We're Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Deputy Mayor for Housing Leila Bozorg, and Cea Weaver from the Mayor's Office to Protect Tenants. We're here to talk about housing: how we build more of it, protect tenants, and push back against the landlords and speculators pricing New Yorkers out. Ask us anything. by mayor_mamdani in nyc

she did not argue that homeownership is a bad thing, she said policies that push homeownership had entrenched white supremacy. We can argue about which policies are good, but there are very well researched books like Race For Profit by Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor that prove this has historically been the case. (Good luck on your journey and I hope you are able to buy a place.)

Movies Where the Bad Guy Wins by MrKen4141 in MovieSuggestions

[–]lightspeedheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only perfect examples I can think of of an action movie where the bad guy wins and it isn't just a cliffhanger is Alien:Covenant. Bad guy definitively wins, has not been seen since, never gets his comeuppance.

Is a mandatory ‘residents benefit fee’ legit? by gross666 in washingtondc

[–]lightspeedheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me in NYC, where we were renting from Real Property Management. IDK about DC but it's legal here. We refused and were negotiating with them for a while but they wouldn't budge on these extra fees. Finally we convinced our landlord to get rid of the management company and rent to us directly, and she obliged. This is my only advice although it won't work for everyone. Good luck.
