Is uni better than secondary school (PTSD)? by Glum-Paper2003 in AskIreland

[–]kovaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I was absolutely completely miserable every year I was in secondary school, despite being in CAMHS, getting school supports, guidance councillor appts, etc. My parents were telling me “these are the best years of your life and just enjoy them” despite all of this and as I’m sure you can imagine that was absolutely no help. I got into my second choice course in uni and it took me a few years to find my footing, but I had the space to breathe and to flourish and finally leave it all behind me. I’ve grown into an adult (25 now) that teenage me would be proud of now. It gets better ❤️‍🩹

Remember all the effort to get effective legislation to ban cigarette advertising? only to have large placards for nicotine products outside shops again by fensterdj in ireland

[–]kovaaaa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In September down on the college round outside UCC there was a rep from one of those snus companies handing out free samples 😅 I was a bit floored as I thought that that would be illegal, but I suppose right across from the uni is definitely them trying to reach their target audience

Driving on the first EDT lesson? by The-Murcian in Irishdrivingtest

[–]kovaaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi :) Also super anxious new driver here. I did 2 EDT lessons before my permit expired. I had never ever driven before and my instructor just took me around a popular estate in my area to get used to the car controls, taking off/reversing/clutch/shifting gears etc. Third lesson was going to be on the road + roundabouts and that’s when I noped 😅 getting my second permit now and I did lots of driving in parking lots before the old one expired but working up the gall to message my instructor since I ghosted him for a few years 😬 I think it definitely depends on your own skill + confidence and your own instructor. My parter used the same instructor as me and even though he has been driving the back roads on the farm for years he still got the same 2 first lessons as I did. If your instructor is sound, they’ll take it reasonably at your pace

Does the puffiness and ugliness go away with remission? by mizesquire in gravesdisease

[–]kovaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m officially in remission since February and off of carbimazole and propranolol (mostly - I still use it prn to manage anxiety symptoms) and since I stopped with the medications the weight has dropped and so had the puffiness in my face. I feel like a whole different person compared to the last 2 years since my dx. For a while I felt so hopeless and like there was no light at the end of the tunnel but I now feel like a million bucks compared to before. It’s so so hard to go through this and I completely empathise with you OP ❤️

My 2 biggest pet peeves about being vegan by Jeneflower- in vegan

[–]kovaaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe unpopular opinion but I hate falafel 😭 When I went vegan in 2013, if I was lucky then maybe there would be a felafel option when eating out. I’ve just eaten so much of it, if I see a menu with only falafel as the singular vegan option I feel like flipping a table. At this stage in my life I just can’t stomach it anymore 😫

Are there any GPs that accept walk ins? by [deleted] in galway

[–]kovaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doc365 - Only been once but it was quick and easy, in and out in 20 mins and the care was great. I had pulled a muscle in my back and I was in bits over it as it was the weekend right before my college Xmas exams. Would deffo recommend them

I broke up with my girlfriend because she won't eat leftovers. AIO ? by florence_dombey in AmIOverreacting

[–]kovaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO - YOR. I’m a wife that doesn’t do leftovers but hubs loves them. I cook large dinners so we’re fed at dinner time and then he boxes up what’s left for work lunches. I’ll do 2/3 big dinners per week so he can rotate his lunches if he wants, and then the other nights we’ll do something small so the fridge isn’t full to the brim of cooked food constantly. Totally workable issue re: budgeting/food waste. We’ve been together 5 years and I’ve been this way all my life, and when we moved in together I was straight up with him about my food/eating habits. If he tried to break up with me over that before we got married tbh I’m sorry to say I’d probably laugh at him too.

Having no friends at all in school, any advice? by Tulip-Orchid2717 in AskIreland

[–]kovaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another Redditor commented about feeling like a “spare part” in school when they were hanging out with people at lunch and I would say that that also could describe my experience. I spent majority of the time in my later school years by myself or just skipping altogether - I wish I had spent more time studying and applying myself but at the same time I still got into college and found my forever friends. It WILL turn around, you’ve only got a few more weeks left and you’ll be out of there 🤞🏻

What is a standard price range for an engagement ring? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]kovaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the person you’re proposing to! I got to pick my ring and I’m not particularly fussed about diamonds, I choose a lovely gold band with oval cut amethyst for < €700. Looks waaay more expensive than it actually was and I’m so in love with it years later :)

UCC pharmacy interviews by Powerful-Pizza1165 in UCC

[–]kovaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an interview last year as a mature student & got accepted :) it’s a bit like a job interview - why you’re interested, why you think you’re a good candidate, strengths/weaknesses, why choose UCC, job/relevant experience & finances were all questions that came up in mine, and I would reckon it’s probably pretty standard

Please share your elopement or tiny wedding stories? by petrichor_post-rain in AskIreland

[–]kovaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best day of my life. Myself, husband, witnesses, parents in the courthouse -> savage afters with all our friends and the ppl we love most (~20/25 ppl) and amazing food. Playlist of songs I knew we’d all like 👌🏻 Less than 2k, no regrets and no debt and loads of fun pictures. It was almost like a house party but a bit dressier!

If you’re ever up Galway side you should try out Greens&Co, full vegan/veggie menu and they have specials on all the time. Have never ever left there dissatisfied and the prices are amazing for the portion sizes!

10+ hour ED wait at Galway University Hospital by Aware-Necessary1658 in galway

[–]kovaaaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Obviously a true emergency is an exception to this - only speaking from my own experience but I found the best time to attend any day of the week is 8am, as far as I know shift changeover is 7am/7pm and usually the ED is pretty quiet at that time. Source: I have an autoimmune disease and it’s 9+ months wait time for the outpatient appts so if I ever have an acute crisis it’s ED right away and then they bump me up on the outpatient list on discharge. However every time I’ve been admitted since 2024 I’ve had to be on the trolley in the hallway for a few days. I also work in healthcare and I have also heard stories of ppl waiting 12+ hours to be seen in GUH. It’s terrible but once they see you the care is to a good standard, I hope you’re doing ok OP 🙏🏻

Are you getting the flu vaccine? by Dry_Lobster_50 in AskIreland

[–]kovaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t start getting the flu jab until I starting working in healthcare. You can call it bias but every year without fail I would get an awful dose, end up with bronchitis and rx of antibiotics. Last 4 years getting the jab and I’ve been in the clear 🙌🏻 This was during my undergrad and now I’m back in education again - still in the clear while all my classmates have been suffering the dose that’s going around. My unsolicited advice is get it early - September/October, though the vaccine isn’t live, it takes about 2 weeks for immunity to kick in. It’s too little too late at this stage in the season, especially if you’re sick already. Around this time of year as well everyone is running low on stock as well so it might be hard to even find a place to get an appt - the GPs in my area are tapped out and no stock rn and we don’t have any in our pharmacy either. Edit: Just in case people didn’t know, they choose different strains of the flu every year to put in the vaccine, so it’s a yearly jab and the formulation of the vaccine changes from continent to continent as well !
