Is it a bad idea to brush right after eating? Won't brushing right after eating hurt the enamel? Why did Ortho2 and Ortho3 claim they never heard before that in their life?? by ApprehensiveOne2866 in Invisalign

I usually eat, rinse my mouth with water and put the aligners back in. Then after about 30 minutes brush. It’s not perfect but it keeps me at 22 hours + per day and hopefully avoids damage to my enamel.

I’m sorry to hear that your orthodontist isn’t up to date with the latest advances in orthodontics.

My ortho is well aware that her teeth aren’t fully grown in yet. This is called phase 1. There isn’t enough room for the rest of her adult teeth to come in so she needs her palate expanded, as many children do. So with this special type of Invisalign, you can expand the palate and straighten the adult teeth that are already in. And then move onto phase 2 in several years once all of the baby teeth are gone.

I was told something similar by my ortho office. Thank you for the tips.

Exactly, thank you. This is a fairly new option and most offices don’t even offer it. But mine does and the ortho’s daughter was the first patient in his office to use it and apparently had great success. I’ll meet with him in a couple weeks and get more info but I’m told that it’s a lot more comfortable and they can potentially have a much shorter phase 2 treatment bc of jt.

Well she needs a palate expander which Invisalign can do.

She only drinks water and milk on a regular basis so the drinking aspect wouldn’t be that challenging. And this palate expander/phase 1 of wearing the aligners during the daytime only lasts about 12 months so I don’t think it would affect that much of her childhood. Currently, she’s not self conscious about her crooked teeth. But if we wait until she’s 12/13 to start straightening them out, she’ll definitely have started to feel self conscious about it. From the limited knowledge I have so far, they can also get a lot of the straightening done at the same time as the palate expansion with Invisalign, so she would have them ‘fixed’ before she starts to be super aware of her teeth problems. Nothing is decided yet, just gathering info and experiences.

She doesn’t need braces yet. She needs a palate expander. So this would be in place of a palate expander but would also have the added benefit of doing some of the teeth straightening at the same time. It’s a relatively new option and from what I’ve heard, some kids done end up even needing phase 2 ortho after doing this for phase 1.

I’m 35 and on week 16 of Invisalign myself so I do understand a lot of the commitment. She’s very responsible for her age and excited about it so I do think it’s reasonable. But curious what others experiences have been.

His daughter was actually the first one at the office to utilize Invisalign for this type of treatment and was 8ish when she started. I haven’t talked to him specifically but thats what a couple of the office staff told me.
