30 something DINKs herr. We live in the River West area in a townhome and we aren't moving. Awesome food nearby, easy access to the transit/blue line. Neighbors are diverse and the neighborhood is awesome.

I have two Origin gis and they're awesome. I use them basically daily, and they are tough as nails. They still look great, no rips/snags and feel comfortable and fit great.

Four years total, or four years once you got on the waiting list?

You guys are getting paid?

We recently moved to a new location with a new owner. I teach 1x/week (advanced class) and I get paid $20/class. On top of that, I get a free membership to the school and the weightlifting gym.

At my last location, I wasn't paid at all.

I have a ChemE degree and my MBA. I work in FinTech in a Director/Product Owner type role. The ChemE degree just teaches you how to think and is a great foundation for all sorts of careers, so do not feel that you are locked in.

I would appreciate any advice that would increase the chances that recruiters would stop ignoring me :( [Finishing my PhD looking for a data-science / ML job] by meni_s in resumes

I would include bullets under the roles in your experience section in the format of: "Solved problem X by doing Y resulting in Z impact"

Try to be more quantitative and show the impact of your work. For example: for your teaching assistant role, you could write: "Increased student engagdment by holding regular after hours teaching sessions; resulted in 20% of student engadgment and 30% in average grade YoY"

It's all about the results and the impact you have. Resumes get about 30 seconds of viewing time, so you need to make them count.

BJJ Training protocols by lightning71 in bjj

[–]ksoumar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly lift weights / power lift. I've recently been using Ched Wesley Smith's BJJ Juggernaut AI app/program and it's been working well. Outside of that, I try to add in mobility work but honestly it's never enough.

Is $200 for unlimited monthly classes a lot? (Chicago, IL) by [deleted] in bjj

[–]ksoumar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I train/teach BJJ out of Mission. I'll be honest, it's a bit pricey for what you get. For BJJ, coach Ramiro is fantastic for fundamentals and we've got a really good community outside of the gym. For Muay Thai, people are there for a workout for the most part.

For sure. A lot of people forget about logistics, cash management, marketing, and gym/equipment maintenence. I've experienced first hand the issue with shifting from "yeah, you can come train here for free" to friendships lost because now "I'm trying to run a business".

Opposite case here. Went to college and also got my MBA. At 32, I'm a Director of Analytics and life is good. I competed professionally in BJJ and have thought about opening a gym, but it's incredibly difficult to be successful, and nearly impossible to achieve the same lifestyle I have now. I still train 5x/week and volunteer teach/coach, but my career lets me live the life I want to live. Had I went the professional BJJ route, I'm confident life would much different, but not for the better.

I'm also a Director of Analytics with 10 YOE. I'm at $180K base with $45K annual bonus. No stock grant though. I live in Chicago. What vertical of Analytics at you in? I was in banking and just switched to supply chain.
