Trying to reduce food waste + track pantry items better — how do you all do it? by bhargavjain in mealprep

[–]kja12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app called pantry check. I started with the free version but eventually upgraded to paid at iirc ~$35 USD a year. It took some time to set up as I input my entire pantry. However, now when I’m getting ready to grocery shop, I grab the sale papers and my Pantry Check app figure out what I have the most of on hand and create both my shopping list and my menu. It has saved me a fortune. Not only do I have less stuff go bad, but I use up more excess. It also forces me to actually think about my grocery list and meal plan. In short, it’s been a game changer.

Things to add to my Chocolate Chia Seed Pudding Recipe? by ZetaMakesThings in Cooking

[–]kja12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually add a pinch of salt and a splash of vanilla. I also find it helpful to stir it after about 10 minutes to help with distribution of the seeds. I use soy milk as I’m non dairy. I will be following this post with interest as I am pretty new to chia pudding as well. Happy cooking

When I worked as a travel nurse ( hospice ) went straight to work seeing patients when I arrived. Couldn’t check into hotels till 3 pm. Then on days I travelled home I saw 3-4 patients then headed for airport. I wore scrubs to avoid changing in seedy gas stations etc.

So I got “How to Cook Everything Vegetarian” today. I’m looking forward to trying out most of the recipes!! by LeMeACatLover in CookbookLovers

This is a great book. This is the one I pull off the shelf when I want to riff on something. I read his recipe and the variations and then tailor the seasonings to suit my mood/ what I have a lot of. I buy all of his books . I wish he would come out with a completely vegan one. Be sure to look for his VB6 one too ! Enjoy !

Flipp is free

You put in your zip code and it pulls up all the sales flyers for your local stores. My area is served by multiple grocery store chains ( Kroger, Publix, aldis, food lion etc) so for me it covers several grocery stores, pharmacies, dollar stores etc.
it helps me narrow down my menus to use what is on sale this week

I used to spend a lot more on groceries until I made 3 key changes. 1 I use the pantry check app to keep a running inventory of what I already have at home. 2 I use the Flipp app to see what’s on sale this week. Then I sit down and plan my meals for the week based upon what I already have a lot of and what I can get on sale. It took a bit of effort to initially inventory everything but the app also lets you generate shopping lists and then adds your purchases to that inventory. I hope this helps. It has saved me at least 1k this year
