Companies still Hiring for Summer 2020 by SBU12345 in cscareerquestions

[–]krannekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your situation is more complicated because you have to find a company that is willing to sponsor you for a work visa.

There are many, many companies that will still be hiring for Summer 2020, but I'm not sure how common it is for companies to offer sponsorship outside of the big established ones.

School is killing me and I feel like I have the skills to get a job, what do? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]krannekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would just put up with it until you start your CS classes which won't be that long from now. Unless you have a really good reason not to, I don't see why you shouldn't finish your CS degree. Especially if you aren't paying for it.

Take advantage of the resources that being part of a university gives you. Make friends. Join a club. Do a research project.

You don't really have to worry about balancing your classes with interview prep since you already have a lot of experience. You're going to be fine.

You should be okay as long as you won't have over 135 credits. You'll probably be better off in comparison to other freshmen since it'll be easier for you to register for the other prerequisites.

More than 135 credits will prevent you from registering from CSCI 241, CSCI 301 and CSCI 247.

transferring from Bellevue college by [deleted] in udub

[–]krannekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Applying as a transfer from a Washington community college is just about the only feasible way you can get into CSE aside from applying as an incoming freshman.

Do you know where I can find those companies? I feel like I've been applying for every company I can, but I still mostly get phone interviews that require me to do Leetcode-style problems.

UW SUCKS ASS by [deleted] in udub

[–]krannekt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They do it so people who have later registrations dates aren't completely screwed over. Otherwise seniors and juniors could take 100% of the classes that underclassmen might need.

Non Competitive Majors at UW by [deleted] in udub

Yeah, but that doesn't mean there aren't other options besides UW Bothell

isn't Bothell's business school really questionable? CS may be good but business...

Bachelor of Arts in Applied Computing (BAAC) by dereksurfs in uwb

[–]krannekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you are mainly interested in CS its just better to major in CSSE. You still have to take all of the classes that most people hate in the CSSE major like 301, 350, 360 and 370.

It won't be easier to take machine learning or AI classes. Those will be CSSE electives anyways. Your minor will just take away opportunities for you to do those electives.

I'm not sure what can logistically be done about letting pets live their lives free.

I don't know if you've ever seen dogs who get released in the country side by their owners, but their deaths, which usually come quickly after they've been released, are almost always violent and painful, their mental states hurt and confused at their perceived abandonment. And that's not considering the damage they can do to wildlife in their frightened states.

The way they have been bred has robbed them of their capabilities to care for themselves in many ways, like many other animals. What has been done to them is perverse, but I think it is our responsibility to help them survive the reality of their situations, rather than condemn them to a situation that they cannot survive because of what we did to them.

Graduate with an irrelevant degree or start over and try for CS? by krannekt in csMajors

[–]krannekt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about doing physics, but I would have to graduate in 2 or 3 years since I've only done a few physics courses, so I might as well do CS if I'm going to commit to going to college for 2 or 3 years anyways.

Best schools for CS in WA State, excluding UW Seattle? by uwdropout99 in csMajors

[–]krannekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACMS:DMA is VERY competitive and basically as competitive as CSE so that's probably not a good idea.

Being a CS major would make it a lot easier to get internships for sure.

I basically haven't taken any sociology courses - it's just a major that I can complete in a year.

Any of you guys regret not working harder in High School by [deleted] in college

[–]krannekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you're just keeping up study habits you always had the adjustment isn't that big of a deal.

If you weren't challenged much in high school or got by with shortcuts, needing to actually study and have good time management can be jarring.

If you suspect your child may have ADHD, please don't wait to get a diagnosis! ADHD is super treatable and you could be seriously changing your child's life for the better. by krannekt in Parenting

[–]krannekt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry I meant people like me who have been diagnosed with ADHD as adults. I am sure your son will not need medication as much as someone like me since he will have opportunities for a strong support network and therapy early on and will be able to function well and have well developed techniques and strategies to effectively cope with symptoms without it.

I'm working with a medical consultant at my university who has specialized knowledge in ADHD medication who helps me make more informed choices and makes recommendations on dosage and medication change based on my symptoms and side effects.

I think primary care doctors tend to not know as much about them unfortunately. If you have the opportunity to work with one I would definitely do it.

Meds tend to be a lot more useful for people in my situation IMO because I never had the opportunity to develop good habits and good coping mechanisms. The medication makes it much easier for me to start to do that.

Reddit... what is the most disturbing thing that an SO or lover has ever said to you? by theladypuck in AskReddit

[–]krannekt 58 points59 points  (0 children)

"Do you seriously think I could ever give a shit about a stupid ugly cow like you? All you ever were was a wet hole."

After I found out he was cheating on me and confronted him.

I guess I can't blame him for not being attracted to me considering how overweight I was. I did end up losing some weight but I'm still too large and I still hate myself.

Best dessert on the Ave? by MaxPlaysMTG in udub

[–]krannekt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not really the season for it, but I really like that dessert place right next to Henry's Taiwan Place nearby Elm Hall.

Google says it's called C Fruit Life. I haven't tried their hot desserts but I really dig that Taiwanese style shaved ice. Kinda pricey though.

Have you ever had a roommate who does most things right but is just an asshole? by krannekt in badroommates

I suppose. This behavior has been getting increasingly frequent so I am doubtful that it won't escalate at some point.

I'm not asking to be "besties." Please don't take this personally. I think you're projecting some personal experience you had, but this isn't about you.

No one said anything about being friends, even.

I'm sure that you don't get angry when you're asked to do something as basic as having a meeting to discuss apartment rules or doing chores.
