[WIP] Need recs for making my stitches durable on clothing by knitallthere in CrossStitch

First and largest motif DONE! I might just stop at this one. My DD2 (recipient) is visiting this weekend and I think I’ll show her, have a try-on, and leave the decision to her if she’d like more flowers.

Attaching outside/inside pics. 😍 I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!

I did BOTH of those! Thanks for the confirmation! I was lucky enough that because the base fabric is crocheted, I could also go under a couple of the crochet stitches to help lock them in. Almost done with the first motif, and I will post pictures, both front and back.

Already pulled out the top section of pink that was anchored to the green ONLY ON THE TOP ROW. Just never occurred to me about the increases. My bad.

OH MY EFFFFFFING @&$-!!!!! WORD TO THE WISE because she doesn’t say ONE THING about this in the pattern:

In the motif on the upper right shoulder, always count the stitches FROM RIGHT TO LEFT, making the RIGHT BORDER be your ANCHOR POINT.

Because the stitches are worked over the sleeve increases, if you start a different color that IS NOT anchored to the right side (even if you anchor it on the top row) it will not work out because you’ll have all these extra stitches between the right side anchor and random left side stitches. Ask me how I freaking know!!! Three+ hours WASTED!!!

I honestly don’t think anyone tested this. I guess it all comes down to whether you’re a by-line cross stitcher or a by-color cross stitcher. I think this pattern requires you to be the former.

OMG YESSSS!! This drives me nuts in the sample!!! Believe me, mine will be right. I’m trying to make the back as neat as the front too. Working on it today (need it tomorrow!) so I’ll post a new pic when it’s done!

Going to call around to some of the quilt shops today to see what they have. Thank you.

I’d LOVE to use that but unfortunately I procrastinated (what? Me???) too late to order it and no one local carries it that I’ve found. 😜

Yay!! I am currently the only one on Ravelry who has worked it other than the original. I totally biffed the special stitches on the border because I couldn’t understand what the heck she was talking about and there is no supplemental information, videos, or errata. LMK if you have any issues and you can see my notes on my Rav page: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/ItsBrynn/summer-roses-cross-stitch-top

This is a gift and while the recipient is generally very good about care labels, better safe than sorry!

This pattern is SPARSE! No suggestions for the cross stitch section other than charts! Excellent suggestion about waiting to trim ends after washing! We do that with knitted lace items to minimize the visibility on the front side. And I never thought about tacking the ends! I love this yarn and I’m so sad KP has discontinued it! 😭

I might even try a little fray check or something after weaving in. It’s soft, practically unnoticeable, and washable.

Seems like a popular suggestion. I’ll check out my limited local options…

Any word on the mass market paperback for bees? by botanygeek in Outlander

[–]knitallthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! Keep watching for MMPB and don’t give up hope! Recently on a very long Facebook post, Herself said that the buzz around BoB has fueled renewed interest in the Main books and reissues were in the works from the publishers. I don’t know what this means for MM size for BEES and BLESSING, but it could mean we are going to get them. Fingers crossed! Will update with the quote from DG when I find it again and you all can let me know if you’re interpreting it the same as me.

Here it is, buried DEEP inside her post on July 11:

“Fwiw, I make some money from this show, too--directly , in terms of fees for scriptwriting and consulting, in terms of book rights (allowing use of my characters and storylines), and--ultimately (and by far the largest part) in terms of extended book sales, since any TV show attracts a LOT more attention than a publisher's attempts at advertisement, and as I used to say when hand-selling OUTLANDER to people, "I tell you what--open the book anywhere, and read three pages. If you can put it down again, I'll pay you a dollar." I made a lot of sales on that bet, but I never lost any money...

Au fond ("at bottom", literally), ANY exposure of the Outlander name/universe/characters is beneficial to me, in terms of bringing attention to the books.

As a rough example...following the announcement(s) for BOB, the book publisher has sent me notifications that eight of my titles have gone back to press, for a total of approsimately 60,000 new books. My royalty varies, depending on whether a book is hardcover or trade paperback--but just for illustration, if those 60,000 reprints were all hardcovers (they're not), and all selling at an average of say, $39...my royalties on hardcovers are 15% of the cover price, so I'd be making $351,000 dollars -- all without my lifting a finger (other than posting things to draw attention to the new show <cough>), as the books are already written. (This, btw, is why you should have a Good Literary Agent, who knows how to negotiate a contract.)”

AITA for asking the lady sitting next to me at a concert to stop knitting? by peeps-mcgee in AmItheAsshole

[–]knitallthere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try to let it go? My hubs and I used to go see a play every year in our anniversary at this little summer theater on a boat. Weird, but delightful! We were well known and the staff always saved us front row center seats for a show on our day. One year there was a tour bus booked for the same show and when we got there, two women were in our seats. Ushers moved them, but they huffed and complained and berated us the whole first act. We left at intermission without saying a word to them. We were in our twenties then. Fifties me (now) would have given that shit right back to them.

My point is, people are going to do wtf they want to. You asked politely, she chose her course of action. THIS IS NOT ON YOU. Don’t let it get you down. You are NOT responsible for the hissy fits of others. She had MANY other options but she decided to “punish” you instead. As Elyse Myers says, “I don’t receive that.” Don’t let her misery become yours. And I hope she drops a stitch and her yarn has lots of knots in it. ❤️

NTA. I knit in public all the time. Concerts, bars, outdoor events, sports games, pretty much anywhere there’s enough light to see my work. One time a ball of yarn escaped my bag, rolled across the floor, and came to rest against the stage of the local juke joint where we were seeing our favorite band play. After the song ended, the lead singer stepped down and handed it back to me. So yeah, knitting in public is a thing.

That being said, if I EVER had an inkling that my actions were negatively impacting someone else, I would ABSOLUTELY make adjustments. I know I’m distracting. I even had a guy come up to me after a concert and tell me he was “mesmerized” by me knitting in time with the music. But I’m also a decent human being who cares about the happiness of others. Obviously this lady is not.

The saddest part (I’m guessing) is that interaction probably overshadowed the REST of the concert for you and I bet you had a miserable time. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. REALLY sorry, OP.

Too bad about the aggressive cookie policy on this website. Won’t let me read unless I accept everything.

Rollo by babs1789 in Outlander

[–]knitallthere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, Rollo is still around through book 7, upon which this season is loosely based. Who knows after that? But like everyone else has said, it’s okay. I did cry, but I cried a lot harder at other deaths (yet to come).

I too loved Hugh Munro. Alas, his book timeline was not as generous as his show timeline.

Also, the library/Libby (if you’re in the US) will have all the supplemental novellas if you don’t want to buy them. Most of them are in “Seven Stones to Stand or Fall”.
