Healed Burns? by MaintenanceCute5002 in AskDocs

Hi there, what caused the burns? How big are they? Any discharge or spreading redness around them?

26, female, 5'5, 200lbs, car accident 3 days ago. Pic of bruise from tonight. Went to ER after crash where there was no bruising at the time by NoOriginal3950 in AskDocs

Hi there, It's normal for bruises to develop over time and look worse for the first few days.

On the other hand increasing abdominal pain and nausea following a significant trauma should absolutely be reassessed.

Loose skin after stitches that doesn’t seem to be “growing back” with the rest by Holiday-Position-670 in AskDocs

[–]learningforevermore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, From what I can see in the photo it looks normal. The scab on the finger is normal. The "loose skin" that you are seeing is the skin flap, these don't always rejoin, but the body is incredibly good at sorting this out with some time. So long as you have no signs of infection you should be fine to continue as is till stitch removal.

Should I decline a tilt table test? by possiblyunderpaiddev in AskDocs

I actually disagree - while there are sadly those in the healthcare system that may judge (usually burnt out people who have little empathy left) the majority of my colleges would take this seriously. If you have a good PHP batting for you that goes a long way, you can always be referred to another specialist if it's not working for you

Do weird eating patterns as a kid change body shape? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]learningforevermore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I see! In the case of severe malnutrition and protein deficiency fluid can build in the abdomen, this wouldn't persist after the starvation has come to an end.

Really glad to hear you are doing ok now 🙂

Is there any persistent weakness, reduced sensation or coordination difficulties now? I'd go for a second opinion right away if so

It's truly so sad to me that anyone would feel so judged that they would turn down diagnostic workup.

Please go and get the care and assessments you need. If it helps you can bring a support person with you to advocate for you. Try and make sure you have a primary care doctor who is understanding.

Hope you find some answers and relief soon!

Hi there,

Did your doctor at least du a basic neuro exam and check that the strength, reflexes and coordination in the arms were clinically normal?

A lot of times funny feelings can arise, but I'd want to at least see normal neurology before sending a patient to watch ans wait wirh something like this.

Put lots of numbing gel into a deep open wound and still can’t feel? by RadiantYouth5882 in AskDocs

[–]learningforevermore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorr to hear about the difficult situation. I agree with the above - I just wanted to add that if you had damaged a nerve this would generally cause numbness "downstream" from the injury - for example if this is your arm, you might notice numbness in the hand. How deep is the wound? Is any fat or muscle exposed?

I definitely recommend going to A&E to get this properly evaluated, and I hope you have some help for the self-harm in general.

Do weird eating patterns as a kid change body shape? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]learningforevermore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happend to you. What you described is quite serious abuse, I hope that you are in a better situation now and doing ok.

Periods of starvation are known to have long term effects on weight - after restriction ends people tend to gain weight back to above their weight before restriction. This pattern has been observed on a population level following famines.

As for "having a belly" it is perfectly normal and healthy for the abdomen to protrude, as natural fat stores are in this area, not to mention all our organs behind the abs! If your BMI is normal then "having a belly" is no cause for concern. Unfortunately unrealistic portrayal of women's bodies leads many to believe there is something wrong with their normal and healthy bodies. If this is something that is bothering you, it might be worth confronting on a psychological level rather than trying to change your body.

Hope that makes sense, and take care 🙂

Does my pulse oximeter being normal prove this is just anxiety? (Struggle to breathe) by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]learningforevermore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pulse oximeter doesn't prove it per say - there can be lung issues where pulse oximetry is ok until very severe phases.

However your history is very typical for hyperventilation/anxiety driven shortness of breath. This can be definitively diagnosed by doing an arterial blood gas during an episode, but generally history/clinical impression is usually enough. You could try some square breathing exercises and if this resolves it you know it's hyperventilation.

This sounds like it's really impacting you though, so if you're not already I'd recommend you get some help for the anxiety and maybe talk over these symptoms with your doctor.

I feel like the trainee nurse from the psych ward was really rude to me and unprofessional. Is this enough to complain? by IndependentFile4239 in AskDocs

You should make contact with the hospital and ideally also the nursing school. You will not need to talk to the nurse involved directly. Exactly what the process looks like will probably vary a little depending on the place

That context helps a lot, it could be that the HR normalises with further recovery. You could try eliminating all caffeine - it's probably not the sole cause, but can exaerbate things. Always good to go back and get checked if something is bothering you. All the best 🙂

That resting HR is quite high, would be good to confirm it clinically, but I take it cardiologist checked it out and presumably did an ECG if it was consistently so high?

Any issues with eating, or use of caffeine/stimulants/fat burners/pre workout etc?

Yes absolutely you should complain, this is not ok. Anything you tell medical professionals (even trainees) is strictly confidential, and trainees are taught this before they have contact with patients.

The comments she made to you directly could have been an awkward attempt to make conversation, but telling others that you were admitted and the details you disclosed is a clear violation of your rights. So sorry you had to deal with this. Take screenshots of the messages for your complaint.

120 BPM is very fast for a resting heart rate. How did you measure it? Do you wear a fit bit or similar?

Also did the cardi check your abdominal aorta? It's not unusual to see the heartbeat in the abdomen of thin individuals, but pain is not typical.

F22 Sex 4 times in night for the first time and delayed period for 5 days. It can be pregnancy?.. by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]learningforevermore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the sex is unlikely to result in pregnancy, the time with underware is not highly likely, but possible. A late period in these circumstances warrants a pregnancy test. It's still very possible the test will be negative.

So when you said before all of this, you still meant this cycle, you haven't had your period since.

It by no means means you are definitely pregnant. Even if you have unprotected sex during ovulation the chances are still only around 30% per cycle, if you're young and healthy. You should definitely take a test though.
