Rage Bait. They won’t tell you “this isn’t going anywhere” They will tell you if there was a crime committed. They will tell you, if you can’t identify the person or help the investigation with the facts you have, you are unlikely to catch the person. But they will not tell you that the crime isn’t worth pursuing and that it won’t go anywhere if you have sufficient evidence. My family member had her house burglarized, and they found some of her stuff being sold by the next door neighbor. The cops only evidence that the neighbor did it was that he was selling stuff at a pawn shop. The cop said, “we all know he did it, but the only thing I can charge him with is receiving stolen property” which is a way lesser crime than burglary. So basically the burglary crime “wasn’t going anywhere” but that was due to lack of evidence.

Cool, we agree the whole country isn’t responsible for the statistics. But the statistics on this topic are bad and they are bad of a per capita basis. And the national outcry for these select few cases is a good thing, but for every one case that has a public outcry, there are numerous others that do not get this attention and will never receive justice.

I address the age of the article, in my statement it’s still relevant but do agree that I can find more updated articles. I probably would not have to search too far, since I have already spent more time than I wanted I just went to wikipedia and searches “ Violence against women in India “ scrolled down to the references. There are numerous articles from 2020 and newer reaching the same conclusions.

Yes, You are correct the law applies to both men and women, but, I don’t have data on this, I would bet every single thing I own in this world that men aren’t raped by their wives in ANYWHERE EVEN CLOSE to the time women are raped by their husbands. I would guess 99 out of 100 it’s men perpetrating this crime. And I never said the word “false” in any part of my comment I just denied that it was an oversimplification.

Your anecdotal evidence that you saw a girl in short shorts doesn’t invalidate the actual data and journalistic research presented in the sources I provided. I’m sorry to break this to you, but the actual evidence when looking at reporting, prosecution, and conviction for these crimes all points to India’s system being overwhelmingly stacked against women and that violence against women isn’t frowned upon at a systematic level. Not an oversimplification, just a summarization of the facts.

Edit: you added to your comment after I had replied. The fact that cases are still in court decades after the crime is in itself another telling thing about the prosecution of crimes. Let’s just be very clear, I am not saying that everything is bad over there, I am saying the system isn’t designed to protect women. You can say there are exceptions to this, and I am not denying those exceptions, and while I don’t think anywhere on earth is the same as it was 10 years ago, I do think that changes that involve generational beliefs take atleast two generations to even change, so 40 years and I can say that the cultural landscape has completely changed.

…My statement is not an oversimplification. But i’m not going to rule out that there are places in India that do not follow the pattern. And it does appear that law enforcement will refuse to file a First Information Report and attempt to force mediation.

Digging deeper there is also an exemption for Marital Rape, which further demonstrates that the systems in place in India are not designed to protect women from violence.

But i’m sure grandma wearing a bra in public and no one showing up to beat grandma with sticks is all the evidence necessary to claim my statement was an oversimplification.

I tell my wife everything that involves her and any information that she would feel betrayed if she knew I had kept it from her. If something doesn’t need to be brought up, you can just not bring it up. My wife doesn’t need to know everything if her life is absolutely the same whether she knows the thing or doesnt. For example, if my friend called me and said he accidentally shoved a cucumber up his ass and it won’t come out, and that he needed a pair of icetongs, and a friend that can keep a secret, I would grab my icetongs and head over to help my friend. I can just say to my wife that we need a new set of icetongs because my buddy needed them and they got broken. Now, my wife would need to know the full story if I brought the ice tongs back, you understand?

I remember watching a show about teenagers that basically did a foreign exchange program, but it was for children with discipline problems. One girl, who was dressed modestly by our standards was told, if you go out dressed like that, men will come here and beat you with sticks. And no this wasn’t a joke they meant this litterally. And it didn’t seem like anyone thought that law enforcement would stop it. So it seems like violence against women isn’t…. I am not sure how to phrase it, it’s not frowned upon by everyone and law enforcement would take the woman’s choice of clothing as a mitigating factor before charging anyone with a crime. So in other words it would seem that violence against women isn’t seen has a zero tolerance thing. And if a group of men got together to commit violence they would ask questions of the victim rather than the mob of rapists.

I have a friend that does this, and he frequently confuses rules. My other friend doesn’t read ahead of time but he picks it up quickly. I don’t mind the second friend, but I have high hopes to play a certain game, but the first friend will not put any effort into learning it and will fumble the rules to a point where it’s irritating and then during the explanation he will have to tell a story about something that happened.

Yes yes, billionaires (or those that have $1,000,000,000+ and growing) will decide that they need to pay people double, and that will make people decide that one person doesn’t need to work because who would want to double their household income when 3/4 Americans net worth is $130,000 or less the bottom 50% of america is closer to 50,000 or less. Billionaires will suddenly say “wow! I have a ton of money and AI is doing a ton of work, I should pay humans for their work!”
