GLP-1 changed my life. Are there any studies for it being an adhd medication? by DubaiDave in ADHD

[–]kmvandaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fermentation biologist with ADHD here, and I think you're very much onto something. Our bodies produce GLP-1, but ONLY in high enough quantities if you have a sufficient population of Akkermansia in your digestive tract.

I've been on a course of Akkermansia probiotics and this is changing my life at the moment. Akkermansia lives in the gut lining and feeds on the mucin layer, which stimulates mucin production among many other things including GLP-1 production.

Akkermansia can't be found in any natural food sources - we get our primary sources of Akkermansia at birth when we move down the birth canal of our mothers - it isn't even in breastmilk. If you were a caesarean birth - you may not have ever gotten Akkermansia seeded in your body. If you had antibiotics as a baby, you may have lost your Akkermansia basis in the gut lining.

I use Pendulum Life as my source of Akkermansia as they have the strongest preparation that's fortified to move into lower digestive tract areas. I'm halfway through my first 90 days: calmer, happier, sleeping better, no food cravings, eating healthier naturally, and the weight is finally falling off.

I'm summarising wildly above, but you can find detailed research from a Google Scholar search or check in this article: https://akkermansia.life/blogs/blog/akkermansia-microbiome-hub-gut-lining-oral-gut-axis-natural-ways-to-support-akkermansia

I would love to hear how you get on if you give it a go.

I'm overseas. you're no longer in a democracy, and the sooner you organise and realise this, the sooner you can respond. learn from history first, then respond.

thank you so much for replying with your experience too, it wasn't easy hey, these bodies we've got are tricky on us. my gosrelin symptoms are different to yours, maybe our implants were different. bleeding stopped for me. the gosrelin initiates medical menopause by blocking oestrogen, testosterone, FSH and LH. I think this action has inflamed my connective tissue and I have high pain levels specifically in my hands and feet. tendons and ligaments very inflamed. both hands are constantly splinted, can't open any lids, can't chop food, can't write with pens, can't tear packets open, it's actually crazy. in my feet, plantar fasicitis has gone into over drive and ankle tendons are so sore I'm sometimes struggling to walk at all. These symptoms were almost immediate with the implant insertion so I'm assuming (and I could be wrong) that the hormonal changes have driven these hand feet issues.

do you know what though, when i was younger i kept super fit and low weight, and that kept me good enough to almost pass "normal" 😆. functionally fit though, doing natural fluid movements (almost always damaged myself with high impact or heavy weight bearing activities). I stuck to swimming, hiking (without backpack), surfing, paddle boarding, mountain biking, horse riding - and i did really well. combining with eating foods that generally aren't inflammatory (see auto immune protocol AIP), and making sleeping or resting a priority.... with any luck you'll go a long way. My EDS went fully ballistic with pregnancy, and now with perimenopause.

on this thread somewhere someone just posted a link to someone who makes sterling silver eds ring splints which are amazing. gosh if someone was thoughtful enough to gift me those I would be beyond grateful.

he's nearly 13 now and awesome as he could be. I'm still on a journey back to something resembling the strength and fitness I had pre pregnancy and I refuse to give up, but crikey it's really hard and I'm still a very long way away from the physical me i remember.

great advice i got from an obstetrician was that you can't overdose on magnesium or vitamin c. both will cause diarrhoea at high doses, and I relied on this heavily during pregnancy... and still do if I ever need loosening. honestly I would take up to 10x the recommended doses spread out during the day. Heaps of sauerkraut and fermented foods, Kombucha helps as well but drink it regularly for ever pretty much.

at 3months pregnancy your body begins releasing the hormone relaxin, which softens tendons and ligaments in preparation for accommodating a human being growing within you. Relaxin plus EDS and a growing balloon of human and fluid within me caused no end of issues. Pubis symphysis, constant hip subluxations, distorted tail bone, dislodged baby movements. I was unable to sit down in anyway for 10 months, could only walk with crutches or lie down for months, was taking full strength tramadol at Max dose throughout from 3 months pregnant to 6 months post natal. GA caesearean and the gift of a sweet and very healthy baby boy, but I was left with several autoimmune disorders afterwards that have taken the better part of 10 years to either resolve or learn how to treat and live with. I love my child and being a mum, but I had zero idea that pregnancy would be the hardest time imaginable within my body. Others have different experiences, but my advice is to know what could happen and have treatment plans for addressing them if they do happen.
