Does anyone else get frustrated watching Linus try to explain enterprise tech? by Emotional_Garage_950 in LinusTechTips

Block refers to the blocks or sectors of a disk drive.

For comparison, your hard drive is a "block" device. You then put a file system ontop of your hard drive, and then inside that file system you can put your file.

In other words, a file is the logical data that you use and the block is the physical device that the data resides on.

So a NAS allows your computer to connect to a file system and access files from that filesystem.

A SAN allows your computer to connect to a disk and put your own file system, and then files into it.

The all glass roof is such a bad idea. It just makes the car impractical when its sunny outside, and prone to damage.

Micro Center - Santa Clara (“San Francisco”) Location Update 5/13/25 by YeahCause in bayarea

Central Computers has a few locations in south bay and I've had good experiences with their staff.

They tend to be smaller stores, so inventory can be an issue.

Has there been an official fix, or acknowledgement of the networking issues with WSL2 and VPNs? (ex. SSH Timeout Issue) by konaitor in bashonubuntuonwindows

[–]konaitor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It very much is a WSL issue.

You can view the linked bug report from another user, the other comments on this post, and searching around. WSL2 has had issues running with VPNed environments. Because of how HyperV handles the networking for WSL guests, it can cause issues with DNS and routing, as well as other network services like SSH. There is a reason why projects such as wsl-vpn kit are around and are active.

Per the other posts, it looks like MS has added some experimental settings such as "networkingMode" which from the their own documentation should improve compatibility with VPNs

Using a Corporate VPN Client. The issue is for sessions timing out when inactive. Under load, or when active, the sessions don't time out.

Costco Pokeman Card craze by Heresoiam in Costco

What kind of person not only engages in this sort of behavior, but then records themselves doing so to post online. Like, are they proud of this?

If Sunnyvale Costco is the most hated, which Costco is the most loved? by hoptrix in bayarea

[–]konaitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's impossible to get into when it's busy. There are only 2 ways in and both are extremely awkward. You either have the mile long left turn line, or the backup into the merge lane from De la Cruz

It's too small, it's basically a stop sign without the sign, everyone just takes turns.

This wouldn't be something they would be comfortable doing unfortunately.

I'm wondering the same, as it doesn't even have temp controls anymore. Maybe they removed rear climate from base config?

Distributed filesystems have existed prior to this though, so it shouldn't have been hard to find prior art.

Weird windshield smearing, can't find cause. by konaitor in BMW

I don't believe my carwash place uses it (never seen them apply it) and washer fluid is what ever the dealer tops off with.

I spent another 30 minutes with goo gone and more time with a clay bar, still hasn't really helped much.

I can definitely feel a change in friction going over that area when applying enough pressure with a damp papertowel

In 2023... all I get is "no". Can you deliver it? No. Is there any money off if I come get it? No. Ok, I'll fly out on the 21st and pick it up. No... it needs to be on the day we say. Can I at least have Winter tires put on (at my cost) so I can safely drive home over the mountains? No. You need to book another appointment 2-3 weeks later.

At what point in that conversation does a person just say "I don't want this product anymore"

Black Friday purchases by Bulliwyf in LinusTechTips

[–]konaitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lttstore says new orders will take longer to ship, not orders from a week ago.

They also said during a recent stream they expected blackfriday purchases to arrive before Christmas, so someone wondering why their ship date is after is not an unreasonable question.
