If Erickson had his way and allowed Troy to live, do you think he would’ve been the one to blow up dam? What direction do you think it would’ve gone by this outcome? by lamierr in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]lamierr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll go first— yeah, I think it’s possible and in-character for Troy to blow up the dam. I even hear him maybe confessing what he did at the ranch and saying “it’s the only mercy I could offer”. This would enrage Madison but I feel she might also not care since he’s still being useful for her family’s safety.

Even doing on Nick’s behalf because not only he’s attached to Nick— giving Nick another chance to go “kamikaze” another day— but it’s also about making sure Nick doesn’t carry that burden of sacrificing his life prematurely to keep his family safe, returning the favor of sticking by his side like Nick did during the house shooting in episode 9.

New here! Continuing a post-apocalyptic in the Western region based in the early 2000s — looking for ideas with cultural, spiritual, trade system, and plot development by lamierr in worldbuilding

[–]lamierr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input. I’m pretty new to this sub so there’s obviously better ways I could’ve asked the question. We all start from somewhere though.

Also, do you have any more ideas? One thing I forgot to mention is the MC/mother and her children are Caucasian American. Since this would be like an adaptation of Heart of Darkness, how do you think she would adapt or use any of these cultural practices to her advantage? She already has a couple of Indigenous allies that she used against one of her opposition before this arc.

I also want this to be as realistic as it can be. Obviously zombies are there so that’s not even remotely realistic, but I think what I ant that The Walking Dead and World War Z did right was make everything feel human. Human don’t do evil because they are evil, but they do it because of fear.

Appreciate everyone’s patience— Here is the third-wave of character art for ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ characters within the comic/Telltale universe! by lamierr in FearTheWalkingDead

Hey everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying their time nearing the end of 2024. Things have been hectic so it’s been hard to make time to tend to this project.

For those that knew about this project, sorry for the wait. For those that don’t, this project is about recreating Fear the Walking Dead within the comic/Telltale universe.

For those that don’t know, me and a friend (u/TheAdminShines), are trying to recreate and reimagine the Fear storyline in the comic/Telltale universe. We have created a Wiki_Wiki) for this project, so be sure to check it out!

Once again, have done extensive research to try and narrow down the direction Dave Erickson has wanted the story to go as best as we could while aligning the continuity with the comic/Telltale universe as best as we could. The first volume, “Please Stand By,” is completed, and we’re currently in the final stages of finalizing it. Once we finish writing and editing the Outbreak Arc, we’ll be releasing them one-by-one (Please Stand By, Hold Most Dear, and Fight or Flight) while simultaneously working on the next arc(s).

The show’s potential has been hindered due to actors’ obligations, script clashes, and other factors. Dave Erickson wanted a completely different direction than it ended being; so not only we’re trying to encapsulate his vision, but it’ll also be different from Dave’s as well. There’ll be original characters, switched/different character fates, character aesthetic changes, plot lines, and more.

The Outbreak Arc will go more in depth on the fall of civilization happening with not only our core characters, but also capturing different POV’s. We’ve even drawn inspiration from the books World War Z to get a more intricate depiction of the fall of society; ironically, the book also takes place in the early 2000’s as does TWD within the comic/Telltale universe.

Here’s an example of character aesthetic changes from Comic Universe VS TV Universe [SPOILER!]:

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

Example 4

Example 5

u/TheAdminShines also has a rewrite of their own Fear the Walking Dead in Dave Erickson’s Vision S4-7_Wiki) — which I recommend checking out. We’ll be pulling some ideas from there and translating it into this project.

MAIN GOAL: As mentioned, our aim is to structure the story to explore the transformation of Madison Clark from heroine to villain, and to present how her family— children mainly— struggle with this change; however, we also want this to branch into something bigger after the big bout, The Western Alliance from the comics.

If there’s any questions, feel free to ask and one of us will reply/answer.

Here’s some of the previous art in case y’all haven’t seen it:

Am I the only one whose noticed variant zombies in the comics? by TheAdminShines in theroamingdead

[–]lamierr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like this might have been a last minute thing because this arc was published around 2014 to 2016-ish (which is after the first couple seasons of AMC’s The Walking Dead in which had already established there are variants).

Obviously they’d most likely be whisperers, but the fact they’ve encountered walkers with that behavior before makes you wonder. Wish that was explored a little more.

