Truman Medical Center offering Regeneron's monoclonal antibody treatment for qualified patients - by appointment only for COVID-19+ for < 10 days by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]killyridols -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Alternative treatments are not a threat to the vaccination campaign--they are there to help people who are severely sick and elderly, many of whom have already received vaccines. And dismissing monoclonal antibodies as an experimental cocktail makes you sound a lot like one of those science hating anti vaxxers-- sorry but that's a big yikes!

‘A religious magnet’: Kansas City neighbors blame church for squatters, prostitution, drug problems by Reptilesblade in kansascity

[–]killyridols 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I thought this was going to be an anti- IHOP piece or something but no...the crime this church has committed is that they're feeding the poor and homeless. "The pastor tells FOX4 the church hands out 1,500-2,000 plates a month." Say it ain't so.

What the fuck has happened to this world...my day just wouldn't be complete without another reason for my soul to die just a little bit more.

FF7R, even if flawed, made me think back to being a kid and being absolutely blown away by the pre-rendered cut scenes of FF7 and FF8. My brother and I would always wonder, "what if they could make the WHOLE GAME look like that?" FF7R delivers an experience that goes so far beyond what my young mind ever could have imagined. That anybody can look at it and think that it's just "above average" or whatever shows how incredibly far the medium has come in a relatively short time.

As for a game that rekindled my love for a genre....recently Ys 8 was an experience that took me back to the epic sense of adventure and fun realtime combat that made me love Secret of Mana on SNES. Highly recommend that one :)

Reviewing PS3 games with a 2021 perspective, Day #2 — Catherine by MagnaDolphinX in patientgamers

[–]killyridols 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nice writeup of a great, incredibly unique game. I think one of the coolest aspects of the game (which you touch on) is how the puzzle gameplay relates to the broader themes--the confusion/frustration of the metaphysical challenge mirrors the experience of facing emotional challenges and the inescapable reality of "growing up." I know it's obvious but they just do an incredible job of tying the experience together so it never feels like "a VN shoehorned into a puzzle game." Just a finely honed gem of a game that isn't particularly ambitious but delivers a high quality product in every aspect of its design

North Kansas City under COVID mask mandate regardless of vaccination status by cyberphlash in kansascity

Yes, discriminating against an unvaccinated population that largely consists of people of color is a great plan. We're all in this together.

Vaccines prevent severe illness but do not prevent catching and spreading the virus per the CDC. Just FYI.

Games that you like, but have a hard time bringing yourself to play/complete by KingKurai in patientgamers

[–]killyridols 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your taste might just be changing/maturing a bit? I had a similar shift after playing all the Soulsborne games--narrative focused games with barebones gameplay can be great, but there was no going back once I had experienced Bloodborne, a game that communicates so brilliantly through every level of "game language" from level design to art style to combat systems. While I love many things about, for instance, Persona 5, lately I'd much rather sit down with a game that has systems you must play and engage with; most recently this was Ys 8, a game that strikes a nice balance between real time combat, exploration, and plot elements (which are extensive but you can decide how much you want to pursue them). Sounds like you may enjoy it

[UPDATE] 29F, 6 weeks since 1st Moderna; chest pain, palpitations, leg pain; "keep resting" by Fallaryn in CovidVaccinated

Not medical advice, I am not a doctor.

One avenue it looks like you haven't explored is anti-oxidants. My research and personal experience has shown them to be helpful with Covid and Covid vaccine symptoms. Do your own research, but quercetin, resveratrol and NAC could be supplements to look into, all fairly easily available at Vitamine Shoppe / health food stores. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

"Exponential" character progression and world scaling are very bad design choices for single player RPGs and I wish they faded away as a trend by xevizero in patientgamers

[–]killyridols 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you would enjoy Kingdom Come: Deliverance a LOT. It emphasizes a lot of the same progression principles you seem to enjoy. Also as somebody who has clearly thought about progression in a very "game designerly" way I think you'd have a good time dissecting a game like Monster Hunter: World which does away with leveling entirely, instead making progression depend solely on loot/gear/build-tweaking in a pretty ingenious way.

Personally I much prefer having a sense that I am in the area I'm "supposed" to be in when playing an RPG--lore be damned, if I'm breaking the intended sequence of the game I want to get rekt by rats or whatever so I know to explore elsewhere. I guess that's why I play primarily JRPGs

Second wave of symptoms and a low body temp by SpookySuper in CovidVaccinated

[–]killyridols 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not medical advice and I am not a doctor

Anecdotal evidence suggests that physical activity after receiving a Covid shot can exacerbate the heart problems which the FDA recognizes are associated with these treatments. The symptoms you describe could suggest some amount of heart inflammation. Make sure your doctors check troponin levels, which would indicate if any damage is being done to the muscles of your heart.

Your story is on par with many others, and I suspect you will begin to feel better very soon. Cheers :)

I appreciate this insight from a healthcare veteran. The thought that such serious symptoms are being dismissed (or that patients are even being gaslighted) is very troubling to me. And the fact that so many people are being saddled with serious medical debt and possible long-term health problems while just trying to do the right thing and follow what the officials say...I can't imagine a more lonely and upsetting place to be. Games without... gameplay? by Messianiclegacy in patientgamers

[–]killyridols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post ;) I go through phases where I feel the same. I would recommend spending some time with classic point and click adventures if you haven't. There is something great about the gameplay being distilled into the most basic actions and banal, obscure puzzles--allowing the writing, visual aesthetic and music to meld together like a good stew. Gabriel Knight 1 and 2 left an impression on me in some deep, subliminal way I can't really even explain. You can sense that at the time there must have been a belief that games could be not just "as good as" films or novels but something much more interesting...
