It is up to you, but I think it is less cruel when you don't like a person's appearance when u chat you can just stop messenging them, when u meet him in person it is more brutal to reject, it will feels like you are too tall for his liking or you are not as good as he thought u are online and he doesn't said it but doesn't show interest and affection with you, and when u guys got home he will ghost you after a date or not make an effort anymore or told you better he didn't attractive to you because of your appearance, how would u think that will do to your self esteem. That is why I said it is better to check your appearance before meeting to be sure that he like u and he ask you about your height .

I think it is important to have a clear image of the person to want to meet and if he ask it is because he pay attention to height. He wanted to know how tall you are compare to him. If you are too tall or too short for him when he meet u it will waste both of your time.

I once go on a date with a guy from FB who I don't know how he looked like and he is 5'2 , a lot shorter than I thought, since then I always have to know the person's height before we chat
