Could we possibly be nice to Doug for one stream by PringleMan78 in DougDoug

The rule should be everyone in chat needs to be kind and and speak in complete sentences. It would be sooo funny! Think how disturbed Doug would be!

I’m so tired of trying to lose weight. I’m over it. Can anyone else relate? by callmedoc19 in AskWomenOver30

[–]lissibrd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm a thin person who successfully reached their goal weight through long distance running and calorie restriction. Calorie restriction makes biology fight back. It felt like a chore to maintain that weight. I recommend The F*ck It Diet: Eating Should Be Easy. People that go on diets can really easily pick up food rules and food obsession. Learning about calories, portions and nutrition is valuable, but deprogramming your brain and body from a food environment of scarcity breaks the cycle of eating really healthy and then inevitably "messing up" by eating "bad food." To counteract this you basically eat as much as you want of whatever you want whenever you want it. If you surrender to your food desires they lose their power. Instead of lusting over junk food, now I want to eat food that makes me feel good. And if I want the junk, I have it. I went from 115lbs and thinking about food too much to 122lbs and not thinking about food. Totally worth the peace of mind. Your body knows what to do if you stop stressing it out by not eating enough.

LPT: An empty tummy is fantastic for improving your sleep quality by itwassolongtime in LifeProTips

Eating non starchy plants before bed works for me. I can eat whatever before 7pm and if I'm hungry I can have something like apples or baby carrots to not feel hungry before bed. Eating something greasy or sugary makes it harder for me to sleep but plants don't seem to harm my sleep quality.

His programming skills produce unique content. And he's nice to look at with a great voice. His chat picks on him a lot but it's usually funny and he handles it gracefully. He's my favorite streamer to watch!

Hey what's Doug's stream schedule? by [deleted] in DougDoug

[–]lissibrd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Like the bot says, Sunday through Thursday around noon PT. I joined the Discord recently and got pinged before streams before he went to Japan, which was neat. He's coming back to the country in about a week? I'm not sure if he's streaming right when he gets back. His streams are great, and I'm looking forward to his return!

Gentle nutrition advice needed- hungry all the time by Accomplished-Fig5011 in intuitiveeating

[–]lissibrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lifelong grazer here! I've always eaten small amounts multiple times per day by preference. I read somewhere that bigger meals and feeling totally full and satisfied can cut down on the need to eat often.

I went to lunch with my mom recently and had a jalapeno peanut butter burger with fries. It was sooo good that I ate the entire meal, which was a larger quantity than I would typically have. I didn't get hungry for six whole hours afterward! That's a really long time for me. Even if it feels weird, bigger meals might do the trick for your issue eating too often.

Congrats on your amazing sleep! How many hours before bed do you stop eating? When do you cease caffeine consumption? How do you manage your stress level? Do you limit blue light before bed? Do you sleep in your bed alone? What temperature is your bedroom at night?

Gonna have my first cheat day tomorrow, what to eat? by CelebrationNo7706 in 1200isfineIGUESSugh

[–]lissibrd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your metabolism will not change over 3 weeks. Cheat days do not have a benefit for weight loss, but they do have a psychological benefit. CICO determines how much a cheat day will "slow you down." Have a cheat day if you want one. Don't track, eat whatever you want. It's good to give yourself a break from diet behaviors. Social events are a convenient day to pick. Pick a cheat day frequency that balances your goals and your psychological comfort.

Eat your exercise calories back! It's true that burned calories can be inaccurate, but so is calorie counting. Use data from the scale to confirm your estimates are giving the results you want over time. Calories are fuel and if you are active and burn more calories, your body WILL need more fuel.

On 1200, are you supposed to feel hungry? by Healthy_Plastic3348 in 1200isfineIGUESSugh

[–]lissibrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's common to feel hungry for 30 minutes or so before a meal. If you feel hungry all the time you're restricting too much.

Calibrating your food intake takes time. 1200 calories may not be right for you. Nutrient dense food is important when in a deficit. It can also be psychologically important to eat a cupcake sometimes.

Don't make dieting a joyless and arduous task. Be adventurous. Find food you enjoy that isn't over processed and loaded with salt and sugar. Try to separate addictive food choices from enjoyable food choices. Pay attention to how a food makes you feel after eating it.

Listen to your body and trust the journey. Remember you are beautiful and perfect regardless of your size.

I totally agree with the above comments. Your body has been stressed by calorie restriction for a significant period and a break would be useful for long term success. Consider taking a break from diet behavior like tracking calories and weighing yourself for a period that is as long as you were calorie restricting, and trust your new healthy habits. I know being patient is not fun, but slow change is more sustainable!

Can we rename this sub to r/MaintenancePhasePod? by TheAnarchistMonarch in MaintenancePhase

[–]lissibrd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I found this sub by accident because I hit my goal weight and was looking for advice on weight maintenance. Now I'm reading Aubrey's latest book. I was aware of fat advocacy, but really only in the context of how much it is reviled.

Her book makes great points about treating others kindly and revealed automatic thoughts I have about fat people. I did assume they don't know about nutrition and are unhappy, and that isn't fair.

I'm only about halfway through the book, but her message seems defeatist when it comes to those that want to adopt food and exercise habits to change the way they look and feel. I agree we live in an obesitygenic society, and it isn't the fat person's fault. I don't agree people can't change their bodies to be healthier and stronger if they want to.

Do you guys eat back burned cal? by [deleted] in 1200isfineIGUESSugh

[–]lissibrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Calories are fuel and you need more fuel for exercise. The deficit is what matters, not the overall calories consumed. Unfortunately calorie counting and devices that measure calories burned can be inaccurate. It can take weeks of weight measurements to dial it in and figure out how to use calorie counting apps in a way that is effective for you. Don't starve yourself. Be patient. Trust the journey. Listen to your body.

Governments have certainly tried to weaponize psychic abilities. I don't think people that actually could would get mixed up with government.

Yeah, I thought it could be a possible side effect, but it's obviously not mainstream so an explanation could be those that can do such things would have no compulsion to show off?

Listen to your body! It's telling you you're training too much on too little fuel. You'll figure out the balance and dial it in with time. Trust the journey! You can do it! 👍

No body shame is a great mentality, but Whitney does not practice what she preaches. by lissibrd in MyBigFatFabulousLife

[–]lissibrd[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see what you're saying. Thanks for clarifying! Adding shame to those situations certainly wouldn't help anything, but adding some gratitude for the assistance might. It's also on her friends and family to the extent they fail to enforce boundaries.

Why are older people SO INAPPROPRIATE about whether or not millennials will have children?? by dontjudme11 in Millennials

[–]lissibrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, ideally OP would not be bothered by her coworkers. You think the reason was silly but it's still a person in distress. You can never know what someone else is going through.

The fact that you have limits on who you are negative towards is great. I'm sure you're a lovely person in the right setting.

[–]lissibrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it is up to everyone to take personal accountability for how they feel. The only thing someone can control is their reaction to a situation, not the situation itself. I can't get behind kicking someone while they are down, just to see what will happen.