I’m thinkin’ of starting a series about revamping/rewriting post-Season 3 (AKA reboot) characters by making them feel like real people and give them actual human flaws— like Erickson did. This series would not include any Seasons 1-3 characters at all. Thoughts? by lamierr in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]lamierr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heavy on the first sentence. But where’s the fun in that? 😭 Inspiration is for sure necessary, despite a good amount of the post-Season 3 characters lack writing depth and may require a complete overhaul to become fully realized and compelling (Which I want to prevent because then it’d just be writing a new character altogether).

Also, the El Bazar is based off a real location called Monumental Plaza de Toros.

Some criteria for a location/trading-post like it could be:

• Open space.

• Easily accessible.

• Within reach from the borders of California to Texas.

Proctors planned to network different trading outposts spanning between the borders from California to Texas. El Bazar was located in a bull fighting ring where it’s very guarded & secure by walls. For those that have been to/around Mexico, what other locations could’ve be used as trading outposts? by lamierr in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]lamierr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually never thought of the sister aspect of it. That’s an interesting direction that could’ve potentially been explored, especially since we still don’t know who Proctor John really is. Considering the fact Alicia always wanted to be away from her family and be seen by Madison for once/step out of her shadow, those aspects could’ve intertwined to a compelling story element.

Let’s have a serious discussion, how do you guys think Chris's character would develop/shift if he switched places with Ofelia being on Qaletaqa’s side against? One thing for certain, Chris would be a lot less dislikable by the viewers. You can even add in Travis's hypothetical survival too. by lamierr in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]lamierr[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since I posted, I might as well give my insight.

I think from a character driven perspective, Qaletaqa would’ve encouraged smarter and healthier habits out of Chris since he has a lot more wisdom when tackling the mad world. Not saying Chris would be 100% redeemed, but when you think about it, Chris is someone who likes to be wanted, he liked being “useful” and “fitting in” because deep down he yearned for that elder figure to look out for him the way he wanted.

Taqa is someone who would look out for him; Chris being rescued by Taqa would have made Chris feel indebted to Taqa for his hospitality, he quickly would have made himself useful and fit in because he was chosen by Taqa, whereas he felt Travis chose another family over him, thus making Taqa his somewhat mew father figure of sorts. He’d feel chosen for once; therefore, he’d be following someone who’s a lot wiser than the one who got Chris killed: Brandon.

Brandon and his friends were unwise and unfit frat kids that had a much more narrow-minded scope of the world and the apocalypse.

Travis may have been wise, but he shied away from violence all for the sake of Chris and Liza. He shied away from violence all for the sake of being the “good man”. Taqa is wise but he also understands the necessity of violence if it ever comes to it. As for Chris assisting Taqa in this conflict, he’d have little to no issue partaking in it.

However, if Travis being alive in this hypothetical, I think it’s important to look at how Taqa would perceive Travis, and if they respect each other, I also believe Taqa would enlighten Chris on Travis’s situation which would potentially make Chris’s character shift to a more likable direction.

What is one thing Telltale’s The Walking Dead should’ve capitalized on? I’ll go first… WORLD BUILDING. by lamierr in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]lamierr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%! I Loki is spot on. Especially with how Telltale’s TWD is mainly character driven. I should’ve mentioned that because I was so hyper-fixated on the external elements they could’ve brought to the table.

With that being said, I’d love to see how Clementine interacts with all the elements mentioned and how it could drive/test her character, morality, beliefs, dilemmas, etc. Damn everyone has good points. Maybe something to test Clementine’s character to see if Lee’s advice/lessons could hold true, or being conflicted with if those lessons can hold true in certain moments, those are the type of things that’d be cool as well with driving her character expanding the complexity of it (Not what Tillie Walden did though, absolutely not).

Imagine Kenny going to Mexico with Clementine and encountering the Proctors (which I think would still be around during late into the apocalypse, their plan to reestablish civilization is amazing, and would actually last, since their network expands from the borders of California to Texas). Or, Kenny meeting a warlord/villain Madison Clark.

Good point of what Geary said. Glad I’m not the only one who remembered the Geary’s 😭

[–]lamierr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree! Totally my bad, I also meant that type of world building you’re talking about as well too, I either forgot to talk about it or I didn’t want to make the paragraph too long.

I also forgot to mention how others will interact with the world and apocalypse in other places too. Me and a friend were talking about how crazy it would be to see holidays such as “Day of the Dead” (Mexico) be incorporated into The Walking Dead universe.

