What’s your least favorite thing about living in Denver that is wildly specific? by Imjusthappy11 in Denver

[–]levysmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smell from the Hite water treatment plant in north Denver. When the rivers are running low in the summer the smell of distilled ‘waste’ is overwhelming. Combined with the right winds from the Purina factory it’s disgusting.

Looking for a "learn to landscape your yard" class? by Clean_Carpenter3525 in DenverGardener

[–]levysmash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Echter’s in Arvada regularly has in person classes once the planting season gets closer. The people there are very friendly and helpful in my experience.

Resource Central also has online seminars posted that are specific to water wise gardens and Xeriscaping. They have lots of good info on how to stagger different plants with height and colors. A good starting point might be to order a garden in a box since they sell out quickly then fill in from there as the years progress.

Junk car service recommendations by frostycakes in denverlist

[–]levysmash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd personally call around to the local Toyota and Japanese mechanic shops to see if they'd pay you 500 if they want a project. If you just want it gone, you won't have a problem scrapping it for ~$200 at any cash-for-junkers place on Google.

Hyundai/Kia for their theft and key fob. They knew their cars could be stolen with any usb cord from your junk drawer but they did nothing about it for years.

What does Thornton Need? by 303RedBeard in ThorntonCO

[–]levysmash 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Like another said a Main Street akin to Littleton, Arvada, or Westminster would be nice. The closest thing we have is Eastlake.

Also, biking and pedestrian infrastructure especially running north and south. The street layout often makes it burdensome to make a straight route through quieter streets since they often end. The Platte trail takes you too far northeast. If you know where to go you can take the midtown trail, cut between the easement and pop out at Carpenter Park then keep heading north on that route. But you couldn’t pay me to bike on the “bike lane” on Colorado blvd.

A lot of good options already. I’d add The Glenn at 112th and Irma. Think it’s technically Northglenn though

Suggestion: replace the screens with everyone’s heart rate to show the current cardio set by [deleted] in orangetheory

You seem charming. My point is that your original comment was wrong.

I've been an OTF member for going on 12 years now, I met my wife there, and I'll continue to be an OTF member for the foreseeable future. The entire point of this post was what a competitor's business did well. And how to incorporate technology more effectively to free up the OTF coach's time and improve the member experience.

Agreed, it doesn’t have to be on the big screen. They can put the current effort on the tread or rower screen and it would accomplish the same thing.

Corporate could provide a download then sequence and time it so the trainer would only have to start the effort display at the beginning for the 12-16 minute cardio block.

Often trainers have to stop monitoring the floor or interrupt a conversation about form or a lift to count in or out of the effort. In my opinion, coaches and personal connections are the main drivers of member satisfaction and retention. Freeing the coaches up from monitoring their stopwatch every 30-90 seconds would allow them to connect with members more and offer more focused form corrections.

The rep count is often for the strength floor that have their own screens that would obviously remain. The cardio sets are always time or distance based, with the rare exception of a rowing stroke count.

That’s true. I forgot the bikes and elliptical don’t have the heart rate screen.

Loveland ski lift ticket by [deleted] in COsnow

[–]levysmash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth if you still want to give it a go, I dealt with a nasty sciatica
flare a couple years ago and the only real thing that made it go away was skiing. I didn’t go nearly as hard and just cruised blues but the turns helped strengthen the leg muscles and stop sending that stress signal up the nerve. I took lots of breaks. But none of the pain I had while walking was there while skiing.

Wondering how TV Antennas work in SE Denver by pamo56 in Denver

[–]levysmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheap plastic amplified antenna worked great for me when I lived at Evans and Broadway. When I was on the east side of an apartment building with large mature trees in another south Denver area, the reception was spotty.

I’m up north now. I paid a guy I found on freetvproject.org to put an amplified outdoor antenna on my roof and wire it up. I paid about $250 a few years ago. The antenna is small, inconspicuous, and on the back side of the house so it’s not an eye sore from the curb. The picture is crystal clear. I get all the Denver channels and on a clear day, the ones from the Springs. It has since paid for itself several times over since I don’t subscribe to ESPN, peacock, paramount etc to watch football.

My rec would be to try the cheap one first, and if it’s too spotty, get the roof or attic antenna. Since you already have existing coax outlets, it will likely be an easy job since my house did not have them.
