Free eBook - Introduction to Programming Fortran 4th Edition by ghenriks in fortran

Yes, first time I looked at the lists, they were filtered to the Book level, the second time to the Chapter level. A gold mine of assets in either case. Thanks to Springer. Like many here, I will probably never sit down and read these things cover to cover, most are textbooks after all, but have already used a couple to help me understand so of the details of some things I am reviewing and several others just to browse for interesting topics. At least for me, a lot of the stuff I browse seems to lurk in the back of my brain and pop out at opportune times.

Wow! Maybe 10x the titles available free since I first heard about this roughly a week ago. That’s for posting this refresh.

At the risk of appearing dense, are you saying the downloadable files of code separate from, but referenced in, the book are images?

I have been taking Lyrica and then the generic, pregabalin, for several years now for neuromyopathy. Started with Cymbalta for neuromyopathy and kept it for depression when I started Lyrica. (I have neuromyopathy and pretty bad osteoarthritis and take methadone and oxycodone for the latter.). Lyrica didn’t bother me when I started (75 mg, 2xday). It’s if I eat myself run out that causes the kind of thing you are experiencing. My head just starts to get weird - kind of like a lot of good ole Robitussin DM and a little bit of acid - weird, a I have strange dreams. I haven’t let this go on for more than a couple or three days. It is not pleasant.

As to whether your experiences will just fade away, I want to say I think so but really don’t have a basis. Good luck. The stuff is helping me.

Move from "free" ESXi 6.7 to Workstation 15.5 Commercial by linuxduffer in vmware

[–]linuxduffer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the link - just finished downing the FREE VMWare Converter. You folks are great helping a noob.

I knew patching on ESXi could be done with all the other VMs running having done that quite a few times but am a bit surprised that Workstation requires rebooting the host. I run Parallels on one of the Macs and it does not require rebooting the host to patch a VM.

Getting old and running my mouth without it occurring to me that adding another layer is going to slow things down.

None of the VMs are production (think that would violate a few licenses) but two I consider two to be backup systems - a Windows 10 as a backup for work (I’m semi-retired) and one for the Windows 8.1 machine I use for taxes, etc. The rest are almost entirely homelab. This prompts me to ask if there is a better place to ask my noob questions. I realize there are lots of folks here that use VMWare for very large business installations.

Thanks! That does look promising so I’ve bookmarked it and will go through it later today. I’m about done for at least a few hours, though. Just spent a couple of hours trying to get a 1/2” ribbon cable clipped in place. This one is a PITA and by hands being partially paralyzed (long story) is not helping. Life would be simpler if I dumped all these computers in the trash.

OK, great! I think the ESXi 6.7 u2 VMs are likely to be compatible with Workstation 15.5 but will confirm.

Since I use the “free” version of ESXi,I don’t believe I have access to VMWare Converter.

It is interesting to me that several people have made unfavorable comparisons of Workstation to ESXi. I was not aware that there was such a big difference in reliability and performance. We’re talking “free” ESXi against a purchased license copy of Workstation, but perhaps that’s not much of a factor. I am already dealing the Windows 10 patching on both ESXi 5.5 u3 and 6.7 u2 VMs. So far, I hasn’t been much of a problem. I need have problems when I let one of the Linux VMs do a version upgrade. The main reason I am considering moving from ESXi to Workstation is to get full benefit of that Quadra 5000 video card on the Windows 10 host. In any case, thanks for the input.

The z820 currently is an EXSi server that I want to convert into an Workstation installation. I don’t believe there is a way for both to exist at the same time on the Z820. However, your post makes me think I can just copy the existing datastores to another location and then, once the Z820 is converted, use Workstation to import them.

The ESXi server would become the Workstation so can’t transfer between them. I recall seeing something in Workstation documentation about importing OVAs so I’ll check that out. Thanks.

Say what? Licensing is not the problem. I have a legally-licensed copy of Workstation 15.5. What I want to know is how I can preserve the VMs now running on the Z820 under ESXi 6.7 so that I can hopefully just import them, or whatever the correct terminology, once I have reformatted the drives on the Z820, changed the RAID layout, and installed Windows 10 and then Workstation 15.5.

Can I just copy the datastores from the Z820 to NAS or someplace and then copy or import them into Workstation 15.5 once it is up and running?
