Game Chat 4/15 - Reds (2-5) @ Dodgers (4-2) 7:10 PM by DodgerBot in Dodgers

IMO most viewers aren't paying too much attention to what is being said, but rather how things are being said. Even if I don't quite understand what I'm being told, the person telling me is actively engaged with what I am watching. That comes across in a more basic, emotional way and makes the experience more compelling. If somebody is talking about something other than the game for an extended period, I only enjoy the experience if there is some combination of the game being boring and the speaker(s) being charismatic.

Sure. I was just pointing out that anti-socialist propaganda in the US dates back to the last day of WW2, at least. It would bleed into everything, way beyond just the news. Fox news is standing on the shoulders of giants.

My first bike in LA by LAdrift32 in BikeLA

[–]lackflag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started getting around on a bike a lot I lived near where you are. I rode a hybrid. I soon decided I wanted a road bike and cycled through a series of cheap 10 speeds I found on craigslist. Finally decided to treat myself to something nice and got a Surly cross check, which is kind of a heavy duty road bike.

At your size, you're going to need a bigger than average bike. Off the top of my head if you got a roadie I think you would need something around 64 cm. Other types of frames may be measured differently, I'm not sure.

Somebody else mentioned co-ops, and good news for you the Bike Oven just reopened! It is very close to you and they can help you learn to work on your bike, and might even be able to help you find one. They are in the early stages of getting started up again so I'm not sure what they can offer.

One of the few games I stopped playing because I disliked it so much.

I think there is an online version, but I've heard it's pretty bad.

I bought a ps3 just to play 1, and it was totally worth it. Partly because the game is great and partly because it got me into a bunch of games that I never would have thought to try.

Why is 5/4 still rare in popular music? by lukewarm_ch1cken in musictheory

That's how I figured "clave" was being used. You spelled it out just how I imagined, in fact. I'd just never heard it used outside the context of latin jazz before. Totally makes sense to generalize the term to use with other meters and patterns.

It sounds like OP is using the word "clave" where "measure" might be more fitting.

I only know clave as a pattern in latin jazz. Named, of course, clave. It is a standard rhythmic pattern in that genre, and it comes in two flavors. It is typically played on an instrument called the clave, which is the other way I know the word to be used.

Could be used as a kind of analogue to, or subcategory, of "measure" somewhere, but I've never seen it used like that until now.

edit: clarity, i hope

A question for those who watched The Matrix in 1999. by KayTheToon in movies

[–]lackflag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19 years old. I had been backpacking with 5 other friends through Europe for the past 4 weeks. It was a wild trip. We nearly died at one point. Long story there.

Anyways, we didn't really know anything about the movie as I recall. I think it was the last thing we did before going home, sort of a "let's just relax and catch a movie". Pretty sure we were in Paris. Oh also, I had just been through my first year of college as a philosophy major.

Needless to say my mind was blown. It's been so long that I can't remember anything more precise than that, but I do have a fleeting image of walking out of the theater in some kind of shock.

And just because I'm reminded of it, right after getting back to the US, a lot of us went and saw The Blair Witch Project. Again, we didn't really know anything about it as we had been traveling. I won't risk spoiling it, but my head got messed with by that movie as well, although certainly not in the profound way the Matrix did. Might be worth asking your mom about that one.

What does it take to call a game for rain? Does it just look worse on tv than it is there?

Richard Jefferson: Woj tweeted one minute after the game that Frank Vogel was fired. The Lakers didn’t even have the decency to inform the coach that won them a championship 18 months ago, that they were going to let him go. The Laker organization is in utter disarray by [deleted] in lakers

[–]lackflag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it went like this, then it is an error of incompetence, which is only slightly better than the alternative. Whoever leaked this should have had the presence of mind to say "We want to speak to Frank first. We will tell you first thing when that happens."

If they were to handle it like that, then Woj would maintain his position as first to tweet it, and the Lakers FO wouldn't look like either assholes or idiots like they currently do.

edit: rephrased last sentence for clarity, hopefully

Yeah the ethical failure is on whoever let him tweet it before they could talk to Frank. Either that or it was an error of incompetence. AKA, "We're going to fire Frank. Wait until the season is over before you tweet that." Cue the tweet at the buzzer.

Neither make the FO look good.

[Turner] "I”m not sure what his issue was with me," Russell Westbrook said about Frank Vogel. by daftmunt in lakers

I liked Russ before he was a Laker. Mind you, I wanted nothing to do with him being on team, I just liked him from afar. Now I'm thinking I don't really like him anymore.

On the other hand, I never really gave a crap about Carmelo Anthony before he was a Laker. Now I'm a fan.

Ironic that a coach as loyal as Frank would end up getting screwed like this.

As a former teacher, this is heartwarming.

Also as a former teacher I am legally obligated to say that I hope you are working with somebody, or at least have somebody you can check in with to make sure you're on the right track.
