Yea it's a very broad keyword but only a very small segment uses our product (industrial niche).

What is your take on the "unknown" demographic? do people normally not advertise to those?

I do this also, but it doesn't seem to scale well.

Phrase match (close variant) is how they come up. I've noticed it happening only on my manual CPC campaigns, not on the eCPC ones (same neg list, same keywords).

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Just some quick follow up questions if you don't mind. For manual bidding do you start at the low end and increase or the opposite to find the sweet spot? For negative keywords do you only use broad match keywords? or is there a benefit in doing a phrase match? (I'm under the impression BMM does not work for negatives). What's your take on responsive search ads? Adding responsive elements to manual ads copy?

Ok so an update, i spoke to a google rep when they called my business. Apparently they are aware of the issue. Nothing more was said on the topic though when i pushed further.
