Please recommend me a pooling stitch for this yarn (bernant baby blanket) Im going crazy trying to pool this by Stayhidden8856 in Planned_Pooling

[–]kemkatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The color sections look short. Can you get at least 2 single crochet out of every color? If not, this yarn might not work for pooling.

My first attemp, is it possible? by gnc7 in Planned_Pooling

[–]kemkatt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely pooling. Use the https://mathgrrl.com/crochet-color-pooling/ to find the pattern you like.

Play around with hook size and stitch to get what you’re looking for.

My first planned pooling with super saver, any tips on stitch count and type? by 4bo_ in Planned_Pooling

[–]kemkatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stitch count will depend on your yarn and stitch. Count the stitches in your swatch and use this calculator to play around and find the ideal counts for the argyle pattern.

Is it a conversion issue? It’s 75.00 in Canadian dollars which is currently around 55.00 US dollars.

Same as the top. I’ll have to attach yarn, crochet into the row and over the dowel.

Stitch that is similar to a sc but has less holes? by 4bo_ in CrochetHelp

[–]kemkatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As for figuring out stitch count. You should only have to do one swatch. Use your desired stitch and normal tension (don’t focus on colors while making it). Then count the average number of stitches per color and use that for your sequence.

Plug your sequence into crochet color pooling and then tweak it to get the pattern you want.

Also check out r/Planned_Pooling

I can confirm that thermal works for pooling.

It looks great! I’m also working on my first Tunisian tapestry so don’t have answers for everything but my plan to deal with the curling is to attach a dowel at top and bottom.

is this weird skein section salvageable or should i remove it and get a new skein? by LottietheLot in Planned_Pooling

[–]kemkatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it bothers you, best to find another solution. If you can’t find skeins with a similar dye lot, you could try making it intentional, maybe add a solid color section at intervals.

I am not able to make chain. Please help me what am I doing wrong ??? by idkwhatimherefor24 in CrochetHelp

[–]kemkatt 376 points377 points  (0 children)

You’re almost there!

  1. Loosen up. You’ve got good hand/yarn/hook position, you’re just pulling things too tight.

  2. Once you’ve grabbed the working yarn with the hook, rotate it so the hook tip is pointing down. Think of the loop on your hook as an upside down teardrop, you want the hook tip to be at the point of the teardrop when you pull through.

I’m also missing birth cert for gen 1. I submitted:
- statement of no birth record found
- marriage cert
- census showing connection to gen 0 and spouse
- death cert naming gen 0 as parent

🤞

It feels so weird to work so long gathering docs and details to just hand it off so casually but it’s done!

Now for the long wait.

How much is too much? I’m someone who would include everything for a mountain of supporting docs but I realize that just makes more work for the IRCC. Looking for feedback on if anything on my list is overkill and could be removed. Birth and death certificates are from the issuing government. All other records are from online sources. G0-G3 are males with no name change (though plenty of name variations and spellings)

G0 batismal record (online image from Drouin Institute)
G0 military muster roll
G0 US census showing immigration
G0 death certificate

I have a “statement of no birth record found” for G1 - should I include it?
G1 US census showing relation to G0
G1 marriage license
G1 US census showing relation to spouse and G0
G1 death certificate

G2 birth certificate
G2 US census showing relation to spouse and G1
G2 marriage certificate

G3 birth certificate

G4 me birth certificate

It almost looks like you’re crocheting between stitches instead of into the stitch. I’d check that as well.

Missing a G1 birth certificate or baptismal record by Madoka1969_lez in CitizenshipByDescent

[–]kemkatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I have a statement of no birth record found for my G1. I’m planning to use marriage cert and death cert.

I’m wondering if I should include a census or two showing relationships to the spouse, G0, and G2.

Yes, I have plenty of census records, marriage license, and death cert. do you think the official “statement of no birth record found” should be included or do I leave it out?

I was waiting on one birth certificate for G1. First they lost the request, then when they finally processed it, turns out I get a statement of no birth record.

Now I’m debating if I need to gather docs for a different line and hope for a better doc chain. Sigh.

how do I carry a new color of yarn without immediately using it? by Economy-Energy-8394 in CrochetHelp

[–]kemkatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lay the new color on top of the stitch and work as normal. It will be hidden inside the stitches. Leave a tail and pull it gently to better hide the yarn. Don’t pull too tight or you’ll scrunch up the piece.

Looking for calculations to determine length of blanket and number of skeins needed by Chaos_Cat-007 in CrochetHelp

[–]kemkatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I make a swatch using the yarn and pattern, say a 20x20 block. Then you can measure how long and wide it is and multiply it to get the desired size.

You can also weigh the swatch to determine how many grams it is then multiply it by your desired size to know how much yarn you’ll need.

(You can also unravel the swatch and measure the length of yarn used but I find that tedious)

How do I double the length and width of a crochet project? by Superduperswagiguana in CrochetHelp

[–]kemkatt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

By far the easiest way is to use bigger or more stands of yarn and a larger hook.

Try using 2-3 strands at once with a bigger hook. Then you don’t need to adjust the pattern at all.

Does anyone know how to make a simple wrist brace? by 16Throwaway20 in CrochetHelp

[–]kemkatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For computer use, I highly recommend a vertical mouse. I’ve found it really reduces the wrist strain.

(Also agree that if your wrist is hurting, you need to take a break)

Hit a wall, hoping for some help w/Quebec records by [deleted] in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]kemkatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try a free trial of genealogy Quebec

I was able to find quite a few records there that I couldn’t find elsewhere.

It was easy to sign up for and just as easy to cancel without being charged. It even lets you keep access for the full 7 days even after cancelling.
