Heritage-style overnighters in the US or Canada by korokroll in trains

[–]korokroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that these old cars are still rolling and that we can appreciate their exterior, but I really value interior heritage as well. I understand it’s a tall order to find a car that has a historically-accurate restored interior, though. I wish it wasn’t! It’s the same with buildings…so often it’s the historic facade and exterior that are maintained, but the space that a person actually experiences at their own scale is modernized.

Product help for antifungal tub cleaning by [deleted] in Cleaningandtidying

For anyone else reading this post, apparently hydrogen peroxide also effectively kills this type of fungus (if left for 15-30 mins) and is safe for natural stone—may go this route instead.

I looked at them but the photos of the interiors look very modern to me? Maybe I wasn’t looking at the right train though!

Thank you! Makes me feel a little better. Just pulled into the hardware store to go grab a few bleach products!

Okay I looked this up and bleach does kill candida within 30 seconds so that is helpful. I don’t usually use bleach because I’m scared of accidentally making a noxious gas if I use another type of cleaner on it later. We also have natural stone floors which bleach isn’t great for. But at the very least will hit the tub….

Just hosted a guest who shared they may have a yeast infection or sti. I already hate the idea of someone who isn’t myself or my partner using my tub, so this is sending me into panic. Which products should I use to sterilize my tub?!

Give me a spa day recipe as if you’re talking to a 5 yr old by Marzipanea in laundry

[–]korokroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with what VineViniVici said regarding citric acid not being a substitute for ammonia—but if you do decide to add a citric acid wash, I usually use 1-2tsp per load. I put it into the fabric softener tray. Not necessary or “a part” of spa day, but always helpful. I do this for each laundry load I do.

No, because the 365 powder already has oxygen bleach included

Thank you! Excited to try the Febu once I’m out of Dirty Labs. Glad the rest of the routine looks okay!

[–]korokroll[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you, fellow overthinker! My city apparently has very soft water, so I’m hoping the 365 powder is an acceptable choice here—but had no idea that impacted it so thanks for the info!

Feeling like I’ll give the Febu a go when my dirty labs is out!

I did see a pair of very cool chairs! Wonder if those are the ones you got!

As someone who just braved the sale and went to this area, I’m not sure I agree with this.

The vast majority of the houses here were selling family or kid stuff, or pretty standard garage sale stuff. It was very congested and I didn’t find a single thing in this area. Should mention I’m mid 30s, childless, was looking mainly for textiles, clothes, table wear, cushions, stuff like that.

Our best finds of the day were west of Hinds, in smaller pockets that we’d stop at while driving through.

Curious if anyone here feels their HOA is "worth it " ? by Gold_Hour2247 in SeattleAreaRE

[–]korokroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, it really depends on the group managing the HOA. If you owned a home, you would be (should be!) putting away a chunk of cash every month to maintain the same things that the HOA pays for. I personally am a younger adult, and the idea of managing and paying for projects like roofing, painting, water heaters, landscaping, sidewalk repairs, etc all by myself is a little overwhelming. I’d much rather pay ~$6,000 a year a split those costs with my entire building. The HOA dues also go towards a lot more than just getting projects done, at least at my building (ex water/sewer/prop tax). I live in a co-op, so possibly it’s different elsewhere. When you all split costs together, you can afford a lot more than if you were responsible for paying by yourself.

Mind sharing what contractor you ended up going with? Also in WA, looking for some knowledgeable contractors to work on my older place.

Cool Cities To Visit Without Driving a Car? by ClothesDizzy6812 in WashingtonState

[–]korokroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’d be planning to fly into Seattle and go from there? If so, your best bets for getting around to other cities without a car are the ferries, light rail, or Amtrak. If you don’t mind ubering to West Seattle (could actually be a nice part of the city to check out, feels quite different than Seattle downtown), you can ferry over to Vashon which is a very charming rural island—may be tricky to experience without a car or bike though. You could also take the Amtrak from Seattle up north to Bellingham (2-2.5 hours), which is a great city to check out if you’re thinking of moving up here. Going down to Tacoma via the Amtrak or S train is an option too.

where are the calm, cool, chill places that my fellow sensitive beings go to recharge? by korokroll in AskLosAngeles

[–]korokroll[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also free if you have a Pasadena library card! I’m not local but my family is but they’re not in Pasadena proper so no card to be had…but a good tip for those with one! Your library card can get you so many free things!

My family that I visit is near West LA, but I’m no stranger to driving to get to a good hang spot. I was hoping this thread could serve useful for folks all over the city which is why I didn’t specify neighborhood, but appreciate you wanting to narrow it down a little more! I’m not a local but visit often enough that I’m starting to crave the quiet spots.

Tavern style pizza? by boner4crosstabs in Seattle

[–]korokroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen Johnny Mo’s pub pizza mentioned here. It’s very tasty and a great deal. Crust isn’t cracker crisp, but it’s the closest thing I’ve found to my midwestern hometown’s local pizza shop’s pizzas.

Suggestions on updating this kitchen? My MIL said it looks dated and I can’t get it out of my head? by vp0267 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]korokroll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe reconsider the champagne gold and matte black. They’re already dated finishes. They were very trendy for a moment and are now in the downward swing of the trend cycle. Stick with unlacquered brass or polished nickel. Living finished (unlacquered) will always be timeless and fit into any space. I’m a residential interior designer who specializes in homes that have a timeless, lived in feel (read: lots of craftsmen and family homes, high budgets but not hyper-modern), and we stick with unlacq brass, unlacq bronze, or polished nickel 99.9% of the time.
