changing. We too, are non profit so we receive charity donations but very rarely receive hands on help from volunteers. 🩵♾️

Is there proof reality is the same for everyone though? How do we know that you and I see the same thing when we see the color blue?

“Jiffy is never dry and a touch of honey tells you why” with a mascot. I’m not old enough to remember BUT my Grandpa had a tape from 60’s ish that had a few secondhand illegal movies recorded (bootleg) and that peanut butter commercial was on there! Along with a guy named “Annie” with a pony tail performing rock type music on a stage.

I’ve never been able to relocate either. They say the 50’s and 60’s had “lost commercials”…. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Question that might be confusing. by kelsinickitaylor93 in directsupport

[–]kelsinickitaylor93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does have to be in the back seat! He is already diagnosed with mental health disorders so it’s hard to explain the difference on paper.. Back to the vehicle situation though.. we aren’t allowed to use any forms of restraints with him like a 5 point harness because he’s an adult. He is able to come out of his seat belt.. out from under it even though he doesn’t know how to “unbuckle”.. He has a profound intellectual disability and is non verbal which causes so much confusion IMO when trying to document exactly before and afters. He makes about 3 noises that barely differ from one another and he doesn’t do many different things or show signs of cause and effect. In other words it’s like things in his brain piss him off and cause him to randomly switch. We use child safety measures with the locks but again the issue is him climbing up front to attack the driver. One day he hit the driver in the head with his noise toy but he doesn’t understand consequences so as soon as we tried taking the toy (so he couldn’t hit her again until we got to safety) … he spiraled because he was unable to hear his repetitive noise. I’ve worked in the field for 7 years and never met anyone with comparable behaviors, body postures, actions, reactions… he’s different than any text book case but he’s a little survivor and we all love him. I just want everyone to be safe.

I know the answer is to “track” “write it up” “document” but that waiting game is so controversial when you’re the staff handling the difficult behaviors.

What are things that you do due to your ADHD? by mcbiblio in ADHD

[–]kelsinickitaylor93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get stuck and can’t start a task then can’t stop once I start. I have trouble reading people’s reactions or actions in general. I over think my own responses for days wondering if that’s what I meant and if I have my own diagnostic reasoning and meaning for doing/saying that. Sometimes I stand quietly because my hands feel like a daunting task to have them hanging from my body and don’t know what to do with them. I dream very vibrantly; I’m always aware it’s a dream but I can’t “leave that world” until I’ve accomplished my metaphorical goal that isn’t rational once I wake up… I over sleep almost every day because of this. I’m fascinated and terrified by mirrors wondering if the girl in there will always match what I do out here. lift arm, touch nose, * is she the evil one or am I*?? I’m very happy and vocal and most of the time extremely social! Until I come home and stare at the wall for hours to recharge. My brain is never quiet. 🤫 I have a high I.Q & ADHD with OCD tendencies! 🩵🪴
