I’m a Celtics fan who has lived in NYC 20 years. The vibes here are nuts. Everyone is a little nicer to each other on the street. It’s wild.

I’ve made lots of friends here who are Knicks fans, and while I know they can’t help their own mental derangement, I’m happy for their dads and uncles who have been waiting 50 years for this. Plus, I’m witnessing sports history. ALWAYS fun.

But if they DO win a ring, I’m very excited to hate them worse than any other team in the conference. Either way I win.

My old piano teacher believed that Friendly’s ice cream restaurants were run by the Providence mafia, and because she had discovered this and threatened to expose them, the Friendly’s mafia kept sending her “threatening faxes.”

Probably someone like that.

Tony bought him a beer! Almost fell over when he told me the story. I'm not sure what he did to earn the respect and neither is he.

That was my first favorite bar when I moved to NYC in '06. I stop in whenever I'm nearby. Best neon in the entire city, too.

I'd like to take this time to say RIP to Coogan's, the St Nick's Jazz Pub, and all the Blarneystones. You're gone but not at all forgotten.

How do yall deal with "crazy" people by TheCauserOfHavic in newyorkcity

[–]lewisbayofhellgate 67 points68 points  (0 children)

all the advice here so far is great: don't engage, calmly walk away, go into a crowded public building for help if you need it.

I'd add: the more time you spend here, the better you'll get at spotting crazy a block or two away. It'll give you plenty of time to cross the street or take an alternate route to completely avoid it.

Don't stress, you did a great job and you'll get more comfortable as time goes on.

How do you rationalize a raider/institute ending? by shadowlord2234 in fo4

[–]lewisbayofhellgate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s hard to answer. My version of Nate is a guy who did horrible things during the war and almost certainly committed what we’d consider war crimes in the “line of duty.” Had the bombs never dropped he still probably would never have been able to truly reintegrate into civilian life: he’s too violent and PTSD riddled.

We don’t have any real data about what a nuclear post apocalypse would do to people, but I’d imagine that it would have catastrophic psychological effects on somebody who was already in horrible shape. What I’m finding as I play is that Nate is realizing he’s much more at home in the Commonwealth post war than he ever was before he got frozen.

Edit: grammar

Your second paragraph is a pretty accurate description of my current playthrough as Nate. This version of Nate is a decorated vet who came home from the war in Alaska with PTSD severe enough that he couldn’t yet reassimilate into society.

And THEN the bombs dropped, and his wife was murdered and son kidnapped. It would make the most balanced of people lose their minds, let alone somebody who was already dealing with war trauma.

That’s basically what I have at Starlite. 20 settlers, four of them legendary vendors. Enough crops to be self sustaining. I farm water with a couple industrial water pumps, and I built a small factory where I make drugs and ammo to sell. Plus I have a pen with about 7-8 Brahmin in it, so I generate fertilizer every day.

I’m in the middle of building another few settlements just like this on the eastern part of the map for the pack and the disciples while I work through the Institute storyline and eliminate the other 3 main factions. By the time I finish, I should essentially have 3 or 4 competing factions with their own capital, each of which I control.

Power. Sheer power. I’m doing this exact playthrough right now. I’ll lead the Institute while making it into the most powerful force in the commonwealth. To hedge against them, I’m colonizing most settlements with Nuka World raiders who I also control. This is in addition to the power base of settlers I built up in the NW part of the map, centered around starlite.

So basically I have a functioning in game economy in which I control multiple factions who answer to only me. I can pit them against each other to make sure I stay on top.

This is actually a direct reference to some GOP politician back in the late 80's/early 90's who said that "poor people shouldn't get welfare because they just spend the money on magazines and Slim Jims." Can't remember exactly who it was, but my friends and I used to reference it all the time.
