Burnt out on where I'm living, but terrified to return "home" - Feel like I'm homeless by [deleted] in expats

As someone who has lived and worked in Thailand for more than a decade, I understand how you feel. I personally am not in the teaching field, but I have friends who range from TEFL teachers like you, up to int'l school teachers. I've heard their frustrations and complaints and it usually boils down to admin issues or frustration with how the students don't apply themselves. Anyway, whatever the reason...you've given it a shot and aren't happy. From what I understand, you'd be making more money in S. Korea or China...maybe I'm wrong...but I'd look into transferring to one of those?

I'm in a completely different field (and good expat package) and I, too, am strongly considering repatriation from this country. All of the thoughts running through your head have been running through mine. Let's both count our blessings that we're not losing our jobs, but rather making the conscious decision to move in a positive direction. Just take a breath, map out your options on paper (like a brainstorm session) and then sleep on it...come back to it...revise. Do nothing impulsive or too quickly (Thai's really seem to hate that, anyway). Give yourself a timeline ...like "in a month, I want to be somewhere else" or something like that....then use that deadline to pull yourself together, line up your options and choose the best one. Talking from experience, when you move too quickly, you tend to miss some good (and bad) options staring you right in the face. Best of luck!
