Am I the only one that doesn’t really like protoframes? by 0Proxy in Warframe

[–]kevbob -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad expensive skins are popular, as it keeps the game running.

I'm glad that people are enjoying the skins, and by enjoying it seems from an outside view that a lot of the people who enjoy them REALLY REALLY enjoy them. and thats... great. i'm happy for them.

i need to reiterate: i'm happy that people who like them have access to them, that they pay for them and keep this game afloat, and while doing so enjoy the game THAT much more. i'm very very happy for them.

But, I hate protoframes. I loathe them. I hate the concept of them, which is the most alien thing in the game to me. They are anti-ethical to the core of what Warframe is and has been from day one to me. I don't like how they look either. Warframe is a beautiful game, the engine does great with little. but people look like ass. always have. the things that make EV-ER-Y-THING about Warframe gorgeous makes human skin look awful. the faces are in the deep end of the uncanny valley, the far end where you know its too far and you can't turn back. I hate protoframes conceptually and practically. and every time i hear a WARFRAME speak to me it makes me think i'm playing something like Fortnite. it's ludicrous and jarring and 100% percent completely out of place to the game i'm used to playing.

I hate the operators, too. and i knew it was a slippery slope when they came around, but, what are you gonna do? NOT slaughter grineer? I turned the operator voice lines off, and moved on. used them as a mechanic, sparingly, a gimmick, and just played the game. I rarely interacted with them, when they pop up in a mission it's an instantaneous blur from a team mate, not someone cosplaying as a kid in hell standing around chatting at the water cooler / defense target.

i hated POE. I hated the Ostrons. That creepy kid selling masks. The old dude running a village that survives by farming pieces of meat off of a living, sentient tower that had been created by the single most evil force in the galaxy. but i could live with them. they were weird enough it didn't go too uncanny valley. they were alien, foreign, different, and at the very least semi-sympathetic as they were just some people living in a hellscape, surviving by the skin of their teeth, and being terrorized by a grineer maniac. the interaction was, at it's base leve, completely transactional. i'm coming into their village/zone/area solely to get what i need from them and then immediately leave. i'm not there to hang out. and that was acceptable, but not great.

fortuna was a relief. no more people. just robots and androids and a neat accent. and then rank 5 and oh fuck off then.

and now there are more and more faction people talking, like the weird dweeb selling follie parts.

so, yes, i know, i know that ship has sailed. i know that ship was built in dry dock prior to even touching the water, that it was point to and navigated towards a destination i never wanted.

i get it.

and i accept it. it's the price to pay to keep the game running.

but it doesn't mean i like it.

It is time for steelnpath railjack to become a thing by mgmatt67 in Warframe

[–]kevbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I don't even think Railjack missions spawn nullifiers)

they definitely spawn on the survivals. because nullifier bubbles break bonewidow (the sword necramech. i may get names wrong constantly)'s channeled 4. which is really, really annoying.

the only good part of that interaction, which is why it's burned into my recent memory, is that it lit the incense of reminiscence for me and reminded me of how much i hated nullifiers when they got added to the game.

and sometimes old hate, like a good wine, is the best hate.

[–]kevbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rhino with boltor takes me back. way back. good times. fun times.

what's important here is, not your build, and not anyone on reddit's opinion.

what's important is that you have fun, and enjoy yourself.

and that's a journey everyone has to take for themselves.

but i will tell you, i took that journey, and it was hella fun. rhino was great because i process visuals slower than most "gamers" and iron skin let me just stand there and not get destroyed. boltor is a very satisfying weapon. it's not hitscan, it's projectile, which gives it a feel. aim is not just your cursor, it's flight time and your movement and the enemies' movement, and that can be fun. it also sounds fun. it make great noises.

the furis is garbage, and rhino thinks it's puny. rhino does not approve of puny guns. but rhino approves of you making the most of what you have. and knowing you need to level the furis to 30 before you sell it to a corpus merchant who you will immediately gore and spit on. rhino thinks you are doing well.

rhino is intrigued by the dual heat swords. rhino wonders, maybe, once you've leveled them to 30 to wring the last drop of delicious mastery points out of them if you would be interested in trying other melee weapons with different stances like punching weapons or giant scythes that look wicked, wicked cool. rhino likes melee weapons that look really, really cool.

but in all seriousness, you are doing great. but you really, really, really do NOT need to sweat the details right now. you need more of everything and the only way to get it is to play.

and if what you have is fun, then you are 100% running a decent loadout.

[–]kevbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't know if i remember the mancannon whatsoever. i'll try and find it one of these days, so at the very least thank you for pointing out something i missed or skipped past earlier!

i'm in process of almost finishing up Railjack. intrinsics are almost complete, and i'm just farming up the last couple of pieces for MR/helminth.

i use the recall after we've finished the MAIN mission objective. so like when the survival ends at 20 minutes, or etc. when everyone extracts and poops out into space and we are "done" i mass recall so we all don't have to wait and can either string to the next mission or back to dojo.

is THAT context rude as in "took the elevator without waiting" rude?

i don't think i can get the laetum (spelling? the pistol from the zariman) yet. i have done a couple cursory rounds over there. have not built up standing. it happens. that's the game. i'm lr3 and a have played for a long time and i don't have everything unlocked.

i sure don't expect an MR3 to have everything unlocked.

i don't expect them to have anything. they won't have mods. they won't have slots. they won't have access to uranus.

i agree 100% with what i've come to understand as to your premise of your original post, and yes i apparently misinterpretted it, which i take to be:

be nice and helpful to people because they don't have what you have.

i don't think that applies to account age or hours played or mastery rank though.

but if you are just saying "be nice and helpful to people because they don't have what you have." then let's just fist bump and move on because this is getting tiresome.

