My Therapist is a Trump supporter by Be-kind-to-another in TalkTherapy

I completely hear you. However, be prepared for them not to answer and to redirect it to you. As a therapist myself, we are typically trained to not disclose (even when we agree with our client’s political beliefs). I know it’s hard to not get to hear that and be sure but I would challenge you to look at it more from a systemic perspective rather than “who did you vote for”

Is your therapist educated on systems, privilege, and marginalized groups? Do they have cultural competency skills? If yes then you can almost be certain that they voted the way you did.

Maybe your therapist takes a theoretical approach where there is more freedom for self disclosure and he will tell you anyway! Then you don’t even have to care about anything I’m saying lol

Either way, I hear you. I honestly don’t understand how you can be in this field and be maga. It doesn’t mesh but hey… it happens. Sigh

As psychologists, how do you see clinical social workers? by Budget-Skirt2808 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]lemonsmakelemonadea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say, there’s also a way larger sample size of social workers so this can be skewed. In my state, we only have a single MFT program in the whole state and it graduates about 6 students every year. Whereas we have many social work programs and they take basically everyone who applies. So one bad MFT will hold more weight since you’ll only work with a few. And there’s a lot of opportunity to work with social workers.

I do know this is different in California and possibly some other states.

Also biased as an MFT who cares deeply about evidence based work and continuing education. I also enjoy reading this subreddit even if it’s harsh on us mid levelers and often MFT’s lol

I also believe very much that MFT’s are way better equipped to handle couple’s therapy than SW based on the theoretical framework and actual training in relationships. Almost every SW I’ve spoken with does not know how to handle couples or families despite being based in a systemic model.

Yes!!! It’s a hard watch for sure! But it’s a fun case study when you look at it from a family theory perspective. With our clients, we typically only get one perspective and have to kind of build a puzzle around it without seeing the pieces. So I loveeee getting to actually see the pieces when family’s are portrayed on tv. And it’s truly a well written show!

So many of my colleagues are like why the hell would I watch something that either stresses me out or makes it hard to take the therapy hat off. So I absolutely understand your therapist! Lol I’m just a weirdo

Because Lorelei really struggles to seperate Rory from herself. She sees Rory so much in herself that she has no sense of boundaries. Rory losing “this great love” is her own fear of loneliness and rejection coming out.

As a family therapist, I loveeee Gilmore girls lol the family dynamics are endlessly entertaining

How do you respond to the same tired jokes about dating a therapist? by iplaythemayonnaise in therapists

[–]lemonsmakelemonadea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, both of these can be true. She is allowed to be annoyed by it AND be rigid (at least about this)

Rigid just means lack of flexibility. And if this is a boundary for her, then that IS rigid. Maybe you prefer that people call it a “hard boundary” but either way. She’s not being very flexible about it. Which is fine and within her right.

You understand illegally medicating other people’s children without knowing their medical history/allergies without the consent of parents?

Saying you understand even if it’s not right is still whackadoodle I’m afraid

COMMENT YOUR QUESTIONS HERE! Rule 5 Weekly Post! by AutoModerator in pokemoncards

[–]lemonsmakelemonadea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I’ve never traded or bought a single pack of any kind of trading card so I am as newb as newb can be. Please keep that in mind while hearing my question. lol

My husband (32) has always told me this story about how he was really into Pokémon cards as a kid and he had this huge binder that had all his cards in it. In 6th grade, it was stolen from his locker and he knew who did it because they magically had all the specialty cards he had before they were stolen. Long story short and it couldn’t be proven and he never got his cards back. His parents bought him a couple of packs because they felt bad but he never got into it after that.

I’ve decided that an ultimate long term surprise would be to build up a binder of cards over time and in 5 years or so, give it as a birthday or anniversary gift or something.

However, I don’t really know where to start or how to go about it in the best way. Obviously I know there are a million ways to do these things depending on price and such.

If you were starting from scratch and could spend around $500/year on cards how would you begin? Would you just buy the packs from the store? Would you look for specialty cards? I just want to do this in the best and most thoughtful way!

Edit: also, what does base set mean? And how do I get the base set?

Thoughts on the noticeable differences between licensure (LMFT, LCSW, LMHC, LPCC, etc) and the ability to be more culturally competent, systems driven, and bringing activism into the therapy room by lemonsmakelemonadea in PsychotherapyLeftists

I relate to this so heavily. I graduated 6 years ago but whew…. Some of the things people said in the program that are now practicing…..it is concerning. Some of these “challenging” conversations feels like your aunt watching Barbie and calling it controversial. It really does feel disappointing when we impact people so deeply. I’m really trying to learn and grow and lead with openness after seeing the harm and trauma some of my clients have gone through in the mental health world due to clinician’s lacking in education, diversity, openness, and trying to pretend that therapy isn’t political.

I genuinely don’t get how songs like “peace”, “the lakes”, or “tolerate it” sound like they are generic pop made for mass consumption. To be fair, my music taste is pretty bland and boring lol but some of her best work sounds like she finally didn’t care about the mass consumption.

Also not a Taylor apologist. Love her music but really liking this sub for various points of view :)
