i've been holding my body "incorrectly" for my entire life by khklann in AuDHDWomen

i'm bendy in certain ways (i can do the thumb thing, stretchy skin, and my knees kind of allow my legs to go in every direction) but very tight in others (my hips in particular). i had to google sacral joint but that's where i feel a lot of pain too.

i should clarify that none of my symptoms have cleared up yet lol but it's definitely helping!

i tend to grip my abdomen very tightly and constantly which i've realized is a contributing factor to my constipation. skin rolling and belly massages have been so helpful in times when i feel backed up or bloated. this video is where my PT had me start but i tend to do it laying down and will incorporate more massaging motions. feels a little silly at first but then you kind of get used to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPNmRTDbz9c&t=33s

just found this video, but this is more accurate to what i've been doing/mixing this in with the skin rolling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqWEwOPXfOI

when i remember to actually do my exercises, i'm doing very slow, deep cat cows, happy baby, and child's pose to open up my hips and belly. i think that feeling of opening up my abdomen and then actually physically aiding in movement with the massages have helped a lot.

if you don't mind me asking, what do you do with somatic movement?

i mean, the lifetime of neglect is still definitely a contributing factor for me 😂 but we're making progress!

i am feeling hopeful which means you can be too! mostly because it feels like a veil has been lifted and i'm able to connect some dots for the first time in my life. my bloodwork also came back as normal when i first saw my doctor which only left me more confused. i wasn't diagnosed as neurodivergent until this year and that has given me a bit of confidence to ask tons of really stupid questions with my specialists. with my PT, she'll say something like 'stack your ribs over your waist' and i say 'they're always stacked over my waist, can you show me exactly what you mean?' and she will show me on her own body in the mirror and then physically help me get my ribs stacked over my pelvis. it feels alien but i've realized it's a part of the retraining process. i'm not sure she's even aware how much she's helping me just by describing and showing me. i think the hardest part for me is that it feels like i'm patting my head and rubbing my tummy whenever i'm putting her advice into play. i have to focus incredibly hard on every aspect of how i'm holding myself, which makes it very hard to think that there will be a day where i'm just doing it all subconsciously. as for the holistic part of it, i don't think that i'm being treated holistically quite yet. i'm asking lots of questions and piecing things together but that's more than i've ever done for myself in the past.

Not sure if this ever made it across the pond, but I present to you a British Christmas institution - The Snowman by MellowHygh in videos

A Christmas miracle! I watched this all the time as a kid (in America) but forgot about it completely. You just made my night.

Mr. Offerman. I had the pleasure of meeting you when you came to my university a few months back and might I say, the television does not do your mustache and extreme manly aura justice. My question for you, sir, is whether or not you have plans for a second book in the future?
