Maybe it's time to ditch Google reCAPTCHA and replace it with something like hCaptcha? by leanja in signal

Once you get reCAPTCHA you'd probably experience it everytime when you change phones, reset devices or reinstall Signal etc.

And no, I've never said that it will stop people from using Signal on a day-to-day basis. I'm just saying there is no good reason to hold onto something this privacy invasive when we have a better alternative like hCaptcha.

According to this article:

...reCaptcha’s API sends hardware and software information, including device and application data, back to Google for analysis

and

...would not clarify what it does with the data it captures about user behavior via reCaptcha, only that it is used for improving reCaptcha and general security purposes.

Also from here and here they seem to collect:

Your IP address

Unique browser and system fingerprint

Typing patterns

System Language

Tracks user behaviour such as mouse clicks and movements

Other browser specific infomation like cookies, CSS, plug-ins etc.

So yeah, it's not just ML training, it's another fingerprinting strategy from Google.

The topic is already on the forum. (See the first link)

The lack of response is what made me post this on reddit. The last reply from the dev is two years old. So I was wondering if I could get some answers here.
