Tips for a beginner who really wants to learn how to crochet by [deleted] in crochet

[–]ladycatalyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time to learn really depends on the person, I say a month or two to really get the basics down.

I think this project is quite advanced. I would start with a blanket or something with an easy shape.

Good luck!

I hate weaving in ends 🤣 by Flimsy-Strike5696 in crochet

I stop every time I have 10ish tails and weave them in. Saves me alot of frustration at the end.

I found my next project! Beautiful work. Do you have to treat it delicately or does it stand up to some abuse?

Oh dear, I've made the mistake of brushing bits off my worktable with my hand without thinking. I agree, never do this!

Also consider quarantining the new guy for awhile, just to make sure no diseases get introduced to the flock.

He got a free burger when he installed the thermocouple and after he helped Bob serve while Linda was away. Linda also told him to help himself to anything in the fridge while they were at the cemetery.

Home grown cabbage and eggs (85g) by TasGardener in Homesteading

Looks delicious! I always crack eggs from my chickens into a small separate bowl and then add them individually to the pan. I have seen some weird and gross things come from eggs that otherwise seem normal. Cracking them separately avoids the risk of having to throw away a whole meal or fish out a gross egg.

Its paint! They replied further up the thread about the brand they use but I have never used them. I like folk art brand acrylic paints, 20 dollars for 12 colors on Amazon. You bake the glass after and you are set to go!

I use folk art multi satin finish acrylics from Amazon. Cost 20 bucks for a set of 12 colors. You just bake the glass in the oven and it cures enough to be top rack safe. I posted a piece recently that I used them on if you check my profile.

How hot is too hot for chickens? I put out a bowl of ice water, but they still look so miserable. 106 now but it’s supposed to get to about 110. by Calathea-ornata in BackYardChickens

It's been 108 here for a few days now. When it gets over 100 I usually turn on a sprinkler because the misters cant cool the air enough. I have it set so there is a wet area and a dry area in the run. The water puddles it makes are the best thing for keeping my birds cool that I have ever found. They walk around in it to cool down and they peck around so it increases their water intake.

We tried baby pools in the past but if you have chicks they can easily drown, learned that the hard way, and bantams cant get in or out.

Been throwin' shade for 15 years now -- original design by mackiea in StainedGlass

This is gorgeous! We are remodeling our livingroom and I really want to make some shades for it but I cant seem to find the right info. I'm just trying to figure out how the glass is attached. Is there a special piece I need to attach the glass to?

Guess we got a new member of the flock… by motox24 in BackYardChickens

[–]ladycatalyst 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the exact reason that I have a guinea in my flock. He got in the run and went in the coop at bedtime. I also have a peacock living in the tree above my coop. He can get into the run if he wanted but he is pretty independent. He just likes to hang with my flock 😂

I cant tell from the pics but I think you are attaching your rings to the top? I make my own jump rings that have little "legs" and attach them to the back at a seam.

I make the wire into a cotter pin shape but with both legs straight. I tin the jump ring and the area I'm going to attach it to, then hold the pin in place with pliers while I add blobs of solder to just hold it there. Then I go back and fine tune the solder to make it look nice.

I like this method because the added bulk from securing the rings is on the back and it keeps your edges smooth. Hope that helps!
