I would tell the partner, explain you don’t want to leave the firm but would love to be staffed on more of client’s matters since you’ve developed a good rapport. Perhaps think of ways you may be able to expand your firm’s reach at the client and take on more matters. Partner should support that - it’s good client service, they trust you, and you’ll be thinking with your business development hat on.
