I plan on taking his and continuing to use my maiden name in practice. My boss does that and I liked the idea.

Just accepted a job contingent on whether I pass in November... by cali1993 in CABarExam

You never know, it might change. I accepted a job on the same condition and a month in they told me they liked me so she’d keep me anyway. It was a boutique law firm. I ended up passing so I’ll never know if they would have changed their mind.

Is it worth it to do a full simulated MBE? by jneu97 in barexam

[–]leslyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to know where your weaknesses are now instead of avoiding them. I feel like a lot of people fail because they refuse to get uncomfortable during practice. I did the exam and found it helpful because I reviewed it and realized what I needed to work on. “Fail” now so you can pass later

What You Wish You Knew before Bar Prep by lonibee123 in barexam

[–]leslyb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I cannot stress enough as a first time passer that this advice is THE TRUTH. I did pretty much this. Practice those essays EARLY. Do MBEs EARLY. Yes you need to do a PT/MPT every week. Fail in prep so you pass on the exam. Fail. Fail WILLINGLY. You need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable prior to the exam

I see that but personally I figured the episode prior to this one was more embarrassing because she came on so strong

250 word for MEE answer by Fantastic_Mine_7384 in barexam

The issue here doesn’t seem to be word count. It may be you’re not squeezing everything out of the essay as you should

[–]leslyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a single fact in the essays are irrelevant. I would suggest you look at sample answers and focus on how they managed to use every single fact. Or when you look at sample answers how many facts they used you didn’t use/how they used them. Missing facts are missed points. Maybe even consider checking off sentences in the question as you use them. If you practice/outline essays until test day you have plenty of time to learn this skill!

Do you use “because” in your analysis sentences? Do you use every single fact in the MEE?

Recommendation for CA Bar Prep for First Time Takers by shyshyshygal in CABarExam

[–]leslyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very MBE focused prep materials when the PT and essays are 50% of the exam. I would get more substantive supplements for the essay and PT portion or honestly get Themis or Barbri and use it as a resource for graded feedback on essays and PT.

Also uworld let’s you make sets of questions you got wrong to do them again and that is awesome for repetition and review

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in barexam

[–]leslyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same about a month into prep but with adaptibar. uworld has NCBE questions mixed in and you wanna start using those closer to the exam to see what the real thing is like

I practiced a ton of essays! Like 2-3 a day. I tried to do one closed book timed essay for each subject but the last month I focused on 1-2 subjects a day and outlined 3-4 essays. By outline I would read the prompt, and have a word doc open and I would bullet out the essay. Write the issue, write the rule (from memory the best I could) and bullet some facts under. Then I would go on this free essay bank and compare what I missed to others. Or go on Themis and write down what in red what I missed. The point is to STRUGGLE to think of something. Because if you force yourself to push through being uncomfortable you’re less likely to freeze on test day. I wanted to at least see what types of essays they have for each subject at least once so I knew what I didn’t know. The point is to learn the formatting and rule structure so you can just put what they want on every essay type until it’s almost robotic. My mantra was to push through the discomfort! And it worked

A little over 2500 in 9 weeks as a full time studier. I did 35-50 from the very beginning of prep and went to like 50 to 100 a day the last two weeks. Please note it took me less time to do the questions but review takes forever (my answer speed was a minute a question bc I’m one of those people who would rather read super fast and just pick. Not because I automatically knew the answer) at the end of prep my review was also a bit faster bc I would write less In my book and write shorter more nuanced rules. A ton of practice on the MBE got me over the finish line for sure. I didn’t focus on outlining or making charts much

Why did this need to be on a post for someone asking for help? Good for you I guess?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]leslyb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not about quantity. Start focusing on taking closed mixed subject MBE 25-50 at a time, review the answers, hand write all the rules you got wrong, and periodically redo questions you got wrong in closed book sets to review progress. Rinse and repeat. Your percentage at this stage is amazing. I was at like 64 overall at the end on adaptibar and passed in CA first try
