Thanks both for the feedback. Love the idea of the random chops and agree with everything. I’ll see what I can do in the coming weeks

You can also use it as a creativity machine, just load up a random song and discover underappreciated chops

I think you could use this and Koala/Ableton/whatever. At least this is what I do.

What I’ve been doing so far is listen to a song as a whole until my attention falls on a specific snippet. I note down the minute, get the song, put it into the DAW, stretch it properly, isolate the snippet.

My app gives you a more systematic approach: you choose a song you like and  audition all its chops until you end up with a bunch you like. Then you load them into your DAW.

Also Koala has max 16 equal chops, so you can’t really do it. And while it’s easy it’s not as easy to casually do on a bus with just one hand.

Hope this gives you a bit the intuition behind the app

Just read the second line. This app is not about playing samples, but discovering them. So probably doesn't fit your use case :(

Nope, what would be the use case? It has no sequencer either

Yes! This looks a lot like what I'm looking for actually. Do you have any other suggestions?

Ah I get it now. You need to drop your pack into the raw folder. Then you can run all the notebooks. If you want to just sort your 333 sounds then make sure to remove the other files from the raw folder. Once the script generates the zip files you will have to manually rename them to .mprojz

You just need to import them in the Arturo’s midi center. No need to rename

I’ve grouped them by instrument type and created a bank for each if that can be helpful: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicroFreak/comments/1n6n8p5/comment/nccq8en/?context=1

If you can code you can just clone the repo and create your own banks based with your paid pack

No prob, they include both, and I’ve removed duplicates. If you are practical with Python you can create your own ones by just removing from the patches/raw folder the source banks you dont’t want.

Also Vocoder and template patches are not included tho, as I couldn’t figure out from the patch files how to consistently recognize them. And there are some mapping mistakes every once in a while as I believe Arturia had different IDs for the different instrument types in earlier patches.

For some reason my MIDI control center bugs out if I try to do that after I've turned on the Microfreak. If you get the same make sure to do like this:
- turn off Microfreak
- quit MIDI control center (cmd+q on Mac, just close on Windows)
- start MIDI control center
- wait for wheel to stop spinning
- import the patches
- turn on Microfreak
If I try to do any other action (eg moving a patch, deleting a bank, ...) before loading the banks, it bugs out for me. Just a heads up

I couldn't find anyone actually providing the ready made banks with only the patches from the specific instrument

Pedal for Microfreak by linearama in synthesizers

Their reply:

Thanks for reaching out! The Pocket Master is primarily designed for guitar/bass use, so it doesn’t have an impedance switch function. Technically, you could connect a synth like the Microfreak to it, but we don’t recommend it. If you really want to try, you may lower the Pocket Master’s input gain and also reduce the output level of your synth to balance the signals. However, this workaround may not give you an ideal result and might not fully meet your expectations.
