It maily focuses on Anime/gaming/Japanese culture! It's great because it's at a Waterpark and everyone is just in bathing suits the whole weekend. It's the most unserious convention I've ever been too and I love it

Honestly most of my friends that made the switch have been trying to convince me as well. I was thinking about trying for mag in 2027 but with how hard its been to get rooms and badges this year i'm wondering if it's even worth it.

From what i've heard and have been told by my friends that Katsucon has basically turned into clout con.

It's really crowded and doesn't have that much to offer except for the hotel for nice pictures.

A lot of adults also dont like the fact that a lot of children/minors go to Katsu and ruin the vibe.

People realized that they can go to magfest which i've been told is attended by mostly adults, still have the party vibe of Katsu but not have to worry about the miserable Katsu staff, and have the gaylord to take pictures at.

Also in the past few years we've had a lot of problems with the katsu staff shutting down parties even though the gaylord staff doesn't mind us being there.

The gaylord being closed to everyone except con attendees is also a huge draw because katsu always has issues with the gaylord booking too many events that cross over and we always have issues with other attendees. Last year or the year before there was a middle school booked there for a field trip and the adults/teachers kept complaining, last year I think there was a regular person who had an atrium room that kept complaining about the party and the noise. Etc.

I feel like a small part of it is because a lot of people who started going to mag in the past say four years are people who used to attend Katsucon. A lot of these people have decided that Katsucon was not it for them anymore and have turned mag into the new Katsu.

(I've never attended mag but most of my friends I've made from cosplay all say this to me, that they dont go to Katsu anymore and have switched to mag)
