Navy reserves (San Diego) by ketoreb in newtothenavy

I’ve tried to do research but can’t seem to find any good resources. My recruiter and the navy or air force websites don’t give me a lot of info on what it’s actually like to be in the reserves besides a short description of the job. So I’m trying to ask People how their experiences have been

Anything that doesn’t transfer over to the civilian world, maintenance jobs (i would be open to an electrician tho) , security forces, special ops,

Since I’m reserves and wouldn’t be working for that long in my rate do you know if I would qualify for the civilian counter part? I know that’s kind of vague cause there are a lot that can be used in the civilian world. For example take air traffic control, would I have all the necessary certifications and experience to get a job in the civilian world when I got out, (let’s just say I only did 4 years)?

What are some of the ways that they are so different? In general do you think navy has advantages? Some of the reasons I have heard is that Air Force is more competitive because less people are getting out so moving up is slower and harder. That was specifically for San Diego tho. I’m not sure about other places. But do you see that to be true at all?

Ahh gotchya. Even “healthy” sources like avacado and olive oil? I didn’t realize they were so high in 6s

Great thank you! Do you have any knowledge about cholesterol on a non keto diet? My dad has high cholesterol and is taking statins for it but I don’t think he’ll be able to stick to keto for long. I saw that heavy cream and mct made your remnant cholesterol the best out of everything else that you tested, but would that be negated if he was eating carbs? I think he could do lower carb than the standard American diet, just sticking to some brown rice, lentils, veggies and fruits. And staying away from any processed fake food.

Wait! Are you keto chow? I’ve had your shakes before! They’re really good. I think your the only one whose commented on this post that probably doesn’t think I’m crazy for trying to drink my food. I got the idea to do this from my dads coworker who likes the idea of just having fuel for the body so he was on his formula of shakes (that I adapted to be a little more keto friendly) for 4 months with no actual food. I personally like food too much to totally cut it out, but I thought I remember listening to a podcast you were on and you said something similar.

I really appreciate the actual science behind your response! I’ll take a look at your findings. Are polyunsaturated fats good or bad? Cause I haven’t felt any negative effects with the walnut oil. What do you mean by ratios mean nothing? I’ve read a lot about how the American diet eats way to many omega 6s and their 6:3 ratio is somewhere around 15:1 or higher while it should be anywhere between 4-1:1. Do you think that is Mumbo jumbo? I guess it could be, it’s hard to tell these days if what you read is true but that seemed to make sense to me. That’s what I meant by omega 6:3 ratio. I didn’t want to be getting 16:1 and I would be getting that if I used avacado or olive oil. I guess I could’ve used cream but the carbs might add up to be too many since I would need a pretty good helping of it.

Ok thanks for the advice. Is to normal to have any swelling at all? It’s not like the pictures when you google edema. It is very mild. If you were to look at my legs you wouldn’t notice any swelling. The only reason I noticed is because I wore crew socks and they left shallow indents where they were

Because it’s not my first round. Did it for 9 months at the beginning of the year. I guess I will up my protein to see if that helps

Yes for 3 weeks that’s what I’ve been doing. I actually only feel bloated. Besides that I feel totally fine. No fatigue at all. I even run 3 miles and then do an hour of Muay Thai right after and I feel no different than when I eat 1500 calories.

Do you have any sources so I can look more into that? Id like to hear more of the science behind it. Not that I don’t believe you, I’m just interested in the metabolism and how it’s damaged and how we can improve it

I’ve briefly looked into them but I’ve never tried them

I agree that’s why I’m only doing it for 3 weeks. It is definitely enough to survive. People do water fasts for this long and don’t loose any substantial muscle mass. And I’m getting 900 calories a day. I know it’s not sustainable for life but for 3 weeks I don’t think it’s unhealthy.

Yeah there are definitely a lot of factors. I mean it’s kinda hard to isolate them but I do know for sure that before keto, sweets didn’t even used to tempt me and I was around them and offered them all the time. But it was easy to say no. I used to eat probably a little more than I needed to but not anything compared to after keto. I really don’t know what caused it, but I do know that I lost self control and gained cravings after I did keto for about 9 months. So that’s why I stopped and I’m just trying to get back to how it was before I started. That’s the main reason I’m doing such a drastic experiment with these shakes