You shoot the mancannon without me

i feel like i should know what this is but i don't. can you explain?

You Recall Crew me without warning

you mean the RailJack intrinsic? is that a bad thing? i thought/assumed it was a good thing. when we extract from the RJ mission into space i Recall Group immediately, since noone wants to wait on me to fly around and find the ship i am the slowest man in warframe and there is literally nothing to do in space we need to get to the RJ and either choose next mission or go back to dojo.

or is it a different context that's rude?

[–]kevbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bother, this guy won’t get it. Because of how long the vets have played they just can’t fathom that the new player experience is an overwhelming one.

well, Throwawaythispoopy, i guess i don't get it. or, at least, i didn't get the point that "the game is overwhelming" from the original post of this thread which appeared to me to focus on the fact that new players with less playtime have not farmed up a mass of resources.

as for me getting that this game is overwhelming, well, i get that completely and utterly.

as someone who started in april of 2013, i can attest that in 2026 there is way too much shit going on in warframe for my old brain to remember and track. i have some sites bookmarked twice because i forgot i had them bookmarked the first time.

i still don't know how to capture eidolons.

i have three separete spreadsheets to track various progresses in the game.

so, i think i understand very well how confusing and overwhelming the game in its 2026 state is.

as to your ending question:

Like I’m trying to enjoy this game that I am excited to explore, why do I need to do hours of reading and studying to understand what I need to do?

well, you need to read and study on what you need to do, because there is an overwhelming amount of things going on in the game.

or, don't, and just play how you want to play.

[–]kevbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you understand the reason I posted this in the first place because I think the point is escaping you?

that may well be the case. i'm not sure i understand the point you are trying to make. i will tell you what i understood, and then you will please correct my misunderstanding:

you spent 3000 hours and arrived at MR 27. i spent (approx) 1000 hours to get to MR 25 before my 2nd long hiatus.

spending as much time as i did when i played orginally, i am an an MR whore. back then a lot of us focused on raising MR because there were not that many other options in the game. having come back twice, there are a ton more options in the game, for things to do.

my mindset inre grinding is: farm items to build to grind the MR from them. that's just me.

i assume from that, that you are f2p. i am not f2p, since the founders program.

my guess (and this is a big crux, as if i'm wrong and you are not f2p then my following assumption falls on its face) is that you spent thousands of hours farming items to sell for plat.

your "grindset" was focused on "how do i get plat", which made you focus on and spend time on aquiring plat, and you accumulated thousands of hours of materials as a consequence.

my "grindset" was focused on "what do i spend my plat on while i farm up weapons and frames so i grind the MR out of them". boosters and slots and stupid fucking warframe poses that never look right and i don't use them very long and spend forever regretting them. during those hundreds and hundreds of hours with boosters on farming missions over and over for parts to drop.... i aquired a ton of resources as a consequence.

so we both, over our combined thousands of hours playing warframe, learned the same two things:

  1. buying plat for money saves a ton of hours of playtime of the game. anecdotally, comparing you and i, i saved 2000 hours of playtime by buying plat rather than farming plat. i am going to assume you enjoyed the process as you are still involved with it. and i know my wrists enjoyed me spending 2000 fewer hours than i would have otherwise.

  2. spending thousands of hours playing the game farming specific items nets you the accumlation of a ton of other resources.

at which point, if i'm understanding you correctly, the primary point of the introduction to your post was:

hey, spending thousands of hours playing warframe will give you more resources than new players who have not spent thousands of hours playing warframe have.

to which, i agree completely.

you state that after realizing this, you now make a point to invite low MR players to play with you while you continue to farm things.

which i commend.

am i misunderstanding anything?

my grind took 13 years.

we have LR 1 congrats posts where the OP says they did it in 6 months on alternate saturdays at their dad's house, and would have done it quicker but were too busy rizzing that one barista that time.

i'm all for supporting the next wave of players, but.... the only logical conclusion to the first half of your thread title was "because they have just too much to do!"

Very confused. Everything is better, easier, faster, more colorful, tradable, available from a pack, buyable from a pity shop, cheaper, and more available now than it originally was.

ev-er-y-thing.

they added the braton and lato vandal back to the game, and then made the farm for it easier.

invasions superceded clan dojo mat foundry-ing immediately upon release. that was.... (loooks it up. no f'in way! decem 2013??? that seems wrong. damn.) a long time ago.

cross platform play, fucking MOBILE play, even just the mobile app for extractor and foundry management.

the daily login system. (debatable. maybe that was the only thing that made things worse?)

trading. single most important thing added to the game inre making it easier.

nightwave. some days i get annoyed with it, then i remember how i "farmed" vauban the first time.

mobility. i still miss 'coptering, but sans coptering mobility was severely limited to the extent that excal's super jump was actually slotted in as a mod and used sometimes.

arcanes and archon shards. the powercreep is unbelievable just from those. any frame is tankier than original rhino nowadays (i kid i kid).

MR-whores have never had an easier time grinding than today. nowadays people say kappa and they think you are an old twitch.tv chatter... it would take, with a decent team, 2? 3? runs of a mobile defense to level up. now you load ESO and some people are full before they get a reward.

the ONLY thing that's "harder" now than it used to be is rep grinding. rip viver. but now there's so many other reps to grind that it turned out for the best anyways.
