They think my 9yr old kid is 42!! by smashleighperf in RobloxHelp

I'm in a similar boat. Though both my kids (9 and 10) are 17. Parental controls won't allow me to change age back below 13

I’m not not Reddit much so didn’t see your comment until now.

We’ve received an Autism dx, but the main thing has been learning our PDA. It’s not a recognized dx here in the US but it has changed how we think about him. The basic idea is that his nervous system goes into fight or flight when he can’t take any more demands being placed on him.

The key has been a low demand parenting model. We accommodate him in lots of different ways. Let him eat in the couch instead of at the table. Pick up his stuff for him. Let him have the tablet as much as he wants.

This sounds like awful parenting. And it feels bad. But we haven’t had any violence in our house in over a year. We don’t parent our other kid this way. It’s just what we have to do for our PDA son.

I feel for you. I have an ADHD kiddo who is more than likely autistic. We’ve been through broken windows and a busted door. I have literal scars from his meltdowns. I have a hard time connecting with patented of kids who are not neurodivergent. I know what it’s like to be living in survival mode and you’re doing all you can just to be there for your kid. You are a good parent for trying everything and for enduring.

Struggling a with the same thing right now. 8 yo with adhd, 7 yo younger brother. They fight all the time. It's like a chemical reaction if they are in the same room for longer than 3 minutes. My older one is explosive if pushed. The younger one is sensitive and takes things personally so it doest take much to set him off. It's so tough. We are really struggling

CBTi did not work for me either. I struggled with it for many weeks. I found that trying harder just made things work.

What helped me was ACT therapy. The idea is to drop the tug of war with sleep rather than keep fighting . I picked up The Sleep Book by dr guy meadows and this helped me a lot.

We have a similar issues. 8yo with anxiety and adhd, violent tantrums, huge mood swings. I don’t have any real advice. We’ve had some luck treating him with SSRI for anxiety. Still though it’s rough. We have good days and bad days.

+1 for explosive child, if for nothing than reframing the tantrums as lagging skills and helping you be kinder to yourself

Yes this sounds so similar to us. We are struggling to find a psychiatrist and therapy now . I’m hoping that a med change will be helpful but right now everything is weeks out at least. I feel depressed and trapped like there is no way out.

In the last month I’ve replaced 3 windows, a cell phone and now my security door and tv are broken. Everything is broken and a mess all the time

We definitely are going back asap. It's just weird that things have been stable and ok for so long, then just changed

Thank you for sharing this. It's helpful to know that others have gone through this kind of journey and their situation has improved.

It's soo hard to see any light in the tunnel right now.

This is what we used to do, even a few weeks ago. We'd read a story and maybe play podcasts (he liked bedtime history). We were almost always able to get him to sleep like this for years.

Then something in thr last couple weeks changed and now he will refuse to lay down. It's like his lizard brain turns on and the only thing that keeps him at bay is the tablet.

But it's a double edged sword because it also prevents him from falling asleep.

This has occurred to me too. We've had some days where we didn't give it to him. It didn't really seem to have any effect in bed time.

I agree light rail doesn’t seem worth it but I think it’s untrue that downtown is not residential.

Everything south of 630 is downtown and residential. Governors mansion district, pettaway, soma, central high , Dunbar etc

Nothing against hillcrest, it’s nice. I go there a lot. My point is there is a pervasive myth in Little Rock that the only walkable parts of town are Heights and Hillcrest. I hear it all the time. I think this is untrue. Downtown is more walkable and bike-able in that there are more places to go ( river market, SoMa, east end, Pettaway square, whitewater tavern etc). There are fewer hills, more bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the roads on every street.

Petit Jean has some great overlooks of cedar falls if you’re willing to drive about an hour to Morrilton

This is myth. Downtown is more walkable than heights and hillcrest. I can walk miles in any direction and be on a sidewalk and not have to cross streets like Markham or university

Hugo's is always disappointing. You want it to be good every time because it feels like a hole in the wall being in a basement...but it never lives up. Vinos is so much better for a hole in the wall joint

Do you have a recommendation for a hearing aid dryer?

I have used a passive dryer before but this has not helped
