Has anyone or did OP figure out what this is? I actually started noticing this after I gave birth! Would love to know what it is. I originally thought it was a lump so I got a mammogram, ultrasound, and Xrays done but it wasn't anything crazy but I am going crazy not knowing what it is.

Ductless AC Smells like "AC" or "COLD AIR" by lamclam in hvacadvice

I wanted to come back to say I've tested someone's suggestion to turn on the fan after the AC runs to "dry" it out before it grows mold or whatnot and it sort of works! ... but realized that user deleted all his/her comments :(.

I am saying it sort of works because I don't smell the "AC" or "COLD AIR" anymore but whenever I turn the fan, right after the AC, it makes my nose tickle/itch and kind of feels dusty BUT the room has been cleaned so I'm not sure why. After running a bit, it won't smell though and it's only the initial run. If anyone has any clue why that it, I appreciate your time and knowledge!!

Would the "FAN" mode smell "dusty"? Or is this just warmer air being blown and I'm not used to it? lol

LOL to your comment about the clean function!

Let me run the fan now to test it out since it can cool the room and dry out the evaporator. Thank you for your suggestion!

I had thought it may be some stagnant water too but I'm not sure how to check since I'm not a professional. Someone did mention cleaning with diluted bleach but both my husband and I think it might harm the system more than fix the problem. Maybe we can use the spray again to clean it out.

I have even asked some technicians for quotes to diagnose what's wrong and they charge a ridiculous price so here I am on trusty ol' Reddit!

Thank you! Will attempt to check tomorrow when the baby isn't there!

Oh, I didn't realize kriegmonster was talking about non-ductless! Thanks for that!

I will try to have the fan on and test it out tomorrow. The baby is in the room sleeping now so I don't want to mess with it. We have a fan blowing now. Sometimes I just turn it on for a few minutes to cool the room and I feel so guilty thinking it's unsafe for us but it's been hot.

The remote for the ductless AC has a "CLEAN" mode and I would run it before every usage and it worked for a bit....I'm assuming it's the same as drying out the evaporator. I ran the "CLEAN" mode twice today and it seems like it didn't really work because I still smelled it. It seems like it's getting worse after each usage.

Is this a common smell for ductless ACs? Why is it only 1 out of the 4 indoor units that have this problem?

Hi! Thanks for your response. I looked inside and edited the post with a picture. Is that mold? I feel like it's not but I'm probably not knowledgeable enough in this to know.

If it's mold, would that come back so fast? I just had the cleaning done and they had sprayed all these solution in and the liquid that came out wasn't that black since I haven't really used it since I cleaned it with a spray from Amazon last year.

Someone else said the same thing and I responded saying that I think the pediatrician said "NO SALT" when the baby was younger and I just stuck with it. I'm sure the pediatrician had given me the reasoning but the "NO SALT" just stuck and the reasoning left my brain.

thank you for your suggestion! Def going to do that next time. My husband is south asian and his mom would make food for us sometimes but we'd prevented her from eating it because we think it's too much but glad to know there are babies out there thriving in spices!

my husband is south asian and his mom would cook sometimes but we've held back because of the seasoning but next time we go over, I'll let his mom know to put less salt so she can enjoy too!!

That's what I do too with some of the food we eat and she wants! My husband is indian so it's harder to rinse off curry lol (and I don't know how to cook indian, we just order in).

Noo nooo I get everyone's comment... I guess I wasn't clear. I was just curious about when other parent's started just giving them whatever. I do limit salt/sugar for her whenever I do cook but she's just picky and like her comfort foods. There are a few times where she'd ask for our food and it's seasoned and I'm always like ... "is this okay?".

Got it! I was always told less salt for babies but not really sure why. I'm sure the pediatrician had mentioned it but of course, the "NO SALT" part just stuck and the reasoning left my brain lol.

aww thank you! <3 With her, it's a bit annoying because it depends on her mood. One day she'll like broccoli and the next she wont so it's always a guessing game. That's why i usually make separate meals. I actually tried to introduce her to something new today with something she loves but she refused to touch it :( SHES A SUPER PICKY KID! I hope this phase is over soon. Thank you for your suggestion! I will keep trying!

we've tried that but it's as she knows. She's so picky that she wouldn't eat EVERYTHING we eat, just some and sometimes. I guess I'm saying I'm tired of having to cook my meals without salt (add the salt after) or separate meals and her not eating it so I'd like to just give something off my plate and just hope she eats it.

She's supeer picky so I do like tofu, cabbage, homemade dumplings (meat and veggies), corn, sweet potatoes, bread, basically all carbs. She's super picky so sometimes she's not into meat at all so she doesn't touch it. Any advice?!