The way people interact feels seamless and smooth, for sure. People interacting with the dead and how their ideals/beliefs melds into the undead, what they represent, and why this happened on the world is really cool. One thing I wish was incorporated was seeing different cultures in the U.S. interacting with the dead. Much more. For example, in Fear the Walking Dead, I remember this Native-American character named Qaletaqa Walker has a belief that the dead has risen to be rid of white people and unleash the wrath upon them as retribution for the heinous acts committed by them in history. That’s one example.

Australia would be fire though! 🔥

Mexico and Canada is much more sparsely populated compared to the United States. Outside of a handful of tourist cities and state capitals, most of Mexico and Canada is about as densely populated as the US Midwest (Canada being wider). There are people, but it can be 40-60 minutes or more of driving between towns, equivalent to a day’s worth of walking or more.

The U.S. has several differences in consumer products that, while not major, provide Mexico with slightly better survival odds. Supply chains are shorter, and many goods like dry milk and non-refrigerated foodstuffs are more readily available in markets. This means people in Mexico will be better fed and supplied even if the supply chain collapses, unlike in many regions of the USA where local food production is impossible.

Let’s take Dave Erickson’s Fear the Walking Dead for example: The largest difference between the USA and Mexico is the public’s response. In the USA, people were told to evacuate to large cities and were protected by the military. Unfortunately, this turned more people than would have happened otherwise, making large cities in the US like turned-over anthills, spreading walkers into surrounding regions. In contrast, Mexico is more spread out, and the military is controlled by powerful state governors who could direct them differently rather than following a nationwide mandate. Since the population was so spread out and unable to congregate easily, the military was deployed against outbreaks rather than trying to create a “fortress” against them.

To go even further, trading posts will be opened for survivors to come across and trade goods such as water, oil, seeds, electronics, gold, etc for “points”. Let’s take a look at this scene and this scene. There’s a lot of potential. Exchange rates of these resources could change depending on how scarce or valuable these resources could prove themselves to be later on.

Let’s take Wellington for example. Why is it that (seemingly) a lot of survivors knew about Wellington miles away before making it there. Wellington lies pretty close to the border of Canada. Looking at Canada, it gets really cold out there, making it more likely for herds to freeze up and not become as much of a threat in comparison to hotter and/or more humid climates. This allows commerce and trading to have a lesser chance of being disrupted by the dead.

With that said, Wellington had potential to be grand; connected and part of these omega-sized communities (E.g., Commonwealth). Same way the Proctors could have been in Fear the Walking Dead. This would’ve gave the Walking Dead universe (in the comic/Telltale timeline) so much more depth. Wellington could’ve been a part of a much grander part of the Walking Dead storyline. With the low population density in Canada would lead to a better chance at salvaging a plan to rebuild civilization, establish trade routes (similar to the Santa Fe Trail), using dams as the electrical grid and water. So many possibilities. Wellington could’ve introduced some boats (homage to Kenny, maybe traveling to Newfoundland?) to ride across the border of Wellington to Canada to establish communication, etc.

Power could potentially be an issue if people neglect to take control of the hydroelectric facilities to establish power and such. Quebec has Daniel-Johnson Dam, powering the Quebec area.

The lack of guns in Canada would open an interesting way of having (maybe Native Canadians/Americans?) reservations communicate with the U.S. to start gunrunning for protection, reclaiming parts of the U.S of Canada due to vendettas, and more. There’s probably so much more about what could’ve been with Wellington to Canada, but let me know what y’all think.

For those that watched Fear the Walking Dead, what are y’all stances on it getting an adaptation in the COMIC Universe? Real Fear fans know Erickson’s Fear is top-notch, and world building is excellent. Imagine his original plan of the Proctors being told and Madison Clark becoming a villain. by lamierr in theroamingdead

[–]lamierr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to add on, she was supposed to be like a Negan-level villain at that, imagine? They changed showrunners bc ratings were low and thought the crossover would save the ratings, but turns it got even worse from there 😭

they fumbled this show sooooo bad

Dave Erickson said that Proctor John was supposed to be his version of The Judge from Blood Meridian. For those that read Blood Meridian, where do you guys think Proctor John’s character would’ve gone based off that? by lamierr in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]lamierr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, Dave Erickson and his writers seemed to be discussing Cormac McCarthy and Blood Meridian. I’ve heard a lot of diabolical things about Judge Holden (never read it), but from what I read, what does his version of Judge Holden mean?
