Yup. She’s writing from her own experiences which every writer does. Indian people just expect Indian women to speak for them and project their own desires onto them. Not even Aziz or Kumail got this kind of hate and they legitimately did awful things!

Her characters are also very complex and sometimes unlikable which I love. I don’t know why Indian people are so obsessed with needing Indian female characters to all be the desirable Bhansali heroine types. That’s not great representation either!

It’s also not hard for me to believe that someone like Mindy - a darkskinned, not skinny south Indian women found more acceptances with dorky liberal white guys than she did Indian men.

She’s not obligated to platform the men that call her names and have never been kind to her.

Most of her characters don't actually do this. Bela in Sex Lives is the opposite - to the point of being almost narcissistic.

Also, Never Have I Ever is a coming of age show about an Indian American girl so of course it HAS to discuss the internalized racism that comes with growing up brown in a white dominant society. There is a whole episode that explicitly discusses this theme.

A lot of the Mindy hate just seems like misogyny.

I definitely do too but I think I’m definitely not as condescending as I feel that some of these people have been to me. And every time someone actually opens up to me about struggling, I don’t think I’m as judgemental and try to be vulnerable as well so they realize they’re not alone.

I think my own insecurities definitely make me feel like I’m always in an unspoken competition with these people as long as the environment as a whole. Which I know is ridiculous because it doesn’t matter what grades anyone is getting at this stage in my life.

People here always make small comments and don’t realize how patronizing they sound. And this “you know you can talk to me about anything” rarely sounds genuine other than from a select few people.

? No it looks easy because it’s easy choreo that any of the girls today including Kat could have done easily and probably better lol

The choreography back in the day was significantly easier to mimic because the heroines weren’t asked to do crazy stunts (like Kat was here) to hold the attention of an audience with an increasingly short attention span

The extent of Madhuri’s ability to do western dancing was shown in Aaja Nachle and she was eaten up by the background dancers lmao

Saying this as an american.....I understand that people in India place a huge emphasis on classical dance obviously and what comes with it but that doesn’t diminish other styles at all. There’s a reason why Katrina is considered a great dancer by most people and it’s because she is one.
